From a foreign traveler's view, it's great to see that Vietnam has finally got their first metro line. Although it took a long time to get here, they took a huge step towards the sustainable future. Last year I was kinda surprised to know that hanoi had no subway lines back when I was on a few days trip in vietnam. But now they have it hopefully bringing the city to the next level. I can't wait to get a ride on it in the near future.

The delay was unfortunate but at least it’s operational now. They should learn a lesson from this. Every extra day it takes it’s a loss for both the contractor and the users. Apparently it was ready to use three years ago.

I just Hope the Communist Vietnam will NOT betray Democratic Capitalism like China is doing now. China used Capitalism for about 35 years and succeeded, and then declared that Communism is the Best economic method to Prosperity 😂😹 Now China is taking back private companies and making them State-owned again like in the 60s and 70s 😂😹

Not proud of the current system, but proud that at least Vietnam is moving in the right direction and this is a concrete step forward that you should be proud about. Of course, humility is good but so is recognising good work. You should not judge this project too harshly, since at least it's finished compared to the other similar line that Japan or whoever is STILL building and takes years longer and costs billions more.

if the construction firm can build almost 99% the same infrastructure in other places in 5-6 yrs, but cannot do it in one country. My best guess is due to poor coordination from the authority and even worst if they abuse their power for graft money.

@lefttomboy3068 3 жыл бұрын
The possible problem for all the delay is because of poor planning and corruption. The land hasnt yet been moved out but they already start the construction. And the other reason is corruption which is more complicated due to weak jurisdiction. Most corruption cases are cheating on projects auction or money being withheld in for getting interest on exchange. Moreover there is lack of credibility rating system among the constructors make it even harder to control the inventory price. You can concluded systematic corruption make every thing so hard to control.
@ex0duzz
@ex0duzz 3 жыл бұрын
Some have issues like cannot buy out the land needed for the track, like land acquisition problems which even Vietnam had, and some others might require China to train domestic workers and then use them to build it. That's on top of the usual funding clearance or budgeting problems, other admin issues like not issuing required certificates in time, or even just domestic political issues like opposition party has blocked or delayed it for their own political issues which has nothing to do with China.. Of course if China needs to train noobies who speak a different language, it will not only take longer but also cost much more. But like I said above, delays and cost overruns can be for many many legitimate reasons, not just corruption.

The total length of the China-Laos high-speed railway is 1022 km, with poor geological conditions and complex topography. Bridges and tunnels alone account for 87%, but it took only 5 years to complete and open to traffic. The construction of Vietnam's urban light rail is small and the distance is very short, but it took 10 years to complete its opening to traffic. This is not a question of construction but a question of people, a question of cooperation. I have read some articles about Vietnam's urban light rail. I can say that this is the first time China has built a light rail for Vietnam, and it should be the last time. Back then, China finally abandoned Vietnam's north-south high-speed rail, and Vietnam finally chose Japan's Shinkansen as an example.

Seems like people forget the point of public transport. Its meant to be affordable. To move people around, Yeah you can install luxury seats, but the maintenance would be costly and time consuming. This would than be added to ticket prices and make it unaffordable to people who need public transport the most. Also this project is no where as bad in budget as the japanese one. The japanese one went from $800 Million to $2 Billion and it still hasn't completed construction on a single line nor trial and test the trains. and they both started at the same time. Finally The Chinese line was completed 3 years ago, but delayed by local politics, a dumb reason to deprive the people of a much needed service.

@@29brendus , do you know that it will take 30 years to build the Viet Nam HSR from Hanoi to HCM city, if you are above 50 years old, you can forget about this Japan build HSR, they will start work in 2023 and maybe complete by 2053. And cost much more, is that a Great decision? Happy waiting until the year 2053.
