Great video!! I learned that my calmness will help the child get through the temper tantrum. I also need to remember to not take it personally.

Another beautiful video and so much to learn, what importance when we face a complicated situation do what you mention, breathe, offer empathy that we need so much in these times to be able to handle temper tantrums more with the children who are learning to drive their feelings and what they don't like ! ty Dr. Becky Bailey

I really needed these skills this year. I need to practice this more. Keeping myself calm. Breath with them. Tell them they are safe helps them and you.

When she was saying that we should tell to a child "you can handle this" I realised that a child has the feeling that he cannot handle something, some strong emotion, that is hard to cope with... That's interesting how some adults still cannot cope with their emotions, and how parents can actually help their children, the future adults to handle their emotions and feelings.

Does anyone remember the video with Becky Bailey singing to her grandmother? I'm trying to find it to share with staff.

Even medication can affect a child’s feeling, temperament & reaction. Trial and error! Try until something works.

So any tips on how to handle a tantrum from a two-year-old child? Who also happens to be somewhat non-verbal? And the fight is getting him/her off the bike he/she was playing on?

Trust is such an important part of parenting. That’s why she said, “tell the child they are safe”. And at the height of the tantrum, the child needs space.

What about adults having temper tantrums? Are the solutions the same for young kids as it for adults?
@ConsciousDisciplineVideos9 жыл бұрын
Cassi Bales Conscious Discipline teaches new skills to the adult first and the children second, empowering adults to become the mindful parents they want to be. With Conscious Discipline, we can learn to discipline differently than we were disciplined, break the cycle of “do as I say, not as I do,” and discipline our children without permissiveness, aggression or guilt. An adult who is having temper tantrums is a person who did not learn how to express their wants and needs appropriately during their own childhood. Additionally, their ability to self-regulate was most likely not developed as well. Self-regulation is the ability to manage your emotional upset and behavior, and is a prerequisite skill for life success. The way adults handle emotional upset when children are throwing fits, backtalking, name-calling, being defiant and withdrawing will either foster or inhibit their ability to develop self-regulation. Our book Managing Emotional Mayhem lays a conceptual foundation, explores limiting beliefs, presents new adult skills and teaches us how to coach children in this transformative self-regulation process. This book is very helpful for an adult who wants to have a transformational behavioral change if they are willing. consciousdiscipline.com/store/pc/Managing-Emotional-Mayhem-4p158.htm

@Anaclara See if you can find a good DBT Therapist in your area. If your son won't go sometimes it can be helpful for family members to attend DBT and use the skills with the person struggling and teach them when they are ready. DBT stands for Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.

Some time when a child don't get something that they want is not a temper tamtrum but just soiled by most parents.
