Hang a Flag Without Making Holes (Round, Square or Rectangular Post)

Dave, you are my hero. I moved into a condo and there is no drilling into the walls here. I just wanted to hang my flag and have been searching for an easy and inexpensive way for me to do that. Didn't have much success until I saw your video. You have made me so happy, cause I think I can do this now. Don't know anything about tools and now I know about a U bracket. I think a can of spray paint will be helpful so that it all blends in nicely with my deck. Way to Go!

Thank you for this. It's not what I was looking for, but it did help me come up with the right idea. I'm securing a flag to a T-post. The grommets make the side easy, but the top is more difficult. I don't wanna put holes in the flag, but using a clamp might just work

I'd like to affix the flag pole bracket onto a square column. The column is a façade, not solid wood, approximately 8 inches wide. Fastening it using screws will not hold up during medium to high winds. I would rather not use metal bands to fasten it for aesthetic reasons. Any ideas on how to fasten it would be very much appreciated?

Hi Rick. That's a great question. Using toggle bolts instead of screws is potentially a solution. We know there's a great deal of tension on a flag especially in the wind and probably no perfect solution. Another idea is you could try a website we know called FenceHangers dot com. They have some innovative products that may prove to either offer a solution or perhaps give you other ideas. Hoping this helps you get closer to a solution.

Love this idea! But, our house is a rental so we can't drill any holes and we don't have railing or any poles we could put around the post. The only post we have that won't block the flag, as we have lots a bushes in the front, is a post next to the garage door. I can take a double check but I don't think there are any small holes there so we can do the brackets, either one of them. Would you have any ideas for us so we can have a secure flag in that area?

Without having a solid post of some sort onto which to hang the flag and the fact it is a rental, I'm sorry but haven't come up with a idea that would work. Perhaps our readers might have suggestions.

The U.S. flag is not to be dipped. If you stall the holder like that, the flag will be dipping. NO, SIR! But, you did an excellent job with your demonstration!

Dave, you can display the flag at an angle. When projecting horizontally or at an angle from a windowsill or front of a building, the union should be at the peak of the staff, unless the flag is at half-staff. You are correct the US flag is not to be dipped when adjacent to other flags of lesser importance which are dipped when the national anthem is played.

This is all great but I'm afraid that when I make those clamps tight enough to hold it steady that it will make marks in the wood. Does anyone know if they make a small band like the type used in shipping? If you're familiar with the bands I speak of I'm sure you'll know what I'm talking about.

You could try using strapping bands.
