SO glad one of the ladies in live chat mentioned the Ham and Beans I have a leftover ham bone in the freezer that needs to be used and my son-in-law bought me dried Navy Beans at Gordon's Restaurant supply last week, they have the freshest dried beans so much better than the grocery store. Making out my menu for the week from your recipes and This one is number one. Louise, I love your channel I am a visual learner and when I found your channel I was looking for a peppermint patty recipe and stumbled onto all your Ninja Foodie videos I received my new 8 qt from Sam's Club last week My son-in-law has made the Hot sour soup for him and I no one else likes Chinese food but for us, he also got ingredients for eggrolls and the crab lagoons. I love the way you cook and yes it is real food and real simple, you don't use a lot of spices that are hard to get and maybe only use once. You are real and not fake and no fake nails LOL That was the first thing I noticed. You are a beautiful soul, stay as you are. Keep making videos for us Please

@TheSaltedPepper
@TheSaltedPepper 5 жыл бұрын
If the large lima beans are dried, I would increase the time by 5 minutes and maybe increase the liquid a little. The soup was on the thin side at first, so there might be enough liquid, but I'd probably add a touch more to be on the safe side. The soup does thicken up.

I found this recipe (love all your videos) for making ham and bean soup. I have always made my beans and ham hocks in crock pot. I have not tried to make this in my foodi yet. I like to make just beans and use my smoked ham hocks from the freezer. My husband just likes them plain without veggies. And since there is just the 2 of us I use the 1 pound of dried great northern beans with about 4 smoked ham hocks. Watching this video should I use the same pc time for my beans and the same amount of liquid (I usually use water)?? I would appreciate any suggestions you might have.
@TheSaltedPepper
@TheSaltedPepper 3 жыл бұрын
The PC time depends on the type of beans, but for the most part, this timing should work just fine.

That looks delicious , making this today. The only question i had and it might be a silly question, but if i didnt have the leftover ham bone but just ham, i would put that in in the second round of vegies?
@TheSaltedPepper
@TheSaltedPepper 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! If your ham is not spiral sliced, I would put it in at the beginning so it helps to flavor the soup. If it is spiral sliced, It might get a weird texture with that prolonged PC time. You figure it's boiling in the liquid for 45 minutes under pressure (hotter than 212F), that is quite a lot for a thin slice of ham to handle. Here is the written recipe where you can find answers to questions like this (all my videos have written recipes either on my website or in the video description) thesaltedpepper.com/ham-and-lima-bean-soup/

Would this work with a can of butter beans?
@TheSaltedPepper

You would want to greatly reduce the PC time if using canned beans and also decrease the liquid.

Hi Louise, that looks good. I was just telling my husband I need to see if you done a video for ham and bean soup.I make my soup with the 15 bean soup bag. I don’t have a ham bone but I have left over ham that I sliced off the bone. Would the time still be the same with out the ham bone and just chunked up ham instead? I usually rinse my beans and then add everything to my crock pot and cook on high for just about all day then switch it to warm when it’s done. I can’t wait to try this in my Ninja!

Do you have a video on the best type of knives for everyday cooking? Mine seem to go dull too quickly?
@TheSaltedPepper
@TheSaltedPepper 3 жыл бұрын
The best knife is one that is comfortable in your hand. It's about weight and balance. As far as them going dull, you should be able to sharpen almost any knife. The knife I use the most is the 8" Chef's knife from Pampered Chef. I love the way it feels and it stays sharp a super long time. I would say that I sharpen it every 3-6 months. I should sharpen it more frequently, but forget. Here is the link to the one I use: www.pamperedchef.com/pws/thesaltedpepper/shop/Kitchen+Tools/Cutlery/8%22+Chef%27s+Knife/1575

Have you ever used a round ceramic baking dish instead of the aluminum baking pans? Some of the pressure cooker recipes in the cookbook that came with it mention using one. Thanks 😊
@TheSaltedPepper
@TheSaltedPepper 5 жыл бұрын
You have to be careful when using ceramic under pressure, it can crack. I just bought a ceramic dish from Pampered Chef that they use in their pressure cooker, so I'm hoping that works fine.

Can this be done with ham not on the bone ?
@TheSaltedPepper

I'm sure it can, but a lot of flavor comes from the bone. I would definitely get the ham base for flavor.
@pennywebb9324

Just wondering...Since the ham was falling apart anyway, why didn't you just let the veggies cook while you cut the ham up and then just throw the ham in? Seems like it would reduce the time a little. I'm always in a hurry. Great recipe though. I love the fact you can have beans a lot quicker in the Foodie.

While I love your recipes, I wish you could lighten up the recipes somewhat. When everything has a stick of butter and lots of fat, it's a heart attack waiting to happen for my husband's family. You are so talented! So please, please, PLEASE create some recipes for the Foodi that are tasty for people watching their caloric intake. Thanks!
@TheSaltedPepper
@TheSaltedPepper 3 жыл бұрын
Forgive my confusion, but this recipe doesn't have any butter in it and the fat comes from the ham itself which is kind of normal for ham & bean soup. You can always cut back on fat in almost any recipe to better suit you and your family's dietary needs. The only time that doesn't work well is with candy, like toffees, and some other baked goods. I do have plenty of recipes that are low fat, both here and on my website. I have "cream soups" that are made with cauliflower instead of the heavy cream, I have southwestern turkey burgers, low carb salmon patties, seared scallops with pearled couscous, guilt free shrimp Alfredo, and chicken tortilla soup just to name a few. So, perhaps it's not the recipes I'm creating as much as which recipes you are seeing here on YT? The best way to search my recipes is via my website because you can narrow it down easier and even search by ingredient. Also, in many of my written recipes I will give instructions on how to lighten it up. Hope that helps! Here is my website: thesaltedpepper.com Let me know if you are looking for something specific and maybe I can point you in the right direction.
