What started out as a beautiful morning turned bad in an instant when I witnessed a bad accident right it front of me. Then the guy tried to leave the scene. The Good news is I was able to deliver some fine lumber to the park and got some work done on the landscaping at the new building

GREAT JOB MIKE! Not surprising Mike was willing to help as needed and safely but persistently followed the subject until law enforcement arrived. Mr. Morgan chose the RIGHT THING TO DO!!!! He also had a video of the behavior of the subject who was operating the vehicle. That will help in prosecution, should that be something that is still done in PA. Keep it up Morgan family!!!

The root system on those birch trees make a lot of people cut them down just to get rid of the roots so they can mow. Beautiful white wood with brown streaks or flecks. Love the smell while sanding in the shop. I have mostly yellow “river” birch. Birch is a medium hard hardwood. Easy to cut on the mill. Easy to work in the shop. Baltic birch plywood is made of birch. All of the plies are birch. I love Baltic birch. Birch was going up in price about 15 yrs back. The hardwood suppliers were selling beech instead because it was cheap and stains out similar. Birch is great cabinet making wood because it match birch plywood of course.

Thank goodness you were not in that crash. People are crazy nowadays. We had a similar issue with a young man on our private property. He had multiple calls on him through out the town. He ended up on our property and crashed into our power supply pole killing our power and destroying his girlfriends vehicle. Police had him down in front yard at gun point. His 3 yr old son crying in front seat with no child car seat or seat belt being used. He was arrested for property destruction and endangerment to the public. We never found out why this person was acting crazy. Our driveway gate was open, middle of the day on a Sunday. Unreal! Thanks for your videos - awesome content on your property, shop, equipment, family. So good. Brings a breath of fresh air to my day to watch your videos. Hello Mike and Outdoors with the Morgans (found you via Concrete with the Hauses! I know you got Tom going with his channel! 👍) You are NOT kidding when you say things can change in a minute! While driving my husband out of the parking lot after having eye surgery (he's in the passenger seat with his right eye patched) when, while making a legal left turn, we were (my husband's side!) crashed into two times by a car which then took off! My husband yells "follow them!" which I did for a few blocks into a driveway (I believe they switched drivers -- one apparently was an illegal) A bit of shenanigans with insurance and getting car repaired but all was okay than God! It could have been much worse but you are so right about things changing so rapidly! Happy to be a new subscriber!

Once they got the cuffs on they wrapped him in a blanket and took him away. He was out three days later. No insurance. No one to sue. They were just out a car since they only had liability on it. The stone yard has a great set up for storeage of stone and dirt. As much as you work with this material at the homestead, you might consider a like setup. You tend to move your stone and dirt multiple times. This would come in handy instead of moving, dumping, moving again etc. And you might be able to store up enough material to cut down on the trips or having so many loads delivered. Just a thought.

Watching this video with the pallet forks reminds me, I'll have a new attachment to learn here within the next couple weeks...finally had to call Messick's and order pallet forks from them since my dealer almost 2 months later is still playing we have no idea when we will get any game...yet it seems every other company out there can get pallet forks and other implements pretty easily. I went with the Titan compact tractor pallet forks, I think they weigh maybe 40 pounds more than the pallet forks built for the BX, but for what I will be doing with them I'll never notice the weight difference. The hardest thing for me learning is how far that loader bucket really sticks out there in front of the tractor. Then trying to make sure the bucket is level when going into a pile of debris....I should have got the bucket level indicator rod I guess because once that bucket is down below the hood of the tractor I really can't see if its level or not. Pallet forks I'm guessing will be even worse trying to get the hang of without that level rod...guess I should get one ordered....from Messick's of course, can't get my dealer to get anything right.

That park looks like a very nice place to bring your family and friends to and nice to see It's being maintained especially when municipalities don't always have a bunch of money to spend toward these kind of projects. Good time to get the ground ready for grass that's what I'm about to do I'm getting ready to aerate my front yard especially before the leaves fall it won't be long. Mike, could I suggest that you could plant wheat on your weak spot beside the shop? If so, sow it really thick and it's about that time of year up there. Here in North Alabama I have to wait 2 or 3 more weeks. Next spring I let mine get pretty tall then disc or till the wheat in. It will help build up the soil. Then plant your grass seed or lay sod. Good video! I'm glad you were not in the wreck. Hey, if you have already planted grass seed you can just sow wheat seed on top of the ground and it should come right up. Then mulch up the wheat next spring.

Watching you get a couple of scoops of Top Soil in your trailer reminded me of myself. In 2007 I purchased a 2007 GMC Sierra 2500 and had a lumber rack put on the back. While doing some yard work I had an idea of putting in some raised gardens and thought I would use my new truck to go get the dirt. The yard where I picked up the dirt had a little shop in the front that sold tools so I parked the truck where the loader could easily get to the bed. After walking around the store for a few minutes a young man came in and said he had an accident with my truck. When I walked out I was furious. He hadn't hit the truck but had lowered the bucket of the loader down on the lumber rack and drove the thing right into the bed of the truck destroying it. He said he was sorry and he thought he would be OK he had loaded a pickup once before. I remember asking him not to hit my new truck and to dump the dirt slowly just in case their was a problem. Never did I think he would set the bucket down on the lumber rack so hard he would drive it into both sides of the bed. It never fails if you buy something nice it doesn't take long before someone scratches it or like my first truck at 18 totals it (an older brother). I learned my lesson about loaning tools and vehicles to family. The Chevy C10 I purchased at 18, cost me $8000 and was used with 125 miles on it. I owned it for just 2 years.

I'm glad you were not involved in the accident. A few days ago I remembered when you got the red oak from the park. I was going to ask whatever happened to it. It is good to see that it will be used in the park project.

Glad you were there and able to lend a hand. Birch's tight grain and hardness makes it great for cutting and charcuterie boards. I have. Never turned it but it would probably turn well.

When I saw those planks on the pallet I thought, "Gee I wonder if these are for the Zilly Park job?" Glad that they are moving on it. Let's hope the law does not fail us with that character that caused that collision, I hope he is not (will not be) a repeat offender. That just burns my cookies! Great video Mike, thumbs up.

Having one's cookies burnt is a bad thing. My dad used to complain about "frosted brinnies." I never did figure out what brinnies are but I have my suspicions.

Mike, before retiring I worked for a towing and recovery outfit located in Milesburg Pa. Mostly our work was out on I-80 involving large tractor trailers, sometimes it involved regular cars and pickups. You would be surprised at how many impaired drivers that we have on our roadways every day. It's actually kind of scary, I always drive very defensively. It would have been good for Eva to see what you saw just as a lesson as to what can happen. Like you I have no time for people like this.

Being a longtime woodworker I’ve used Birch on furniture and cabinets. Birch is similar to Maple being a closed grain appearing hardwood. Both Birch and Maple can be a challenge to plain due to the irregular structure.

Mike, you did a great job at the accident scene. The sad thing is, that guy will be back behind the wheel before that birch log is sawn. People who are willing to drive impaired are willing to drive with suspended licenses, too. Other people's safety isn't a concern. We need stronger laws and stiffer punishments.

I think you’ll like that white birch, although the limb on that top end may limit the length of good boards. While birch is very common around my areas of Ontario, and many other parts of Canada for that matter. It’s nice wood for woodworking and also has a good heat value as firewood - about the same as cherry.

Here in Bavaria, we only use birch as firewood since i can think of. It smells fantastic, has a good heat value and works great when you have an open fireplace, because it doesn´t shoot sparks. I hope my english isn´t too bad, and you understand what i mean.

Glad you made it home safe. Where I grew up, there was birch everywhere. It was used mostly for making veneer and top sheets for (very) expensive plywood. If the birch in your area is anything like that, it will be a gorgeous light color and lovely tight grain. Think about what you want to do with it. It could be something special.

Glad you are safe: 40 years in EMS and it still amazes me how quickly it all can change! RE: Birch it is in between the hard maples and the soft maples in "hardness", it can have a little more unpredictable grain but by the same token it is widely used for plywood veneers. A lot of "maple plywood" is really birch.
