AMBER!!! I'm also a woman your age who has an absurd infatuation and love for Janis. I discovered her on my own when I was 6 years old and she's had me wrapped around her finger ever since. You MUST listen to "I Need A Man To Love." This song was released on the album "Cheap Thrills" that was released by Big Brother & The Holding Company, the band that Janis was singing vocals for before kickstarting her solo career. This song is a MUST for any Janis fan! I don't know what it is about it, but I promise you, Girl, you will LOVE IT!

Listen to Janis with Full Tilt Boogie, Her last band. "Get it While You Can" Janis's voice becomes an instrument, more than a "vocal." She IS a saxophone, her voice is an instrument, like never before. It (she) is amazing!. "Get it, want it, hold it. Get it, Get it, hold it, want it, Get it while you can!" She is just amazing! Nobody can compare.

Had a lot of great songs such as "Piece Of My Heart", "Cry Baby", "Down On Me", "Maybe", "Little Girl Blue", "Ball & Chain", "Summertime", "Try (Just A Little Bit Harder)", "Get It While You Can", "Bye, Bye Baby", "Move Over" & her original song "Mercedes Benz". He was her main saxophone player for her live concerts (and he did a bit of background vocals) . He died about two years ago. RIP another time.

"Work Me Lord" is similar to this in that it is slow and bluesy, but also showcases her incredible vocal ability. There is so much pleading in this song that you can feel the need. "Maybe" , everytime she sang it, sounded like a prayer, a plea, and the cry of her soul. As much as you loved this song I know you'll love "Work Me Lord " - hope you'll react to it."Maybe" and "Work Me Lord" are my favorite Janis songs. So much vulnerability and pain, so much passion and pleading. So relatable.

Janis Joplin. Legend? Nope. Incredible? Nope. Unbelievable? Nope. I don't think there are ANY words to describe the unique gift that she gave the world. Tragically gone WAY too soon. Thankfully, NEVER forgotten. And left behind a one-of-a-kind body of work to enjoy. Then i saw her. What a surprise . Her songs were in juke boxes all over town, people singing to her music. Her death was a shock to all. I’ve loved JJ ever since I heard (and bought) Cheap Thrills as a 15yo in ‘68. For whatever reason I’ve not been listening to a lot of her songs in recent years but watching you guys react to her music has reinvigorated my love of her songs. It’s like a second coming! I’m also diving deep into her catalogue again. Thanks!! G’day from Tasmania.

When my mother was sixteen she hitchhiked up to Monterey Pop(and of course to Woodstock too). It was her introduction to Janis and the start of her obsession with her(& Jimi Hendrix) soul/blues music. I was very fortunate to have a mother that loved all different types of music so my childhood was a parade of different musicians. My mother was a single parent until I was 8 years old so she took me everywhere she went. So I was lucky enough to exposed to many artists that a lot of my contemporaries didn’t know about. Mom always said I was more of a “hippie” than even she was and she hitchhiked all across the U.S. as a teenager chasing her favorite bands/singers. R.I.P. Maw I really miss you

In high school, I listened to her record over and over and over again in the basement (evenings.) It's the soulful wail. Heartfelt.

I'm sure someone must have already answered this but that was Snooky Flowers singing backup to Janis. He came along with the kozmic blues band and adored her. The guy on guitar with the real long hair is Sam Andrew, he was in her original band Big Brother and the Holding Company and Janis took him along when she formed this new band. I spent a whole night with him and all the guys from Big Brother at a small table at a venue and we talked and chatted all night. It's a Memory I'll never forget. He even wrote me afterwards which was fantastic. I'm like Amber, I always tear up a little when Janis is singing even though she brings such Joy. I clearly remember the day she died and it's still sad and painful and tragic after all these years. Janis didn't put on a "performance," she felt every song.

Years ago, and I can't remember where I heard or read it, but Janis sang in public the first time when she crashed the stage at a concert & started singing with the band that was playing. People loved her. No formal training. Just belted it out. The first album I got was from my brother. Beatles 65 The first album I bought was Pearl.

I have to say I know the song & heard it many times because I've been a Janis freak since the middle 1960's when she first starting singing, but I've never saw this performance. OMG I was blown away and had chills. Thanks for making this a First Time for me video and I thought I saw them all.

Among so many great songs by this great artist, this is my favorite. So glad I lived during this timeless era of music but also sad so many of them perished. Their music lives on as does their legacy and that should help our thoughts of them.

Drank beer with her in 1967 (I was 17 at the time) Me and my friends were running her light show in Sal Lake city, they were practicing and we got a private concert and then we were asked to come and join her in a booth.
