I was still in high school when reach came out. Now 7 years later I learned more about the Spartan 3 program and the children who participated in it. Watching the ending of this game really drives home the tragic fate most of the Spartan 3's were destined for. And Noble Six perfectly sums up their tragedy. With no family and their homes turned to glass they were given the strength to bring death to the aliens who brought them suffering. With Emile dead and no one left to man the gun Noble Six takes his place with no hesitation. In the end he became another Spartan 3 soldier who completed a mission, which if they succeeded would lead to their death. There would be no medals for victory, no honor guard for a funeral. Only the knowledge that Noble Six would die, and the 117 would use their death to defeat the Covenant. Halo: Reach for me has become the story of the tragedy of the Spartan 3's. They would achieve no fame like the Master Chief did. Never see the peace their actions helped forge. All they had was their pain. And their sole purpose was to send it back into the hearts of the covenant.

Enjoyed all of the Halo games but oddly enough this is by far my favorite Halo. I poured more hours into this campaign and multiplayer than any Halo to date. Can't give a reason why really since i know people dislike this one but it's my personal favorite.

yeah me too, at the moment that is. i used to play halo when i was little, and i recently got the master chief collection so i could revisit it. a couple weeks ago i finished halo reach and started on combat evolved. i havent played the whole game yet, but so far, it really hasnt been as good as halo reach. halo reach was truly a great experience. i dont easily get immersed in games, but halo reach was different. i genuinely felt sad when the other spartans died

I love the online (for the most part) but I can only play for about 40 minutes at most before I get sick and tired of the how everything looks (especially the pormethians). Yeah, that's my one gripe with the game, is that it went totally against the storyline set up in the book about Halsey not even knowing about the Spartan-III's until much later in the series. And here she seems quite comfortable with the concept, though she clearly prefers her II's like Jorge. Other than that, this is my favourite in the series (though I haven't played 4 yet).

one of my favorite campaigns! it had unique missions like the space one, the sniper one, and i really liked that mission when the human army goes against the aliens (excuse my lack of proper terms im a new halo fan). Though im very confused on the foundations of halo. How did the war start, was reach the first to get attacked in the war. I can give you a pretty good idea of how it all happened. And it's fine, the Halo series has a pretty rich history that isn't limited to the games. The war started when the Covenant attacked humanity on planet Harvest about 25 years before the events of this game/the novel "Fall of Reach". The first super soldiers humanity created were part of the Orion project and were originally made to quell human rebellion in Earth's outer colonies. The project was ultimately abandoned due to inconsistent outcomes (ie psychological damage, instability in subjects etc) that ultimately resulted in many of the super-soldiers receiving medical discharges.

Enter Catherine Halsey, who made an appearance in this game, some years later. She resurrected the orion project and spearheaded the process of determining suitable candidates (turns out the most suitable candidates were children no older than six years old). They created renamed the project Spartan-II to set it apart from the failure of the Orion project and began project MJOLNIR, which set out to supply the Spartans with advanced body armor. Noble Team is comprised mainly of Spartan-III's, the only exception being Jorge who was one of the original Spartan-II's

The context, at this point, for creating super-soldiers is still to quell human rebellion until the Covenant attack on Harvest when the war started. The original Spartan-II's were insanely efficient against them but also insanely expensive. they had planned to make 150 originally but because of funding they could only make 75. Out of those 75, 45 survived the augmentation processes. Of the 45 that survived, 12 were crippled or left with debilitating conditions. So the UNSC, for all its spending, had 33 super-soldiers to show for it and I can think of at least one who died on a first contact mission in the book "Fall of Reach"

Basically the Spartan-III's weren't meant to be a long term solution. They were made from orphans of war, they were cheap and viewed as expendable so that the UNSC could simply buy time in a war they were losing. It's true that Reach was incredibly well-fortified and had almost every Spartan present on its surface at the time of this attack, including Master Chief who I believe is subtly mentioned in the cutscene after the New Alexandria mission (Jun says something about several teams of Spartans deployments to Carter, Chief was a member of Blue Team). Almost every Spartan died in this attack on Reach and there was hardly anything left to defend Earth. I can't really explain to you why Earth survived after this without revealing major plot details, particularly ones that occur in Halo 2 and Halo 3

This is my fourth or fifth time coming back to this video, possibly because it was where halo begun it's decline, possibly because I do truly love that it captures the slosh and dread of the hc war, or possibly because it's actually a really clever game. but overall, i think that it's the fact that there's so much that can easily be missed if you're not listening closely that draws me back to this particular video.
