ANTHONY RAMOS IS SO UNDERRATED. i love him. like he killed it as lauren’s andd philip. the emotion and small details he puts into his acting is incredible. Like during the reprise when hamilton finds out lauren’s passed or during blow us all away when he gives philip that fire.

Daveed's charisma is just overpowering, anytime he's on stage my eyes just go straight to him. He has such an amazing stage presence as both Lafayette and Jefferson. It's not just that he gets some of the best one liners ('you are the worst, burr' and 'My God' during We Know come to mind) but he just walks around the stage like he owns it, like he's the actual lead of the play. Which is perfect for both of his roles, especially Jefferson.

Such a clever piece of staging @8:14 - Burr enters, is greeted immediately and cheerfully congratulated by Hamilton. But Burr is distracted by the three amigos and fails to see Hamilton saluting him in a very respectful manner and the chasm between them widens once again. (Hamilton does not help his case by immediately reminding Burr that he won the aide-de-camp battle and Washington's confidence. Plus he is a saucy little minx and calls it "George's journal" when the only possible address for Washington is "General." Hamilton knows this, knows that Burr knows that he knows this, and gives exactly zero fucks and goes with it anyway). Fast forward to "Your Obedient Servant" and Burr makes Hamilton's "disrespect" the casus belli for his duel challenge.

Here's the problem, Marc -- every time you study one of these songs, I NEED TO WATCH THE ENTIRE SHOW AGAIN! But, that's okay! The first scene has echoes of the students in the tavern in Les Miz. I like the understated casual approach to the harmonies that add to the context of the drinking buddy atmosphere in both scenes.

This song is one of the shorties but has so many purposes is impressive, I mean, stablish the friendship and the bond the four have, the willingness to die for the freedom of the colonies, creates the atmosphere for Laurens' death (for me, his death wouldnt be so sad if it wasnt for this song, I mean, is a "minor" character after all), stablish that Burr is kinda left out of the friendship, and is brought out again for Hamilton's last words when he's kill by Burr... I mean, its amazing how such a short song and apparently "not so important" does so much

I'm actually really disappointed that you didn't include the final instance of the song, because that instance really brings the emotional weight of it to the forefront. The 4 men would die for freedom, 1 did, and his ghost inspired Hamilton to do the work of 2 men.
@Karen-Campos
@Karen-Campos 3 жыл бұрын
This short melody (accurate or not) is quite powerful in moving the story forward (pun intended). The audience sees how these 4 men went from acquaintances to comrades in a cause. The brotherhood feeling draws us in and compels us to care about their success, individually and collectively.

I love Anthony in both Story of Tonight and its Reprise. The first one is more relaxed in its tone and slightly more dark-ish. It really speaks to the audience, and Laurens Gay Stares at Hamilton are pretty accurate (my opinion). In the Reprise I love how it's more upbeat and more comedy based, faking being drunk, the funny dance line lead by Mulligan, and of course Laurens coming up to Burr for no reason and pissing him off. It's just amazing what these guys can do, seriously.

There are two instances where LMM does not rely on what’s comfortable during emotional moments. When he stands up to Washington and says, “Call me son one more time!” And in Hurricane when he says, “And when my prayers to God were met with indifference I picked up a pen, I wrote my own deliverance!” Maybe you should watch them again.

I actually only made the "Tomcat" reference the other night and only just noticed that Laurens and Hamilton are the first to sing "I may not live to see our glory" respectively in the reprieve and the first version of this song. That is bloody foreshadowing of which characters in this story will *not* make it to the end of the musical at its *Finest!* And I also feel a bit silly that I only made those connections in the last two days while I have been an avid - and to my friend vocal - fan of this amazing musical since about 2019/2020. Still, that's the beauty of this masterpiece. It just doesn't matter how many times you watch/listen to it, you'll almost always notice something new that gets you hooked and reaffirms the beauty of this show. Which is why, if this piece *ever* comes to Holland, I will gladly pay a couple hundred to go see it, no joke.

I love the contrast here between the original song and the first reprise - the first is all high ideals, the second is really personal, but using the same melody to link them as they’re both about the relationship between the four characters. Also love the Burr/Hamilton section. Hamilton’s reactions here - seeming genuinely happy that Burr is there, chasing the other guys away so he can talk to Burr - show that he and Burr are still on good terms, even though Burr isn’t part of the same group as the others, and even though Hamilton says he doesn’t understand Burr.

When Laurens (of course Anthony) says, “Raise a glass to the four of us.” it's a slight historical inaccuracy. Cause this song was set in 1777, Hamilton hasn't met Lafayette and Laurens yet. And another inaccuracy is when Laurens says, “There’s hope for our ass, after all!” Lafayette, Laurens, and Mulligan were already married by the time Alex got married. Mulligan in 1773, Lafayette in 1774, and Laurens in 1776. But besides the historical inaccuracies, it's still a very awesome musical. AND I understand entirely that the musical is not wholly accurate; Lin even said it (I think). You guys really need to stop twisting my words and putting them in my mouth.

@@rizchaos I know that, Sherlock. I was pointing a couple of the inaccuracies. I also read articles that said there were historical inaccuracies, and Lin also said there were quite a few inaccuracies. And that's why I said, “besides the historical inaccuracies in the musical, it's still an awesome musical.”

Hamilton is a historical fiction based on a true character, but it is not at all a historically accurate representation, if it was it would be no where as entertaining, and some of the most enjoyable songs of the show would never exist; Angelica didn’t need to marry well, she was the oldest daughter but had older brothers … Hercules Mulligan was truly amazing as a spy, but his slave Cato did much of the actual work to get the information. Historical accuracy doesn’t play into the musical, Lin’s interpretation of Hamilton and the other players is an amazing piece of art that stands alone from the history. When you try to break it down “Historically” you take away from the beautiful piece of work. The musical has done an amazing thing though it has made a huge number of people start studying Hamilton and the rest of the American Forefathers!

I really still want to go to see the musical live. But I am too scared that I am so used to the voices of Leslie and Daveed that it will make it less enjoyable. Like Lin, I can miss. I like his version but Leslie is so iconically good. irreplaceable. Greetings from the Netherlands!

With Lin's performance of Hamilton I feel like defaulting to the same emotional tactic makes sense.. we watch the show we can tell that Alexander is a narcissistic made by the things that happened to him as a kid... So he wouldnt be able to feel the same emotions as others.. in a lot of ways its reactionary to be able to convey the minute feelings he would feel compared to the higher feelings others would find easy. hes had to watch and relearn how to have feelings... and a default reaction that would be felt as appropriate for how others are reacting .. now that being said how he reacts after Philips death is more of that "pretend" feelings actually breaking away for him to really feel again... Thats my take on it anyways.

@@mandipowell7797 the vowels ( combination )"uy"are not usual in German.... it's more " Dutch " than German . In German it would have been "Schueler " or " Schuler". And the SCH is pronounced like the SH in ships. Greetings over the great pond ! 😍❤️😍

Okay, lol idk if you’ll see this, but Schuyler is not pronounced Shooler, it’s pronounced Skylar. I also do not mean to be rude, just thought I should let you know.

I absolutely agree with you on how Lin Manuel Miranda sings or makes up for his lack of singing ability in trying to convey emotion. It takes me out of the moment a bit everytime he does it. He is brilliant in what he does in terms of his talent in writing composing and so on, it's just when he tries to do that, I tend to be put off it and how often he falls to it to get his point across.

Marc, love your channel, but Mrs. Washington never referred to Hamilton as a Tomcat nor did she name her cat after Hamilton. Both these narratives have been debunked by historians. Furthermore, the reference was not made until well after both of their deaths in 1860. It's a popular myth that has been perpetuated over the centuries by story tellers.

Lin has even done interviews where he admits that it was a myth about Hamilton that was in the book that inspired all of this but he leaned into the myth for 2 reasons. 1) it very well could have been true but just not documented 2) it is a fast way to show that he was a womanizer and chased the ladies
