Thank you so much. As a part time yoga teacher/student I’ve really been thinking a lot about strength training recently as I approach 40 but not always able to get out to the gym. This is something I can do at home to begin to work on my bone density Great and doable 🙌🏾

I've enjoyed this practice. I teach yoga to seniors, some of whom have osteoporosis (as do I). I am wondering if it is safe for people with osteoporosis to practice dead lifts.

Generally speaking, yes. In fact, if the person with osteoporosis is lifting up a grocery bag: deadlift, picking up a child: deadlift, lifting packages from their porch or apartment lobby from Amazon: deadlift. Heavy lifting is one of only two non-pharmacological ways to build / rebuild bone (the other is impact, like running / jumping). I talk about it a little in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipa8m62fa5x2bqs . I also recommend that someone with osteoporosis with with a physical therapist, even if once a month, or once every 3-6 mo to work on a plan to re-build bone. I see people via telehealth for this exact reason every week: wellilo.janeapp.com/ -- best wishes to you!
