Halo: Reach - Walkthrough Part 6 - Exodus (No Commentary)

13:40--the part when you're flying through the city, watching a dozen different battles play out at the same time, is to me the best storytelling Halo's ever done. You have a powerful gun , but can shoot one thing at a time. Ultimately, you can save _some_ of the humans fighting--win _some_ of their battles--but you cannot save _all_ of them. You have to choose which ones you leave to die. It's the most touching, heartbreaking moment of the series in my opinion, and the soundtrack sure helps.

I love how desperate this battle is, it really shows just how vulnerable the UNSC is to the covenant, people think that their superior with people like the Spartans, and their true... to an extent, Spartans are expensive to produce, and the average marine is a hundred to one ratio with the Covenants elites, not to mention troops like the Hunters. It shows that not every battle in war is a victory (I know that a previous battle was the same way, but this one seems much more dramatic.)

Actually, on the contrary, the UNSC excelled in ground combat but it was the Covenant's orbital/naval prowess that led to the near destruction of the Human species. Once the Covenant lost the ground war, they simply called their superior naval vessels to glass the battlefield.

tbh this could've been a lot better and dramatic. Whenever I play this mission it always reminds me of the modern warfare 2 mission where the Americans were ordered to abandon the place specifically the part where your in the helicopter and here all the chattering from the radio.

I feel like this covenant was the elite, this fleet of particular justice was the best fleet the covenant had so it made an uphill battle worse

I don't understand why people think the Brute's blood is only dark red here. It's the same blood as in Halo 3 (red with blue splotches) except darker. Also, this game was a step in the right direction for the Brutes. The Covenant deploys them as shock troopers and they're a PART of the Covenant forces. They're not replacements for Elites, they're meant to work alongside them.

Another thing is because the brutes lack the code of honor the elites have, they have no problem murdering civilians. Brutes are highly sadistic by nature.

I think that's how the prophets wanted it to stay in Halo 2; they just wanted the elites and the brutes to switch places in terms of Covenant rank hierarchy. When the elites showed signs of rebellion, the prophets ordered the brutes to kill all of them. Had the prophets just kept things the way they were (or waited until after earth fell to replace the elites with the brutes), they would have won the war with humanity most likely.

2:15 was always more somber for me. The downed civilian ship definitely hit hard the first time I saw it and made the escape of the others that much more hopeful, but seeing all the massacred civilians was awful

This mission really made me hate the Covenant. Just the knowledge if you fail, thousands of families are gonna be murdered, gets me pumped whenever I play it. A lot of people seem to find it depressing. I just get angry. This game is great for making you feel like you're fighting for something more.

Well TMCC is meant to introduce players to Master Chief's entire story on one console which will then lead them into Halo 5 Guardians. Master Chief was not in Halo Reach except for that easter egg on Pillar of Autumn.

One helpful thing around the 11 minute mark is to give an advancing marine the rocket launcher, then taking it from him when you board the falcon so you can give it to another marine at the last stop. I find it less troublesome to rocket-goose the wraiths than use the warthog

Why are there Brutes in this game if there weren’t any in Combat Evolved?

Bungie added the brutes to every other game since Halo 2 despite the fact that Reach was set before CE. But I guess for canon reasons, the prophets considered them low ranks and weaker compared to the elites at the time until we see the brutes take over in Halo 2.

Yeah, if I'm not mistaken Brutes prior to Halo 2 were only used for the stuff you see in this mission: big-ass shock and awe sieges where Humans get slaughtered by the dozen. The Elites handled more sacred or strategic campaigns, and Brutes wouldn't be allowed on something like the first Halo.

slvrcobra1337 I believe it’s because in Halo 1, the Arbiter’s fleet was the only fleet chasing the Autumn, and the Arbiter May simply not have liked Brutes. Given his high status in the Covenant he may have been allowed to have a fleet without any.

So I’ve come up with a few theories on the differences in the games… I’m with the opinion that Thel’ Vadam didn’t have Brutes because he didn’t like them. There is clear animosity between Tartarus and he during and after his trial. It stands to reason he wouldn’t trust them to be among his ranks. There are no phantoms in CE, just Spirits. This is probably due to simple supply and logistics. All of the Arbiter’s phantoms were probably deployed to the planet surface or to the space campaign when he saw The Pillar of Autumn escaping in a hurry. The Arbiter followed with all the ships in his command… but that doesn’t mean he gathered his patrols first.

AlphaAssassin Legendary is so much fun (even if I did Die a lot on my own.) Banging my head against the difficulty wall is fun(well for me at least). I really need to get my console fixed or replaced/upgraded so bad (so i can do Co-op LASO(for the entire series) and then do it solo.
