In my region disposals are coming out and not being replaced, almost close to being outlawed. New homes are not even being roughed in for them in a lot of cases. The county’s have all gone with organic recycle ( yes, another bin to haul to the curb) and nothing goes down the sink. Got to say though, it’s a positive thing, my weekly garbage is down to a teeny bag and everything else is recycle pick up.

My old apartment I rented we couldn’t even use the garbage disposal when we moved in because the painters that the they contracted out before we moved in put nails down the garbage disposal how smart is that! It was very rusty!!!!

If you replace an old garbage disposal with a larger capacity disposal unit, sometimes you can't use the old black ABS pipe because it's at a different height compared to the smaller unit. So you have to redo it.

Snap-on off sets harbor freight, yes? Can't believe more people didn't pick up on that. Nice work. I would say add a 5/16" and 1/4" 2 in 1 nut driver to your kit, seems like a lot of appliances have those fasteners, a lot friendlier to use than a slotted! Great work.

You can get these with the plug pre-installed. It's only a few more dollars than the one without the cord. I charge that to my customers and still charge the same for labor. I have to order them in from hdsupplysolutions, but they only take 1-2 days to ship to me. I keep 3 on hand at my shop and 1 in my van. If I run into one that is hardwired, I install an outlet. It makes it easier next time and doesn't take me any longer to swap out. I just have to carry a 1 gang metal j-box, outlet, and cover.

You can also turn the locking collar by inserting a Phillips head screwdriver in the part he was gripping with the channel locks.

One of the common problems with in-sink disposal units is the increased likelihood of clogs, especially if the food waste contains saturated fats, which solidify at room temperature and can build up inside pipes. Although these tend to occur more often in high-traffic restaurants or commercial buildings, blockages are nonetheless responsible for about 75% of all untreated sewer overflows.

Replaced one just like this, as was linking etc... Went to remove it with the tool, & as I was turning (the unit was SO rusted and old); the disposal broke in half. The motor & electrical part just fell off, & the metal casing was even cracked inside. Whoever installed, ran the electrical directly out of same hole as plumbing for sink drain & didn’t even wrap the romex with any protection(major no no in nec code). Ended up doing a complete rewire with box etc... Good times, good times👍🏻 Lastly, I always USE putty....find it works the best & never have call backs. Fun story. Got called for leaking sink. Went in & owner said they tried to fix with the silicone sealant. They just squeezed the silicone in between basin lock nut & had silicone everywhere. Took more time removing, cleaning, & cutting the stuff out than installing new sink drain & disposal....he literally used the whole tube of silicone🤣 & sink was still leaking. Okay, great vid, & glad use & prefer putty. L8R ✌🏻 (I know you have some great stories, have heard some😊)

In-Sink-Erator used to be the standard. After 2 rusted out on me exactly as yours did, I switched to American Standard. The big problem with ISE now is the grind chamber on the less expensive models rust and corrode. Didn't used to be that way.

It pees me off that dishwasher and garbage disposal manufacturers don't put power cords on their appliances. It also really annoys me when clients don't empty the cupboard below the sink and the sink itself before the plumber/handyman comes to work on it.
