OMG I have 2 just like this stubborn bird and it's been so exhausting!! I have felt so horrible that My Husband and I have had to force the food in them.... it has just felt so wrong and I was so worried we would accidentally aspirate them. One of them has been so much worse than the other and nearly impossible to feed. we've had to hand feed both of them since the younger baby was 2 days old because Mom and Dad weren't taking proper care of them. I've been so fearful that they would never eat on their own and I just didn't want to think about the worst situation; and 2 days ago.... they started eating some peas and carrots I've been giving them. I literally cried. This video makes me feel so much better. As usual, thank you Kevin!

Thank you for sharing this! When I first tried feeding my baby birdy, he completely refused. I was worried that he was sick or something was wrong, but he honestly seemed completely healthy and his poops are fine. Haha, same thing with my birdy. He is sooo stubborn, its frustrating, (he doesn't even want to open its beak!) but a complete sweetheart. My goodness, I have been so worried, I usually have to end up force feeding him, and after a bit he usually opens up a tad. Hate force feeding him, especially with the fear of accidently aspirating him. He honestly reminds me of a fussy toddler that refuses to eat. Glad to know that this is somewhat normal amongst some baby cockatiels! Update: Hey! So its been 2 weeks, and now my baby tiel grew in his feathers and is adorable (He's around 5-6 weeks old now) . He finally warmed up to me, now he isn't stubborn at all. He loves his formula, and eats it. (yay!) and best part over all, never worry about overfeeding him, since he seems aware of how much he can take until he's full (don't worry, i always check his crop just to make sure) and he's a complete sweetheart. he has started flying and is soo cute. Loves sitting on my hand, (even though i need to get his nails clipped a bit, since if he climbs up my arm, i end up getting alot of scratches.) he loves napping, loves my colorful markers, he can still be alot at times, like when I try and put him in his cage at night for bedtime, He HATES his cage, he chills in there sometimes but hates when I close the door, any tips to get him used to his cage? Anyways he's been an absolute angel, and internally grateful for this video that kept me from panicking too hard. Can't wait until he grows up more and can start flying more properly!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
@Bird.Squawk2 жыл бұрын
First, i'm sorry for the late reply. Hes at the weening stage. their crops are shrinking. its a tuff stage for hand feeding. at this point you want to make sure you are offering him lots of other seeds and pellets during the day. He needs to go a little hungry... during the day. Then I give them a good feeding to hold the through the night. Let me know hows he doing now. Kevin

I've used it but I always wait till my temperature gets to 105 before I put it in. Any hotter than that then it loses its effectiveness.

Hello, I have a cockatiel whose age I don't know and the guy I bought it from doesn't know either since he wasn't the person who took care of it. I'm guessing he's 4 weeks old, his weight is 71g before eating and I feed him 7ml 4 times a day and after every 6-7 hours his crop becomes almost empty, am I feeding him too much or too little? I'm really worried and I can't really trust the vets in my area due to several reasons.
@Bird.Squawk2 жыл бұрын
Let me try to answer most of your questions. First let me start by saying I have a few videos that cover this exact topic if you want to look at those. I think you'll get more detail out of those videos. I think ones called how much to feed baby cockatiels. So let me give you an example of what your goal is. Your goal is to keep food in that baby's crop all day except once a day. Once a day you want that baby's crop to go completely empty. But only once a day. This ensures that the last 24 hours worth of formula is passed through the crop and is passing through the baby. If formula is allowed to stay in the crop it will sour. This can lead to a problem called slow crop. Slow crop is when the chick has developed a yeast infection inside of its crop because of sour food. It's been my experience the only way to correct that is with around of antibiotics. So to answer your question are you feeding too much. I don't think that you're feeding too much as long as you're not over feeding it at the time it's being fed. Every bird's going to be a little different. You need to feel your birds crop but not overfill it. then you need to wait and see how long it takes for that to get almost empty. That may be 2 hours that may be 3 hours It may be an hour. All birds are different. At that point you need to refeed the baby. And then as stated above 1 time a day you will let that crop go completely empty. I hope this helps. Again I will say I have a couple of videos that go way in more detail about this and feel free to watch those if you have more questions let me know. Kevin
