Yes, it goes even way beyond the paltry overused word “Masterpiece”….it’s a fucking milestone…a game changer…you got a successful pop star who focused her passion on fulfilling her dream to work with Industrial Goth Rock Legends: Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross. The result is the greatest album of her career and they may even continue to work together…many hope they do…But my real concern is whether you clueless Halsey fans even appreciate the magnitude of this collaboration…and how it affects the mainstream pop music world….the Grammys is riddled with bad HipHop & RnB and even crappy pop like U2, Aerosmith, Pitbull, JayZ, Kanye West, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Puff Daddy, Kiss, Motley Crue, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, Guns & Roses, Maroon 5. Trent Reznor has finally achieved something that was long overdue: Make music with his cohorts that is everlasting: Visceral palpable haunting yet tranquil & even darkly heavy metallish….this is not the pop music you grew up on…but it will be the awesome pop music your freaking kids will grow up on…THANKS TRENT REZNOR & Ashley Halsey. Boom, you’ve been served 💎🪓

I love that she referred to this word we have in Arabic. We don’t realize it as usually it’s our mom and grandma or auntie that keep saying it to you when ur little. Ye’berni or يأبرني … the connotation and the sadness there is in this word. When we think about it it’s because of all the trauma we have and the wars that happened, so a lot of mother saw their child being killed, so in a way ye’berni is like I hope you will burry me and that I won’t have to burry you 💔

The fact that it’s about her child and her partner… ‘maybe one day we’ll trade places’ touches on reincarnation, and being tied to someone…at a soul level. 🥺 what its like to experience real love and all its willingness. Being willing to be vulnerable again…that pure love she’s been searching for - has been found in herself, for herself… through her child and her partner as mediums for that love. Her spiritual evolution and her self awareness in this album is stupendous. definitely a favorite.

The music is so minimalist and perfect…this is a display of sheer genius…Trent can hammer the fuck out of guitars and synths and any fucking instrument he puts his gorgeous hands on…but for Ashley he knows exactly how to tone it down and find the perfect sonic aesthetic for her to lay down her breathtaking voice and timeless lyrics. Special shout out to Atticus…he’s got amazing skills that’s more architectural but he can play the fuck out of a piano & synths too…these guys know how to be quite & stir up some jaw dropping moments of sound art that has enchanted the Godforsaken world….it is morally imperative that this divine creature HALSEY stay with my NIN Boys….they formed a TRIO that is potentially the greatest team in music right now & have innovated/pioneered so much together.

I added the album to my library on Apple Music on a whim after seeing it on a lot of lists for the top 10 albums of 2021 (and then learned the brilliant Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross collaborated on this). I am honestly floored. This is such a beautiful, powerful piece of art and this song in particular is stunning. I genuinely am excited to start going through more of her discography in a way I haven’t been with an artist in quite some time.
