The two lead guitars, Midori and Miyako, are arguably the two BEST twin lead guitarists in the world at this time. They put in countless hours together outside of normal band practice and they have honed their timing to an insane level of tightness. Also, Miyako, the dark haired guitarist, is a world class concert level pianist. That white piano is there for a reason and if you do more Lovebites reactions, you'll get to see her chops. Now if you want to see a guitar duel of the ages, check out their performance of Scream for Me where you'll be treated to no less than 16 guitar duel exchanges between Midori and Miyako. Congratulations! You have been introduced to what may be the BEST speed and heavy metal no-nonsense band in the world. We in the Wolfpack look forward to your next reaction.

Thank you Andy Helms as always for recommending this, and Damian for doing it! Welcome to the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their five years of existence as a band, they set a standard that easily puts them on a par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels sent to save us, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. Whatever the description, I think one can say they have given metal a badly needed makeover and maybe a new lease on life. They have themselves said that part of their mission is to save heavy metal from darkness and obscurity. Some background: They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and soul of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the greatest European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other bands. The whole group then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she also trained in ballet). Miyako has composed most of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics. They studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance is that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. This is one of their usual first songs for reactors, and rightly so--you get a good sense of the band. They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like a demon). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band." Here are more clips you should check out: Their most recently posted live clips, “Set the World on Fire” kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2rdpHtsnqySbMU and “Don’t Bite the Dust” kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXnRfHp7n5Z2g8U, which are both from their recently released concert DVD “Heavy Metal Never Dies”. "Edge of the World" and "We the United", back to back: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZ2TXohjrtB9ebc They form an incredible journey from darkness and despair to light and hope. Also, “Empty Daydream”, which starts as a ballad and becomes a real rocker: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oonLkKiDgp5noLc. Miyako is also a professional-level classical concert pianist, and was headed for a career in classical music, before picking up the guitar. If you want to see what she can do on the piano, watch “Swan Song” WITH the prelude, which is Chopin’s “Revolutionary Etude”. Miyako wrote “Swan Song” using elements from several classical pieces including the Etude. This link should work: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXPLpaSdnr14d5Y; but if it is taken down, you can watch two clips back to back: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnWlm5yHfp6Wr8U and kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3bWdop_iMhrh5I I promise, it’s worth it. For a thrasher with heavy Metallica vibes, “Break the Wall” kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWGVYpSGZ8aibLs includes two gorgeous and completely contrasting solos by M&M. For a heart-stopping ballad, “Epilogue” kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6rRn4t6m6qhpLs (this includes a second song, your choice whether or not to react to both) Finally, while you will sometimes hear you should only react to live clips, actually their MV’s are epic and worth seeing. Here are three of the most spectacular: "When Destinies Align" kzbin.info/www/bejne/nn2plp9_bpiJoa8 "Glory to the World" kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6itpXdojaqLfpY "Winds of Transylvania" kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqSoZYiYlLWdnpo. You'll get lots of suggestions, just one thing: don't bother with Bloodstock footage, the sound quality is poor. Best to take suggestions with actual links. Also, you can’t go wrong with any of their official clips. Welcome to the Wolf-Pack!

Was deleted by GaiGuys because I was critical of a couple of their reactions, so didn't realize you had responded to the M. Friedman reply a couple weeks ago (either that or I simply missed it in the inbox). Heaven forbid if GGuys become a kind of reacter-of-record to Japanese rock---they've already pretty much snagged the Band-Maid crowd. I'll stick with Old Mr B et al. Yes, touring Japan is one thing, but don't know where ...bobs got the notion that Western rockers have homes there, as in being domiciled there like Friedman is. What never ceases to amaze me is the amount of wrong info about Japan its language/culture/society/music propounded by armchair Japanologists, whose knowledge of the place goes as deep as the first paragraph of a Wiki article or a Twitter account. In that regard, you are a standout exception. With all the bassists female and male that Japan has available, it's interesting that Lovebites are auditioning. Excellent PR move, although some established and highly qualified bass players may balk at auditioning.

@@tbkegaijin well, appreciate the note. My knowledge of Japan is pretty superficial--I can order in restaurants and say "I don't speak Japanese" in Japanese. But I've traveled there a few dozen times and can't wait to make a trip back just to spend a few months going to concerts. Love your comments and knowledge of the scene, and who knows, if I make the trip I hope to meet you.

@@hiawatha.g Maybe at the Budokan when Band-Maid eventually get around to doing a concert there. I'll be in California to see Band-Maid. Last show I saw in Cali was Babymetal at the LA Forum. Blond guitarist (Midori) is playing an ESP-11 Horizon (Reindeer Blue) guitar. Lovebites don't only play power metal. You should check out a couple of their ballads - 'Edge of the World' and 'Epilogue'. For some thrash try 'Break the Wall' and 'Set the World on Fire'. And for something very different 'Frozen Serenade' and 'Swan Song (with the piano intro). You should always try to react to their live performances which fans consider are better than their studio recordings.

glad, you liked them. thank you for your pro reaction. they are sooo much more than just a powermetal band. watch them thrash like almost no other band: "set the world on fire", tokyo 2021 from their official channel. they are inspired by all the good metal stuff from earlier times ( like iron maiden, judas priest, helloween, slayer, megadeath, pantera, testament and many more) and sometimes even classical music. you´ve seen, that they are top musicians and performers. but what really sets them apart from the most other bands: they are great composers. founded in 2016, they won metal hammers award for best newcomer in 2018, played wacken in the same year as first all female metal band. and in their whole background catalogue of around 50 songs you won´t find one bad or mediocre song.

to me holy war is the perfect song to start your LOVEBITES journey. if you don't like this you probably won't like them. and i might add if you aren't that much into power metal the talent on display here may not change your mind - but it just may ! these ladies stand apart from the rest imo. and write all of their own music. they are their own genre even though they draw comparisons to many bands. as others note below they play everything you can think of - power , thrash , hard rock , power ballads some with amazing piano pieces by the right guitarist miyako a trained classical pianist since the age of 3. what ever you like they deliver live better than anyone. i did kind of laugh a bit though when you said you have a low number of subscribers. 4.5 k is nothing to sneeze at as there are some reactors who are still struggling to get out of the 100's ! welcome to the wolfs den

LOVEBITES is a relatively new band founded by Miho (bass) and Haruna (drums) in 2016, but made their major debut just six months after the first stage. Before the pandemic, they were touring mainly in Japan / UK / EU, and have already participated in major metal festivals in each country including "WACKEN OPEN AIR 2018" and have been highly evaluated. And, at the offer of Herman Li, they participated in "DragonForce UK Tour 2019" as a support act. LOVEBITES has been suspended from activities due to the withdrawal of leader Miho (bass) and the birth and marriage of other members since last summer, but recently started recruiting bass guitar staff.

Great reaction. You seem to know what you are talking about. Here are just a few things that set Lovebites apart from the rest for me. I'm not saying that they are the best band in the world or something, but they are really, really good at what they are doing. There might be tons of power metal bands out there, but few reach the same heights as Lovebites. They take from the best and have actually transcended their influences in some ways. With Lovebites you're gonna get top-notch musicianship, immaculate precision, great riffs and amazing guitar solos. They are excellent live and their songwriting is impressive and built on a great understanding of music theory. They show appreciation for the classics, their discography is diverse and I love that they can still get really heavy for a band rooted in power metal. They have it all. And they'll constantly harmonize. It's very pleasing to the ears.

Seems like everyone didn't really like power metal nowadays, and I totally understand. But don't worry, power metal is one of many other genres that Lovebites has. They have 5 elements and genre which you can see in their pentagram symbols. Nothing dark or negative about that pentagram. Because it has the meaning, the 5 sides of the pentagram are the elements of all the five members skills. Maybe you can react to more of their other song and find what their best song for you. Anyway, thank you for reacting to this great band.🤘🏻 I hope you have a great day!✌🏻

YES, finally someone who gets it - Nightwish may have a better singer, but musically Lovebites plays heavier/better HEAVY METAL. Everything you said about Lovebites is high praise if you are not a power metal fan. Now before you think they are just a power metal band. Wait until you hear them play their thrash songs (they have at least a half dozen) some of which have a strong Slayer vibe. Check out one of these songs next: Break the Wall: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4HGYYuBZdGBo7c Set the World on Fire: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2rdpHtsnqySbMU The Awakening/The Hammer of Wrath: kzbin.info/www/bejne/paWti4OLeNysha8 (Make sure you use this video and NOT the one from Bloodstock. The Bloodstock audio mix was horrible and does not do the band justice because they switched stages at the last second and could not do a proper sound setup).

Not 100% sure where the "if you like Jinjer, then..." comment comes from since Lovebites and Jinjer are very different to me even though both are great bands. Lovebites are definitely worth checking out more of! Their style ranges from full on powermetal like this to more hardrock on the one side, to really thrashy on the other side. You'll get more than enough suggestions for more of their songs :) If you're interested in a Japanese band that is a bit more along the lines of Jinjer, I absolutely suggest checking out Saiseiga - "Ride On!" Also, I guess you'd not be opposed to some doom metal? If so, you really should check out a "Doom Witch Duo" out of Osaka called BlackLab.
