Another good video. How much of an overlap do you recommend and does it change depending on location or length of patch? Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.
@LakesideAutobody4 жыл бұрын
I try to keep it small on what ever patch I'm doing. I wouldn't go out of my way though to make it too small of an over lap - because it's not fun when you notice a gap and you have to toss the patch you just made and start over. You can press a sheet of paper up against the hole to get a pattern or an idea of what it needs to look like.

What if anything can be done if a panel gets over heated during welding and warps?
@LakesideAutobody4 жыл бұрын
Great ?. Not to worry. 1. You may cause sort of a oil canning effect where it pops in and out - this will fix it.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWawh4mkqKqFp8U 2. If you're welding a long seam and you accidentally warped it, just cut the spot welds with a die grinder and a thin cut off wheel www.amazon.com/Arbor-Metal-Stainless-Steel-Wheels/dp/B077Y7DLF4. Ask again if that didn't help

What grinder are you using?
@LakesideAutobody4 жыл бұрын
Great ? - I use 40 grit fiber resin discs on a grinder like this www.harborfreight.com/5-in-high-speed-air-sander-68739.html or one bigger like this www.harborfreight.com/7-in-10-amp-variable-speed-polisher-62861.html Any thing else like this www.harborfreight.com/4-1-2-half-inch-angle-grinder-with-paddle-switch-65519.html?_br_psugg_q=grinder will sort of shine the metal which you know - nothing likes to stick to smooth surfaces
@davekana83884 жыл бұрын
Lakeside Autobody, thanks! So do you like air or electric better! The air grinder is only 20 bucks. I do have an Ingersold Rand 60 gallon air compressor. So air supply would be no issue!

Why not cut the patch proper and butt weld? Lap is sub optimal.
@LakesideAutobody4 жыл бұрын
With respect that's false internet info. No body shop in Michigan butt welds because of this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2rFm42Vit2ngMk Also, you can fix anything with lap see: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWfdnJZviraUitU and it lasts as long as you want it to see: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bonEi3WvbKx2baM
@ajd53634 жыл бұрын
This does not show why a lap weld is better. The lap requires more filler also. Shops do laps because it’s easier I suspect.
@ajd53634 жыл бұрын
With a lap weld, you will always have air between the two pieces that are lapped. You will never create a vacuum there. Where there is air, there will be condensation.
@LakesideAutobody4 жыл бұрын
@@ajd5363 Both ways work just as well. Its your decision - I've got videos on lap or butt. Myself I prefer a combination of the two like in this video - If done right lasts forever. Use small overlap - weld solid - no moisture - especially if you keep the drain holes clean (most important thing in rust prevention). Please see this video for longevity of this type of repair if done correctly: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bonEi3WvbKx2baM or kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKCWaJeOYpKqZqs

Goo day. I just subbed your channel a week or so back and have been watching some of your videos. Like what you are doing. Nice work but why not but weld all the way around? Thanks for sharing. And I hope that you come over to my channel to help me out.👍👍😷
@LakesideAutobody4 жыл бұрын
Do you mean weld it solid as in one continuous bead? If so, you can't do a bead because heat would expand the metal causing big problems. If you're talking about spot welds right next to each other you can do that - I'm actually ok with them about 1/4" apart. It's never going to rust on the seam - never. On the other side the seam is upside down so no moisture will ever be a problem. If it's goin' to rust it will start where the salt water and debris get trapped.
