The lack of spartan specific heavy guns is an actual problem. If you have what is basically a walking tank why are you arming it with small arms. Especially if what you are fighting takes a lot of small arms fire to kill? Real world they would have large high caliber weapons specifically designed for spartan use. Think about the mounted turret in halo those in a real world scenario would probably be upscaled and modified into a standard spartan rifle. The sniper rifle spartans use would be a highly modified and accurate anti-tank rifle. Their pistols would shoot literal shotgun slugs.
@autumngottlieb30713 жыл бұрын
@@hirokasonova7059 Huh. I never thought of that. I can see them justifying not doing that during the war because there's only a couple dozen of them, but the IVs are another matter entirely.
@hirokasonova70593 жыл бұрын
@@autumngottlieb3071 the only time that the lack of higher yield weapons is justified was when humanity didn't know the covenant existed. The longer your men have to shoot at a target to kill it the chance that it will fire back and kill your men is basically exponential. Even if it didn't fire back in time they would still have higher risks due to how long it took. Sure standard issue weapons can't be upscaled to the point of being unwieldy for the average soldier but an upscaling would be made. With the amount of funding the Spartan program has it would have specially designed spartan issue weaponry. Then again there's alot of issues with the military equipment in halo that irks me like the single manned scorpion tank. I know its partially because of those things being a problem of when it was made but war has an ability to paramount innovation and I wished halo portrayed that aspect better.

@@VegetaLF7 Yeah, and it's a shame how little it showed us of the Army and Air Force. Tons of more casual fans play through the whole game multiple times without realizing that those guys aren't Marines. I would have loved for the Army to get a moment like Sergeant Johnson's speech in the beginning of Halo CE, establishing to the player just who it is you're fighting alongside. Instead we got Colonel Holland who never even appears on screen. Also, I think the friendlies in Pillar of Autumn in Reach are technically Marines, even though they look the same as Army. For the people who want an ODST battle royale, you guys shouldn't try to simply conform to the battle royale standard, but think up something more unique. For example, a 100+ player mode that is basically big team battle/ invasion where playable units would drop in the battlefield in either covenant or ODST drop pods and fight one another, and at the same time, a flood outbreak occurs somewhere on the map and it turns into a giant game of infection. Like a 2 way war that slowly turns into just trying to survive the flood onslaught as they consume all of the fallen soldiers.

I believe in Halo First Strike that John once stated that take away augmentations and armour there wasn’t a great deal of difference between an ODST and a Spartan. And I think this is true. I think there’s some truth to the ODST view of Spartans as the ones who took all the glory while they contributed highly to the war effort which when compared to the Spartans is largely unrecognised. Which is why it frustrates me that when we were told that the best went to become SIVs this was completely brushed over and the SIVs at least in the beginning came off as highly underwhelming especially considering they’re supposed be ex ODSTs.

ODST are my favorite characters in the halo universe that’s why I always pick the ODST armor in every halo game

Very much based on the paratroopers of ww2. Those were the real force to be reckon with and very much the peak of military might. Knowing fully well that they are to be dropped into combat behind enemy lines surrounded and have to hold out before reinforcements they pretty much have to do all the roles of a grounded unit. Need to be specialised in engineering, infantry combat, sabotage, demolition etc except for piloting and other air force roles. The guts it takes to volunteer into such positions are nothing but respectable

My headcanon is that they are the direct descendants of the original paratroopers from ww2 which then gave birth to the Halo Jumpers in today's modern world where the jumpers "come down from the heavens to make sure the battle goes in the factions favour!" And then the Hell jumpers are the next group jumping "beyond the heavens and falling straight into Hell to take out whatever demons threaten the human civilization!" Has a bit of mythology to it if you ask me and I believe that is welcome when referring to all 3 eras of jumping from the "skies and beyond!"

This is the first time I'm hearing that Helljumpers were only 1 particular division of ODSTs...

I imagine for Americans at least it's easy to think of it like this. Say Super Soldiers became a real thing. You would still have the Rangers, SEALs, Green Berets, Delta Force etc. These organisations are massive and have useful everyday functions. You can also consider the $$$ factor. One Spartan probably costs more than a full squad or platoon of ODST's. Not every situation calls for the nuclear option.

"Halo: New Blood" basically makes this exact argument.

the footage in the beginning of cod: infinite warfare was so funny to me, that game tried so hard to replicate odsts.

Glad to see that you, too, consider Infinite Warfare a canon Halo game

god If I ever met Lt Mckay in real life I would give her 100 salute. Aside from Buck and Rookie she is one ODST that I respected the most. Without her earth definitely will not survive

Awesome video! Slight pet peeve: it's orbital drop shock-trooper, not orbital drop-shock trooper. ;)

Funny how the infinity is supposed to have at least 750 ODST personal on board during the 1st battle of Requiem but we never saw them

ODSTs are like the Krillins of HALO. “Just” human, but can still keep up with the heavy hitters

ODST is honestly an awesome halo idk why so many people hate on it when they haven’t even given it a chance

Because people like robots with cool armor. I like Spartans but I feel that another halo game not centered on them like odst would be good. Halo has tons of plot and resources to do many types of games, but we always get MasterCheif.
