Putting the quarter there is just to mark where the ball position is. The rule is usually that the person furthest away from the hole takes the next shot so if your ball is in the way of theirs, it needs to be moved out the way so they mark it with something flat

Here's a cool story that just happened in 2023. A kid on the bird app with the legal name Happy Gilmore just announced that he is going to play golf at Ball State. 24:46 The quarter was being used to mark his ball on the green. When one person’s ball is in another person’s way, it CAN be the tournament’s rule that an object may be used to mark the ball’s position, while the other player putts. A quarter is flatter than a golf ball, so it’s less likely to provide interference (but real pros would use a traditional ball marker).

Worth noting that Bob Barker was a keen martial artist for most of his life - and used to get Karate lessons from Chuck Norris. Dallas Stars baby!!! And this is the Sandman’s best film imo. Hilarious, heartfelt and an absolute classic. Happy is actually a sweet person with a crazy temper lmao. Such a great film! Leaving the quarter there marks the ball for the other opponent. It’s funny because he picks it up so now the guy doesn’t know where to place his ball. They do that so the ball is not in the way for the other person to actually make a putt. The funniest thing about this movie is that golf is a very tame sport that’s what makes Happys antics so hilarious.
