Wowwwww!!!!!! You are so amazing that you can make art with any art supply. I've heard that a lot of people find soft pastels kind of hard to work with but you are oh so amazing. Your blending is gorgeous and makes the piece look just like human skin. Your channel deserves a million subscribers! 😊😊💖💖👏👏 This belongs in a museum.

Soft pastels are soooo amazing to use for portraits, it's hard to do details though bec of the chunkiness 😆 Is that Cinderella? 😮

Yes it did get hard towards the end. Maybe I need to supplement with colored pencils for smaller drawings. And yes this is Cinderella 😍😍

Don’t you find the lack of excessive detail is what gives the image its character? I think the execution of this portrait is incredible. There is so much depth. You cannot hope to define detailed structures with this medium but here she shows there’s no need to

I was so excited for this video and the whole artwork since you posted about it on the community tab. Love the way you worked with this medium. I've never tried pastels and thought about buying exactly those of Paul rubens to try it out. I always thought pastels were really messy and dirty but you really showed how beautiful they can be. Tysm for the video

I think this is the most satisfying video you've made. Sooo nice seeing you put the pure pigments of the pastels down 😍 Your work with the soft pastels and with the oil paint gives the illusion that you've been working with those mediums longer than you have. Amazing job! PS. Love that movie :)

This is an absolutely gorgeous and stunning art piece. I am very interested in pastels after I learned about them in my intro to art course and am really wanting to give them a try. So I’m avidly researching to figure out techniques and the supplies and types of pastels I am wanting to use. This is one of the first videos that I clicked on and I am now very convinced that I need to work with soft pastels lol

Stunning! I have also loved everything I have purchased from Paul rubens! In fact, I consider them my favorite brand. They have tons more products than what Amazon carries. They have an official store linked in Ali express, which I have purchased from multiple times. They ship fast and tracking to my door. I was trying to decide if I wanted to buy these with my birthday money and shoot to KZbin to see who was using them. This video earned you a new subbie! your voice is also soothing and puts me in a creative relaxed mood! Thank you for sharing your first pastel artwork with us. This is a stunning portrait! 😍

You did a great job using them for your first time. The portrait came out wonderful! The layering of them I like to think of as when you're applying eyeshadow makeup and blend colors. The right paper also makes it easier to hold colors. I love using soft pastels. It's messy as hell lol but the finished product is so lovely. When it comes to details on portraits you have two choices. Using the 'hard' pastel sticks like Nupastels or using pastel pencils. Soft pastels come in a variety of consistency from super soft to hard ones. Ultra softs are really great for when you're covering a large surface of area instead of grinding down on the pastel sticks. I use Panpastels for that. Then you get to your soft/crumbly pastel sticks like Sennelier's brand which is a step up. Then you have a more stable soft pastel like the Paul Reuben's above. After that you're moving to the med/hard pastels that are for great detail. The pastel pencils are great because you don't to sharpen them with a knife. You can just sand to get your points for any fine detail or line work. Pick some up if you can and try them out next time for another portrait.

Wonderful! I am completely obsessed with soft pastels. I've done all kinds of animals/birds but not people yet because it's slightly intimidating for some reason. Thank you for showing us this. I plan to do portraits of all my family members. I think soft pastels are far too overlooked by many artists. They are every bit as fine as oil paintings and sometimes it's hard to tell the difference.

If you need to do fine blending work with pastels, I’ve found it’s helpful to use a tortillon* … same as with charcoals! Especially when you’re doing features, around the lips and eyes. *Also called a “blending stump.”

I so much enjoyed watching you create this piece and also your narration. I loved the music choice as well. Lately, I've been researching soft pastels and am looking forward to seriously trying the medium. I will definitely get the Domestika course. It seems that several credible sources recommend the LuxArchival Professional sanded art paper as the #1 choice, and I love Lisa at Lachri Fine Art's non-toxic choice & technique for applying fixative to soft pastels. Check out the Albert Handel interview here on YT from Feb 2012. I hope you do more soft pastel pieces--I think this one turned out very nicely.
