In this video, I melt down some lead tire weights and cast them into the perfect egg shape for a slapjack. I sew up some leather, insert a spring steel handle, and put it all together. It is whippy and mean looking! Music: I Am Never Leaving You For Good, By The Mumblers. Used by written permission of the copyright holder.

Is it heavy enough? I've made 2 saps the first was a trial no spring inside so too floppy and not enough weight in the head. The next one I'm satisfied with the steel ruler I cut to fit and melted the lead around, then glued and sowed it into the leather. Very slim in fact got it in my back pocket right now. Invisible but effective.

The sap is a great self-defense weapon one level before deploying a firearm. I have seen many people struck with a sap and it is a very effective weapon. I would not recommend a head strike which could be fatal unless the use of deadly force is justified. I would recommend a 4-ply sap because I have seen the lead weight fly out of a 2-ply on a hard strike. Many companies make these weapons although they are prohibited in some jurisdictions. Great video.

Thanks, JDP. That is good information to have. What are less-lethal places to strike with one?
@TexasNightRider
@TexasNightRider 4 жыл бұрын
@@SugarcreekForge Any place below the neck. Shoulder blades, elbows, ribs are effective strike zones and will cause the subject to reevaluate the situation. I have seen a morbidly obese male absorb a couple of blows to the upper arm and chest but the sap was eventually effective. Personally I would rely on pepper spray first if possible. I have sprayed several people with Sabre Red. They are startled for about 1 - 2 seconds which can give you time to place some distance between you and them, but once they recover they have another (on average) about 10 - 12 seconds to continue the attack before they start with the Wilhelm scream. The good thing is there are no injuries. Both are effective weapons.

Do you suppose casting two separate spoon ingots and sandwiching them on either side of a full length spring shank would make much of a difference? Too stiff perhaps? I would love to give this a go. I have a small collection of rather long used up sawzall "torch" metal cutting blades that I think would make pretty handy steel shanks.

I own a couple saps that I have bought. Fortunately they are totally legal in my state (Utah) I bought 1 on Amazon and one at my local Army/Navy Surplus Store in Salt Lake City. However, as to be expected, any sap one finds on Amazon or Military Surplus Store is masses produced, and while I am sure it works, it is cheap looking and not what I am looking for aesthetically. I have an idea of what I want and though the others are functional, the look I want is more because it’s kind of cool, not because I intended on relying on it to use. I have bought the supplies to make oneThat I have found very little information on the process of sap making an no videos until this one. It seems pretty self-explanatory, and I was just going to freestyle it. I am a woodworking hobbyists and amateur craftsman, but I am not a leather smith and have virtually no experience with leather craft. So while the project seems obvious, like most projects there are no doubt things one doesn’t account when crafting a project for the first few times. Great video, thank you for posting it. It gave me a couple of new ideas and reinforced that my plan of attack is on the right track, I was just missing some details that would really simply unforeseen variables. Do you have any resources for other plans, videos, ideas, or information on different styles like shot filled, saps with out a spring, etc. great video, thanks for the upload.

🙂I understand that, SC. It is a simple Kydex press. If you search "how to make a kydex press" here on YT, you will see several like it. It is a square of plywood and then some small pieces stacked up to give one end some height and then another piece attached to that stack with two hinges. Then it has heat-resistant foam glued to the inside of the bottom and the top that touches in the middle. So when you press down it compresses all around the object. I hope that helps!

I’m curious why you would show the world the tips and tricks with sap weapons? As well this Isnt made properly to defend. Please test it on a Human for feedback.

Hi Green Man - I am not sure what you mean when you say you are "curious why you would show the world the tips and tricks with sap weapons". Do you mean why I showed how I made this one, or that I did not show any tips and tricks on how to use it? Please help me to understand. I checked out your work on your website and you really make beautiful stuff. I modeled this one after one carried by an older policeman back when they were allowed to carry them. So, the design was tested against a lot of humans :-) Since you make them professionally, I would love to hear your feedback on the best designs. Cheers, Tim

SugarcreekForge you plan to make money off making saps, it isn’t wise to show other aspiring folks how to make... less money in your pocket.

Hey, William. I made that press myself out of plywood and door hinges. You can make one too. You are welcome.

The music let's this video down. It would be. I think better to accompany the video with a voice over helpful to explain some of what you are doing and a better battery might help. 👎
