YESSS okay back when you dropped the UNSC H4 Armory I left a comment about waiting on my favorite weapon in all of Halo and here it is. I’d like to discuss with everyone why the LightRifle is super underrated. People describe it as effectively a reason of the BR/DMR, but it’s more complex than that. Due to the way its damage output works, there’s actually a unique combo to make it more effective. By alternating fire and firing one scoped shot into three unscoped headshots (effectively giving you the number of shots needed for a kill as scoped with the rate of fire of unscoped), you maximize your TTK to be below that even of the BR. With that and its better overall range compared to the more support-oriented DMR, I firmly believe the LR is a more intelligent weapon that people believe. On top of that, I honestly do think it looks and sounds cool. H4 brings back some nostalgia for another FPS game from that time - Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. The LightRifle being made up of a bunch of sleek combined parts feeds into that.

I would also love them to have a more weird and indecipherable aesthetic and function as the Sentinel Beam had, which truly felt like a weird tool of an ancient unknown advanced species that ultimately perfected their technology not only for what we could have thought, but to fight a parasite. I mean, some of them look and function so like "human reskins" that now when 343 Guilty Sparks says "You brought such ineffective weapons to combat the Flood" I'm thinking "not too much different that what you guys used, huh". However I do notice that some of the functionality was kept in mind like the body disintegration which would have prevented the flood from reanimating corpses.

I personally think the Forerunner weapons also needed to more unconventional or downright alien functionality to them. Like how Covenant arsenals differed themselves from their UNSC counterparts by operating entirely on Ionised particles and Plasma technology, the Forerunner firearms should've done the same by being even weirder. So technologically advanced that they seemed magical. It's funny a lot of playable weapons from Mass Effect followed this principle while being incredibly fun. Just a few honest suggestions... 1. Razor-Shot A pistol-like weapon that fired a sharpened shard of Hard Light that pierce through energy shielding and directly assault enemy armor. Carries ten shards in total. (Alternative firing mode): By charging this weapon, the barrel would expand and allow up to 5 shards to be in standby mode. Each shard would track a designated target. 2. Ion Ballista Forerunners' equivalence of a marksmen rifle. Releasing a bolt of exotic supercharged particles that is accelerated to the speed of light, each shot packes enough kinetic force to fragment the bolt upon impact; the shattered bolt would further disperse and strike all nearby targets, causing weaker but arguably potent damage to the marksman's enemies. (Alternative firing mode): The charging mechanism seemed to strengthen the bolt's own "structural" stability, for a lack of better word. A straight beam would be released instead, and would penetrate targets after targets, creating an dark red stream of instant death. 3. Phase Disruption Rifle Applying a brach of science that UNSC and San Shy'umm researchers thought to never exist, this weapon fires a crimson tendrils of... substance that latch onto a selected target at close range. The tendrils would disrupt all atomic bonds of the target in a manner of seconds, resulting in a violent explosion that leaves nothing behind. 4. Singularity Cannon After months of concentrated examination, the only deducible aspect of such weapon is that it fires a sphere of condensed Dark Matter that can be remotely controlled by an unknown means. The "bomb", so to speak, would generate a series of violent regional gravitational vortex in its path. However, when the sphere encounters an object of adequate mass and density, the sphere would instantly dissolve, erupting a omnidirectional wave of devastating gravitational and even radiation pulses that would shredd even our most heavily armored vehicle regardless of structural durability.

Would've been cooler if they looked and felt more distinct from their Human and Covenant counterparts. Take the sentinel beam as an example. It's a forerunner weapon that looks like nothing else in the weapon sandbox, and both humans and elites look awkward wielding them. Still, I don't hate the Promethean weapons, I just feel like they could've looked better. All in the past now I guess, doesn't matter now. I'm hoping they'll add more forerunner weapons to infinite, and make them more in line with the oddly shaped sentinel beam rather than just gun shaped metal chunks with glowing orange bits

Agreed. I was VERRRRY disappointed with the Forerunner weapons. Some of their Designs were fine. Despite their not fitting with Sentinel Beam designs of Halo past, the designs are cool looking. But, very different than what I was expecting. I was expecting weapons such as what we saw in HALO: Legends. Alien weapons, yet familiar enough. Some way too familiar. (Looking at you Suppressor and Scattershot!). Their animations were really the highlight of their aesthetics. However, that's where the pros end. I remember my first experience with the Suppressor, and I still think this, it's just a grey and orange/yellow SMG. Plain and simple. I hated that. I rarely used it because of that. I would, and still do, avoid the weapon if possible. I hated how it looked like a SMG, (not THE M7/Caseless SMG, but it just has that SMG aesthetic that reminded me of say a MP5 or P90 or even a Vector) and it's an alien weapon. Yet, it looked way too human. As well as from another Sci-Fi Franchise, NOT HALO. Though, that can be said about many things from HALO 4/5. Take the Plasma Rifle. That's The Covenant/Elite's Assault Rifle. It does NOT look it. But, that's the point! The Covenant weapons look alien. Well, except for the Storm Rifle. It looks as it functions. A Plasma Assault Rifle. However, this isn't so much a problem of 343i's take on Forerunner weaponry, as it is their take on Weaponry as a whole in HALO 4. Still, the Light Rifle was cool. Design was interesting, but SPV3's BR45 Battle Rifle did what 343i's Light Rifle does, and in my opinion, does it better. Same goes for SPV3's Forerunner Weapons in the form of Sentinel Beam Variants with Holographic/Hard Light Scopes. I should probably stop comparing 343i's efforts to those of a Fan-Made HALO: COMBAT EVOLVED mod.
@KuraiLunae3 жыл бұрын
actually, just to touch on the disappointment with the weapons, you can literally watch as they reform themselves to match human anatomy and expectations. there's also the fact that, as far as i've seen/heard, the forerunners weren't that different from humans, from a "limbs and thought process" point at least. the whole reason modern day weapons are shaped the way they are, is to provide maximum accuracy and firepower, while still being comfortable to hold. it would make sense that the forerunners would have similar goals with their weaponry, just more advanced ammunition. while seeing some new types of weapons would be neat, and fresh designs are always welcome, it does fit lore-wise that the weapons we wield look the way they do. and that's not even touching on the whole "reclaimer" thing, which could easily explain why they adapt to our forms quickly and automatically.

Grenade and incineration cannon are unique as well. It’s the suppressor, light rifle and scattershot that are similar if not the same as other weapons. So really it’s 50/50 half reskins half unique ( the beam rifle is strange it’s a reckon in 4 but unique in 5 so I disregard it)
@tTaseric3 жыл бұрын
The Boltshot, Incineration Cannon, and Binary Rifle all felt unique enough to their UNSC counterparts IMO. The Lightrifle and Scattershot had enough of a unique feel and aesthetic that gave them relevancy in Halo 4, despite functioning pretty much the same as the other weapons. I've ever been a fan of the Halo 4 suppressor, and it's just a purely functional weapon I pick up on legendary only. The tracking bolt things it had in Halo 5 made it unique and I wish that were in Halo 4. I feel like the Suppressor was always supposed to be an enemy AI weapon first, then a player weapon. It's decent and unique enough to fight against, but in the player's hands it's just kinda... meh.

I loved the halo 4 light rifle but other than that I generally preferred Halo 5s forerunner arsenal. honestly the forerunner arsenal looking too human is characteristic of all of 343is alien weapon designs such as the storm rifle. I would have liked the weapons to be blue when the Promethians were blue because they were following the Librarian as well; it's not a big deal but I kinda liked that bit of lore and they should have continued it to the weapon design, they should also have made the Forerunners bluey-purple in Halo 5 as a hint that they were following Cortana, I still don't like that writing but it might have made it a little more impactful to have that bit of foreshadowing.

I never liked the Suppressor during my first few playthroughs of the game, but it has grown on me during the most recent one. The small amount of reserve ammunition (not what the magazine itself holds) for the Scattershot will always bug me. The Boltshot is okay- it has too small a window to hold down the trigger before it starts charging its burstfire, even considering its obvious counterpart, the Plasma Pistol. And with as quickly as the Prometheans move and most of them being small targets, I never found the Incineration Cannon to be all that useful when fighting them. My favorite weapon is the LightRifle. As dangerous and difficult as it is to get close to the Prometheans, with the Watchers flying, the Crawlers leaping, and the Knights translocating, it's safer and much easier to pick them off from afar.
@tTaseric3 жыл бұрын
I do love the Forerunner weapons, and I don't think any of them were useless (at least in Halo 4) but I do feel like the Lightrifle was stepping on the other precision weapons' toes. I do think Halo 4 handled this well. The LR, Carbine, BR, and DMR are all major weapons in different levels so you're probably going to have a shared usage of them all, and each weapon does feel slightly unique. The Carbine is amazing for clearing grunts and crawlers, the DMR is good for elites and watchers, the LR is good for knights, and the BR is the best for multiplayer. The Boltshot and Suppressor always surprise me with how useful they are in Halo 4, despite me never really using them that much. My only problem with the Suppressor is that they actually made the AR satisfying to use in Halo 4, whereas the Sound Effect and overall design of the Suppressor isn't as good. There really isn't much I would change about Halo 4's Forerunner arsenal, aside from the Pulse Grenade. I get that it's good at area denial, but the actual function of the Grenade was never clear. I'm still pretty unclear about what the grenade actually does, and how dangerous they actually are, despite playing Halo 4 at least half a dozen times since it launched on PC.

@@PackHunter117 Actually I think it still has two different modes with and without zoom, but they're both semi, differences are in damage and fire rate

The only promethean weapons that are great is the binary rifle, it basically fixed everything what the focus rifle got wrong

Does anyone know the effects that the weapons have? Like in terms of necrons for instance, Penetration, actual damage, and effects would be nice. (When I say ‘in terms of necrons’, I mean that necron weapons are said to strip atoms apart… stuff like that is what I want to know about these guns)

I quite liked the Promethean weapons in 4. I loved how overkill some of the weapons were like the Binary rifle and Incineration cannon were and I hope they return in Infinite alongside the flood so we can use them against the flood. Only thing I'd change about them is to remove the floaty bits to have them fit in with the classic Forerunner artstyle.

#HaloCanon You misspoke at the Boltshot’s introduction. “The [Forerunners] seems to adapt a designation scheme similar to the Covenant, though with a ‘Z’ at the [beginning].” Could grenade sniping (shooting dormant grenades) Pulse Grenades be useful for multiplayer?

Going to get a wild guess, the z stands for zombie. Aka the flood since they are mainly used against them.
