Thank you for the comparisons. I just put up the original ones a month or so ago. Love them. Then ran across your video that there are newer ones! I just wanted to tear mine down and get these Pros. Go figure, just got done putting up 400' of the original lights on my house, and another 400' on my parents' house... however, I think I like the originals compared to the added price tag. I don't like the splicing option, looks pretty bulky and would need to definitely be mounted with hardware, then also try to find somewhere to tuck them away on each splice to not be an eyesore. Here's my vote from them to also release a brown version of the lights, to give all the common soffit/eaves colors an easy option! Would be nice to see the max brightness differential. I know its hard to capture with a camera, but that's the biggest selling point of the Pros, and we can't really see how that looks on your house in this video. What do all those extra lumens actually do compared to the originals?
@handydadtv
@handydadtv 11 ай бұрын
My trim is white so the black wouldn’t have worked for me. I didn’t want to stick them up so I used a piece of J-channel for the outside comparison. I show a brief clip in the end screen. As for brightness, I didn’t see any difference with RGB. I think their claim of 30 lumens per light is only in white mode.

@RushPL1 I’m exploring options for an upcoming video. I like the use of J-channel because (1) it’s cheap, (2) it hides the wires, and (3) it could be used as a temporary, removable channel if you can’t have (or don’t want) permanent lights.

I think the original ones are better. The lights are closer together and have the lights blurr together for a solid look. The PRO ones look too spaced out and are choppy. I would rarely light up my house white for day-to-day operation. Mostly used for holidays like Halloween or Christmas! Maybe the prices will do on the originally when the pro goes on sale!

Just decided to look these lights up again and noticed there's a "pro" version out now. I don't need black because my soffits are white, the brightness seems to be too similar to tell, plus I live on a street with zero lights and my house would be plenty bright already. I prefer the closer together setup with more lights per string. I'm not afraid of splicing to make it fit in the areas I need them to fit. I do think having the adjustable white temps would be nice but I don't think that single feature alone is worth it to me to buy the Pro over the standard lights since I'll likely leave the white alone anyways. Thank you for the video and the comparison breakdown.

Figures... I just put up the original version last week (bought them a couple of months ago) and I didn't even see a pro version on their website, or I would have got those instead. Having said that, I still quite happy with my purchase, I spliced my own where required anyways without issue. The only two things that bug me is they're all white. Not a great look on a house with all deep brown trim and soffits. The second is the programming, I'm sure some kid would have no issue but in my 60s and I find it user unfriendly and frustrating. I'm sure they could be made simpler to self program in somehow. Overall, they do look great on the house, and I'm happy with the result. Thanks for the video.

I had never heard of those lights before. Thanks I'm going to consider putting them on my house after I have it painted. The difference between the 2 sets that I could see other than difference in the whites is where the puddle of light stops. The original has a wider light puddle than the pro. I sort of wish they made the original in the pro's trim. I prefer the light from the original but the convenience of the pro's whirring and the wider puddle of light.

Now that I just purchased the original ones that come in white and then painted them brown like my trim. These come out. L O L. Even though I do like the features of the new one. Since I already have these. I don’t think it’s worth the extra hundred dollars. Especially if the main thing that I would be buying them for is the ability to splice them. Which brings up another problem. It seems that the deals they give you to splice are pretty bulky. I wish they could slim that down a little. Thank you for the video. Lots of good information

Excellent video! I have a few questions. I live in a 3 level split house. Will the PRO version of the lights work for the following measurements?? 1) I need 16feet of lights on my Garage 2) I then have a 18ft Gap to the next set of lights on my first upper peak ( 16feet of lights needed here) 3)I then have a 18ft Gap to the next set of lights on the highest peak ( 60feet of lights needed here) So I will need 92 feet of lights. So the 100ft in the PRO set should work? In order to use the lights as intended and have then in one line.... - How will I bridge the first gap of 18 feet and then the second gap of 18 feet? - Will the One Extensions + 2 Shorter Extensions reach? How long is the longer extension and the two smaller extensions? Or will I need to splice in my own wire? If so, what wire do you recommend, what gauge and where do you recommend getting it? - Will the splicers that come in the kit be enough to do two gaps? - I want to keep the Controller and Power supply on the lower garage so I have easy access to it. Thanks for your help.

I see a huge difference in coverage. I don't know how that can be missed. Having the 5th light is important when the light is less diffused like these are. Look at the cones, they are more even with the regular version than the pro. They should have never removed that extra light, in reality they should have added a couple more or found a way to increase the brightness with the diffusion to make it seem more like a glow and less as a defined light source. I was eager to get with the pro but after seeing this, I don't think so.

I have been considering for a while. Called a pro company (Trimlight) and they wanted thousands of dollars. My hesitation is that my trim is dark brown, so I know white wouldn’t work, maybe black would be ok. I wish they were a little closer together. I feel like the splicing should be done differently. I could be 100% wrong here, but I think you’re supposed to use your own wires from large end to large end, then the male/female ends are supposed to connect between the Govee pre-made sections. That way, you can make a jump as long as you need and still have the same stand connected.

Paying more and getting less lights, I'm not sure about. If I'm putting these on my house, every night is going to be a light show and I want as many lights as I can get dancing around my home. Yes, the better white light is nice, but how often are you going to be running just white light? It is nice to see a company that seems to be listening to its customers I know people have been asking for the black wires (probably the day the first kit came out) and splicing the old kit kills the warranty. So, I'm still on the fence, no shortage of projects around the house maybe next holiday season I'll be picking up the Pro Plus version (or ten grand falls in my lap and I just call Jellyfish? We can all dream right.) Thanks, Dad, for the great informative video.

Would have been interesting to see how well the new model actually lights up the area around the house on max, and on white. The diffuser is a good addition and so is the white LEDs, RGB can never really produce white, they make a light blue more often than not, and so it is with the old strip here also. In my case I'd like the white to be sufficiently bright to properly illuminate the area in front of the house, and have a pleasant white, so the new one is very interesting. Also, the black would be a huge boon to make the lights unobtrusive, that alone is interesting. The price is a tad steep.

Wanting to know if I can set my own color scheme such as red, green, red, green or maybe white white, red red, green green, etc? I can't figure out from watching and researching if it's only four bulbs at a time must be the SAME color or can I change an individual bulb???

I’m more interested in the matter support with HomeKit that no one has tried or reviewed yet. I have the normal porch and driveway lights automated for sunset. But with HomeKit when I come home my garage door opens, the lights inside the garage come on, the door from the garage to the house unlocks. And if this supports matter and can be used with HomeKit I can make it increase brightness when I arrive for 5 minutes on the approach to my house. Or maybe if it running a theme for a holiday to just switch to normal lighting for when I arrive a change back after 5 minutes. If the doorbell detects motion then change to full white at 100% also. But no one has tested this with matter yet, sort of makes me want to try them and review them with matter and HomeKit.

That is an important feature for me as I would love for the ‘holiday lights’ to tie in with my landscape lighting year round. I have a question which hopefully you may be able to answer or make a video/short on? At minute 11:30 in the video in the side by side comparison of the two light strings… how did you mount the Govee led lights to the soffit? It seems like some sort of rail or wire cover that is concealing the wire strand in-between the individual LEDs. Please share on what you used to make that track and that may just the solution I was looking for before committing on these lights! Awesome video and research as usual!!! Looking forward to seeing your final holiday setup!
