1:00 This scanner they're using is an incredible piece of kit, its a JJN Digital EDD-24. It can detect any semiconductor, so even a single diode or transistor, let alone a whole IC/chip crammed with transistor junctions, and it can sense them even when they're completely unpowered. It costs about the same as a small car but there's no practical way to get an electronic device past it. Good to see they're taking electronic security seriously, I've seen other events where they're half-heartedly using handheld metal detectors, for all the good those would do (none).

I have no opinion on who might be cheating but let's forget that and ask ourselves how one might cheat in Super GM events nowadays? I would implant a microcomputer in my scalp, and then grow my hair longer or bushy. The comp would be turned off during electronic searches so - obviously no electronic signal to pick up. Bear in mind that a microcomputer can be as small as a cubic millimeter ...so. Now, what about input and output during a game? First of all - I would not need to know the moves - just a short vibration - similar to an evaluation bar. The greater the evaluation from the last move the stronger the vibration. So - for example, as a Super GM - if I know that my opponent's last move was a blunder, I know that now is the time to carefully check the board until I find the blunder or find the move that the comp saw to justify the large evaluation spike. BUT ... how would the computer know the position on my board? By piggybacking off of the DGT frequency that the nearest smartboard to me is generating to transmit the display of the game to the audience. And the nearest board to me is - obviously my board so ... there you go. That's how I would do it if I were a Super GM and wanted to cheat. : )

Magnus will likely beat Hans so I'm not too hyped for the match, just waiting for the results. But if Hans manages to win, he has to beat either Hikaru or Alireza, both of them will also very likely beat Hans. But I don't see Hans beating Magnus in the first place.
