This is a the second part of a two video instructional on how to control someone who you are trying to place in handcuffs, but he is refusing to cooperate and combative. In this video, I Officer Freddy Trillo, a Miami Dade Police officer, and Jiujitsu Black Belt, touch up on the subject of the bad guy trying to bite the officers leg. I explain how to bring your leg up a bit higher, away from his face. If you apply enough pressure to that shoulder, it will be very hard for him to even attempt to bite you. The pressure forces the subject to turn belly down, as it is the only direction he can move without further hurting himself. I added a finishing Strangulation in the event you feel that you are losing control, and or feel your life is threatened. Be advised that the moment a strangulation occurs, if applied correctly, he should go out in a few seconds, but not always immediately. There are many factors and variations involved, but in general if applied correctly he should go out within a few seconds. Once your feel him stop fighting, you may notice his hands drop to his side, immediately with CONTROL, lay him down and immediately handcuff. Once handcuffed, place him on his back, raise his legs and tap him a few times in the face to wake him up. In most cases, they wake up on their own.
Please post any questions, comments etc. If you can help with some support, please visit my patreon page and donate so that I can purchase better equiptment for better instructional videos.

I work security here in Calgary. I wanted to let you know that this move is really effective in gaining compliance. When I worked Loss Prevention, without cuffs, this hold was very effective in getting the perp under control. One thing that is quite different is doing this on a hard surface. My knees took some serious bruising whenever I had to do a kimura - - other than that, a very effective way to control someone. Kudos to you for demonstrating this move!

So many bjj concepts can be used. I've used the Kimura numerous times. I've used it on people while they're standing and just bring their arm behind there back to get cuffed. Also if you have the Kimura grip locked in from the standing, you have a lot of control. It's very easy to leg sweep them while maintaining that grip. I love the kimura!! Thanks for the video!

I've seen many videos of live arrests where the police seem to struggle (even where two officers are involved) to subdue and handcuff a suspect. Sometimes the officers will resort to punching and kicking in their frustration. These techniques are much more effective and end the struggle quickly. The longer it takes, the higher the probability that something can go wrong.

In all forms of training, until you really get a complete and thorough understand and or mechanics of a move, “Slow is Fast, Fast is Slow” It is an old term we would use in SWAT. I can assure you that I can perform these much faster pace, but I will also increase the chances of hurting my partner, and the viewer won’t be able to really see the mechanics of the move. I can also assure you that you can have the same results with proper mechanics and disciplined training.

I loved your video and technique! Please tell us what is the proper procedure for putting a suspect into the back of a patrol car, when they refuse to enter willingly? What is the procedure when their method of resisting is to go limp? What do you do when they extend their legs fully, while in the back seat, making it impossible to close the door? What if you are being surrounded by an angry crowd and you have the assistance of three cops? Would you handcuff the ankles and link them together, then slide the suspect into the back of the car on his belly? I think the Minnesota cops were using proper technique and that the crowd with video contributed to the tragic death of George Floyd. The officer couldn't focus 100% on the suspect and felt threatened enough to pull his mace and point it at them. They weren't following lawful orders to keep their distance. There is a pandemic, which also heightens the danger for these officers? What say you?

While most of PPCT is garbage, the Mandibular Angle technique actually works great when trying to get someone into restraints. Coming from Corrections, that one was my bread and butter when trying to secure a combative into the restraint chair. If you can get the position solid and start applying pressure they'll starting flailing and bucking for a few seconds. Keep riding the bull and cranking down then they'll submit real quick.

It doesn’t work like this in real life when a bad guy wants to get away. Also, this guy is teaching a choke hold when everything else has failed. There are plenty of cops in jail for doing what he’s teaching. I’m not saying I don’t agree with him. All I’m saying is the guy you’re arresting isn’t worth going to prison for. Let the criminal go unless he’s trying to kill you or anther innocent person.

If someone is trying to get away, yes it can be quite difficult to control someone. However, Everything I teach I have done, not 1 not 2, but hundreds of times. The control of the Kimura leading to handcuffing is every officer's best friend tech. The Strangle isn't authorized by many departments but can be used as a last resort. You don't have to use it, and if you don't train regularly on it, yes I agree you shouldn't try what you don't know and aren't allowed to do. Everything else here works 100%. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. TY

@@kYA00h I went back and looked at your question and gave it a thought from an outsiders view and I now see what I believe that you meant. Cops should not engage in physical fights if at all possible. I get it. Here is the problem. It is those same cops with little physical training that are all too quick to resort to their weapons in a fight. It is much easier to pull out a taser and or gun than it is to fight someone. I am trying to get cops to do less of that, and more hand to hand. Become more comfortable controlling someone rather than having to taze and or shoot someone. I believe we both want the same out come but if you see some of these officers in person and how clueless some are, you will understand. Now also understand that there are very good ones that know how to control someone but you don't see them in the news much because its not news when no one gets hurt. I hope this clears things up and my apologies if I sounded upset, I actually am not. I get 100's of comments from many folks outside of police work and they act like they are the experts but have never been in our shoes. You sound much more educated in our line of work than most. Keep up the good work. Peace!

Ed, thank you for watching my video. Everything I teach, I have personally done on subjects, for over 20 years working the streets of Miami. I understand your point and to an extent, I agree, it's time to handcuff. My point was that when you are comfortable in the uncomfortable, you won't freak out, you won't panic, Instead, you are in total control. My point is Control, not beating up anyone. I don't teach violence, I teach control leading to restraints. Thanks again.

Max its literally for optics. The public wants to see that the officer tried up until the end to de-escalate. Looks better on camera if the cop asked the subject 50 times to comply before shooting him rather than taking him to the ground and then hearing a gunshot ring off. If you say what your seeing and what your trying to accomplish outloud on camera its just easier. And CYA. Its the current climate we live in.

Ok Freddy...how do you word the report so that your non-BJJ trained supervisors, prosecutors, judges and juries understand what the hell you are talking about? lol. It will be much easier to articulate a Figure Four Arm Control for compliance. than trying to word an ass-kicking where you hurt the subject and or yourself. A properly applied Kimura doesn't have to end in an injury. You use it to control him and restraint him.

You answered your own question, disguised as a comment. If you have time in the middle of a fight for your life, nothing comes into your mind but to make it out alive. If you have time to think about whether something is allowed or not, then it's probably safe to say your life is not on the line, in which case you apply whatever you know to do in line with your use of force policies.
