Now, this is country music, not the 'country/pop/rap' stuff that's being produced today.

Kitty Wells originally answered this with It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels. She was featured, though, at the end of the cover by Dolly, Loretta, and Tammy.

This song has had several variations. If I remember, Roy Acuff did a song called, "The Great Speckled Bird," which also had this melody. I wore out another of Hank's songs, "Green Light" when I was a kid. In that song, he was telling his girl friend that he was giving her the green light, and she was free to go. He also played the most beautiful-sounding electric guitar, and I think that's where my love of guitar music started.

Hank Thompson has so many great songs and Merle Travis played with his band in the early days. His "A Six Pack To Go," "Green Light" and "On Tap, In The Can Or In The Bottle" should be next on your list.

It was a really big hit. Then someone wrote the answer and Kitty Wells became a star with it. Hank did a lot of songs with child story themes. Humpty Dumpty Heart, The Blackboard of My Heart. Squaws Along The Yukon is a nice totally politically incorrect song from 1958. Whoa Sailor is a funny interaction with a sailor and a girl in a bar. Sad songs The Mark of a Heel, Just An Old Flame. I was listening to him since I was 8 years old. His voice just flows along. Thank you for this.

I met him on 2 different occasions. Once in Tucson then 6 months later I was in Tulsa getting new tires put on my car & he walked in to get tires put on his travel trailer. Very very nice guy. He had a big H on the front of his cowboy hat. He remembered me also as soon as he walked in the door.

@Joe Skinner That is tremendous that he remembered you. Now if he would’ve been mindful to give you his hat, I’m sure you could find a way to add a middle name beginning with that letter. :-)

@@RockN2Country I know. Hes actually a really nice guy. It freaked me out that he even remembered my name. I will tell you that the best country singer I met was Freddie Hart. Easy Loving & Bless Your Heart were his 2 big songs. Listen to some of his music & you'll see what I mean. During the break he sat @ my table drinking coffee. One guy I didn't like was Faron Young, he was a smartass. Anyway good hearing from you.
