Trent Reznor made sure of that too, hey…he and Atticus are putting her on the map…not taking anything away from her…she is absolutely incredible but fusing up with the NIN boys is the smartest move ever…whatever they touch turns to gold…and she is gonna ride that wave of mainstream success now that will change the playing field forever…her album is setting the new precedent for today’s crippling mainstream…her record is a game changer and she is taking deep instruction from a musical genius (Reznor)…her life is forever changed and her success like Reznor’s will be insurmountable…Blessings to the Halsey Camp 🍸

This is my favorite song on the album. I interpret it as a reflection about being taken advantage of by men, the anger she experienced because of it, and ultimately coming out with the upper hand. Though, I suppose in some ways it speaks to the cyclic nature of abuse; in the beginning, she describes being overwhelmed after betrayal by the devil, but in the next verse she similarly betrays and abandons a sailor. The chorus is interesting to me because she describes a lighthouse "in the middle of the deep." Are lighthouses not regularly in shallow water? ..To prevent people from running ashore? ..To let them know when they're finally close to land? A lighthouse in the deep is misleading and would certainly cause chaos and a fair bit of heartache.

"The Lighthouse" From a tender age I was cursed with rage Came swinging like a fist inside a batting cage I went swimming with the devil at the bottom of a lake And he left me there by my lonesome He was tall and mean with venom eyes so green Wanted reconciliation, but my tongue was in my teeth And I couldn't find the floor so I was kickin with my feet But they weren't there, they were stolen There is a lighthouse in the Middle of the deep end I'm still standing on the shore line And nobody hears me scream And I'll lure you like a landslide And I'll show you lovely things If you rescue me but they'll make believe The lighthouse by the sea I met a sailor on a ship with promise in his eyes He kissed me on the mouth and dug his fingers in my thighs But a sailor ain't a savior 'cause they only tell you lies So I left him there till the sunrise Well, the waves were tall and they were crashing down He's laying in the water begging God to let him drown So I showed him all my teeth and then I laughed out loud 'Cause I never wanted saving, I just wanted to be found There is a lighthouse in the Middle of the deep end I'm still stranded on the shore line And nobody hears me scream And I'll lure you like a landslide And I'll show you lovely things If you rescue me but they'll make believe The lighthouse by the sea Well, that should teach a man to mess with me He was never seen again And I'm still wandering the beach And I'm glad I met the devil 'Cause he showed me I was weak And a little piece of him is in a little piece of me There is a lighthouse in the Middle of the deep end I'm still standing on the shore line And nobody hears me scream And I'll lure you like a landslide And I'll show you lovely things If you rescue me but they'll make believe The lighthouse by the sea And the waves come crashing down And the waves come crashing down And the waves come crashing down (And the waves come crashing down) And the waves come crashing down (And the waves come crashing down) And the waves come crashing down (And the waves come crashing down) And the waves come crashing down (And the waves come crashing down) And the waves come crashing down (And the waves come crashing down) And the waves come crashing down (And the waves come crashing down)

An eavesdropping person at a Circle K saw Halsey (Ashley), Trent (Michael), His wife, Maryqueen, and Atticus sitting in an all-black nondescript chevy van nearby a street named "Halsey" where they specifically wanted to see it because it has the same name: Halsey. Anyway, Ashley was talking to a random person in the parking lot there for a while and the random person and Ashley were discussing HTDA. Maryqueen had something to say to the random person when she heard the conversation, however the fan did not know whom all it were standing right there and whom exactly were coming and going to and from this black nondescript van into the Circle K and back. Ashley continued with this conversation with the HTDA fan (fan seemingly never knowing who these people were, lol) and the eavesdropping person heard Trent saying to Atticus, "We need to work on HTDA after she gets back." So, could it be that inspiration was drawn in the area nearby Halsey Drive? Right about now, they'll be getting "back" so, hopefully, they've found some inspiration for new HTDA material. The fan out there at Circle K never knew who it was in the parking lot that day, but the cashier who was outside smoking a cigarette sure did! Turns out the cashier has been a lifelong NIN fan since TDS. Cashier is convinced that Maryqueen had been taking notes (possibly song lyrics) and that Trent and Atticus are looking forward to working on HTDA whenever they get back. OR - could it be that her notes was nothing more than a shopping list and "work on HTDA when we get back" is another way of saying let's leave now and talk to fans at another time. Cashier is convinced that HTDA is actively working on music at this time.

I feel these lyrics so much, thank you for writing what I can’t put into words. Any of us can relate to these lyrics - so much anger and rage inside that I wanna let go but CANT!

I couldn't choose a favorite song from the album, they are all wonderful and special and leave their own character

Hearing a (most of the time) femme presenting person sing "from a tender age I was cursed with rage/came swinging like a first inside a batting cage," was like... Wow. It's an internal expression of violence that touched something familiar in me and I'm a woman who goes by they/them too. Halsey days things other prior don't talk about

Lighthouse to me was the standout . It shows why Atticus was welcomed in to NIN as this sounds like a 100% 12 Rounds song even down to Halsey’s vocal tone , but the refrain is where you hear Trent’s flavor come in and how their two different musical perspectives have a magical overlap . If you haven’t listened to 12 Rounds My Big Hero LP from 98 IXI I recommend it as it was one of the the last great trip hop records .

Is it just me or do the lyrics feel like a Siren's song? 😮 Hasley just blew my mind with this masterpiece of an album. ❤❤❤❤💕💕💕💕

Honestly always thought this song would go well with the movie The Lighthouse (with Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson). Which is a horror/psychological film. With some super natural occurrences. Just a great song that's creepy.

This is far and away my favorite from her new collection. Not only can you feel Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross's influence on it, the song tells a story and makes you imagine dark, beautiful things. A perfect song to welcome autumn's arrival soon.

Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross and Halsey (Ashley Frangipane). This collaboration kind of feels unexpected and expected to me personally. Before Nine Inch Иails, Halsey was my absolute favorite artist, and now Halsey made a big project with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Neat.
