Except for the weight of the weaponry. No big deal for a Spartan but an absolute nightmare for base humans to lug around. 4 lbs/1.8 kg handgun? There are short barreled rifles in that weight range. That shotgun weighs more than some belt fed SAWs and even then the recoil out of a pistol gripped 8 guage would be absolutely brutal.

You can get 18 pellets of 00 in a 12 gauge. An 8 shooting 15 pellets would kick less.

I believe that the video says that they're made out of tungsten. The in game rendering of the shell or box it comes in is also copied from a modern 8ga shell that fires tungsten pellets. There's also in game velocity stats for the pellets. I don't remember what they are but I remember that it isn't anything impressive. The game is essentially using an 8ga gun to shoot a 12ga round.

@@FrostyShock349 I imagine powder had many advances over 500 years to reduce recoil and increase velocity somehow. But a modern 8ga would be punishing to shoot, That's why 10ga is generally the upper limit of what's used today. A semiautomatic 8ga would've made more sense since you can use the semi auto recoil system to reduce recoil like the M82A1 or M107 Barrett does but a semiautomatic shotgun might be less balanced in gameplay. It's for this reason I believe they went back to 12ga in Halo Infinite because in all reality 12ga will kill anything up close, just as the Xenomorphs lol. But in all seriousness a 000 buck shell would cripple a bear and a slug would quickly take it down. If it stops a bear it will stop a brute or sangheli.

Commander Knight if you're asking whar quad loading is, it's basically grabbing 4 shells in one hand. So to start get them to lay in this order: == (make two towers of 2 shells) the bottom 2 go in first and the the top 2 go in the loading gate this significantly increases reloading speed.

10 gauge is barely "shootable" for a normal person, the recoil is insane. An 8 gauge shotgun would be unusable for an unarmored person. Shot gun loads "00" are described as "double aught". Gauges sizes are run "higher" to ""lower" in other words, the lower the gauge size the larger the actual size. For instance the "20" and "16" are much smaller than the "12" gauge. Those shotguns are primarily used for smaller "fowl" and are also used as "starter" shotguns for children and women. Shotgun loads also come in "Sabot" rounds (saybow). These rounds can be anti-personnel as well as anti-material. A "12" gauge solid sabot slug from a "high brass" round has the ability to perforate an engine block. Having a "10" or "8" gauge shotgun with a sabot slug would be Insane! The recoil could probably only be handled in rapid fire by a Spartan. Just thought I might share some info. Why just an 8 or 10 gauge? Why not a 7? Heck, even a 6! There are true to life firable 2 gauge shotguns. Better known as "Stopping Rifles". Used for big game hunting. When you REALLY want to put down something big with one shot. If not. You are generally a deadman. As the target you are hunting has likely killed you. Take a moment and think of a Spartan firing one. IF you do not know what a 2 Gauge shotgun looks like. Go google it. Heck, look it up here on KZbin. I'll be here waiting. *waits a bit in the time of this post* Back? See what I mean. Even a Spartan would curse just firing once. ONCE! And a real human being "could' fire it...and be lucky to even keep their shoulder in one place. If anything. A 2 Gauge Shotgun be one hell of a club.

Exactly. That shotgun would be excessively heavy to carry by normal soldiers and cops. An M4A1/M203 combo is lighter. Even at that weight, the recoil would be brutal with just a pistol grip. Plus patterning of buck shot is tighter than Hollywood believes. It's nor a mini Claymore.

Did you say 15 pellets or 50? 15 pellets of 00 buckshot is a waste in 8ga since 3.5 inch 12ga will hold 18. 8ga would hold substantially more. Also 00 buckshot is .33 inches or about 8.4mm. A pellet size of 9.5mm would be a shot size of about 0000, as 000 is about 9.1mm. 15 pellets of 0000 in a 3.5 inch 8ga would be reasonable if extra room was desired for more gunpowder. And a slightly related factoid. The now discontinued 10ga Heavi-shot "dead coyote" offering was made out of tungsten. In 00bk it held 15 pellets and in 4bk, 0.24 inch or 6mm, it holds 35 pellets. Both offering have reportedly killed deer and other similarly sized animals in excess of 80 yards.

@@djcuevas1057 8 gauge slugs are 21.1mm or .835 inches and weigh about 2oz. Historically you could get them in a 4 inch long brass shell that fired a slug at about 1650 fps. Modern ones are loaded into 3.5 inch plastic shells at a variety of velocities with modern smokeless powder.

I remember making the argument for this weapon actually being a semi-automatic by default with the pump functioning similar to the Spas-12. There is a good chance it isn’t as it isn’t really written anywhere, and the only time ever seen being used as such was in Halo Legends “The Package” which is known to have over sight lore issues. That being said, it would make sense seeing as the flood all one hand the thing and their other arm is unable to operate the pump seeing as it is completely occupied by the flood claw.

I don't understand how they decided that tube magazines were the way to go for these shotguns. Is it that at the time of development magazine fed shotguns weren't really around? Semi-auto and magazine fed is surely the path into the future for military shotguns. Maybe I'm missing something.

Kinda funny in the lore how the shotgun is described as being good vs armor. Traditional shotgun rounds that fire multiple pellets and even slugs are pretty ineffective at penetrating armor (although it would definitely hurt but definitely wouldn’t kill something like a brute or elite). Some shells can be specially made to fire hardened metallic darts but at that point you might as well just use a rifle.

I agree when sticking with traditional lead, but tungsten pellets can defeat level 3 soft armor and sometimes level 3 plate. Tungsten ammo is available in 10, 12, and 20 gauge shells.

My real world counterpart would be a Kel-Tek KSG. With 13 rounds of 12ga at your disposal there is not much you can't deal with. Put me in the Halo universe with a KSG or a KSG-25 (a longer version that holds 25 rounds of 2 3/4" or 41 rounds of 1 1/2" shells) and I'd be pretty well equipped.

I think that a top loading gun is a novel concept but with the modern missed to mount optics in everything, the M90 wouldn't be so popular since it's loading gate is in the way. The UTAS has its mag tubes on top of the barrel, but you load them from the side. It also had reliability issues.

this weapon is the perfect for combating flood form, I prefer to see them in use along with crowd control rifles like the saw or ma5b. Speaking of weapon combinations I prefer to keep the m6d and m90 at closer than any other weapon, good for improvised sniping of combat forms with rocket launchers.

why the UNSC futuristic army would use pump shotguns ? while they should use semi or automatic shotguns instead? i have my guesses; gameplay reason, semi or automatic shotguns, would be overpowered against covenants or floods, and less satisfying in the sensations with the pump at each shot ; for lore and realistic reason, i learned somewhere that pump action shotguns are more reliable, accurate and flexible than semi or automatic shotguns while being less expensive and complicated to make as a shotgun for any army. Is that true?

You're talking about the punt gun. "Punt" being the type of small paddle boat it was commonly mounted on. And i distinctly recall punt guns being much larger than 8 gauge, in fact, a monstrous 2 gauge. At 12 feet in length and firing a pound of shot in each cartridge, the punt gun is practically a small cannon and must be anchored to fire, like so. 🙂

It has an internal tube magazine, the M90s issued to the pillar of autumn had a dual tube internal magazine. Thats why halo ce shotguns held 12 shells and subsequent variants could only hold 6.
