@@Frutticattygirl yeah, and I'm just a simple American so usually when I hear people broadly go "I don't really like British humor" I'm always thinking uhhhh okay? Like Monty Python? Black Adder? It's just funny in so many ways but also the exceptional example of set-up and payoff in a simple gag or the greater (good) plot. It will never get old.

Favorite Hot Fuzz memory. Took two of my younger son's on a business trip, that evening they binged on hot wings and then we got ice cream at the hotel. In the room we searched for a movie to watch and Hot Fuzz had just been released and they loved Shaun of the Dead, so we put Hot Fuzz on. Hilarity ensued and I have a great memory of my two boys loaded on wings and sugar totally enjoying themselves. We still watch this movie every 3-4 months nearly 15 years later.

The Three Flavors Cornetto trilogy truly allowed Simon Pegg to flex his acting chops. In Shaun of the Dead, he plays a burn out satisfied by mediocrity. In Hot Fuzz, he plays a hyper competent cop who doesn’t know how to cut loose and just be human. In World’s End, he plays a man who can’t let go of his past glory days and grow up, even if it kills him.
@corneliussnow34913 жыл бұрын
I would the team get back together in one last hurrah, thats a crossover between the trilogy. I mean, with the growing trend of one actor playing two or more characters (I.E twins/clones) or paul rudd's new mini series "living with myself" it can be done. But wright/pegg/frost should up the anti by playing each of there 3 respective characters in an epic crossover over event! Just imagine the trailer! Opens on pegg's face being interviewed, "state your name for the record" pegg, shy and nervous "uhm. My name's shaun, grocery store manager" you hear the question again as it cuts to another pegg face "gary. They call me the king!" Relaxed and slightly amused. Then on a split screen they both ask "who are you again?" Camera pans over to the person interviewing them I am sargant Nicholas Angel. And we have a job to do" BOOSH! And of course frost plays each of his characters with a cameo of zombie frost. 😂

Hot Fuzz is incredibly filled with great comedy and dialogue, perfect writing, awesome characters... my favourite tiny detail is Danny having the plastic rain protector on his silly cowboy hat from the fair while Nicholas has his protector on the regular police hat. If you think about it, THIS is how subverting expectations should be done... Angel is thinking in a grand scheme of property development and people killing others to get rich, when the real purpose of the murders is is totally different in both ways. One guy is killed because of his huge mansion, another is killed because he shoplifted, but the reasoning is the same, they made the town look bad in different ways so they had to go. Stellar writing.

It can't be stated the effect the car hitting the tree has on an American like myself. In an American film, the car hits the tree and explodes with a flame burst that would engulf an aircraft carrier.[See; Michael Bay] Yet in this film, the car hits the tree, the appropriate damage is done, and the sound effect is spot on accurate. That, in amd of itself is just brilliant hilarity.

It's either a live feed, or/and it's stored data, kept elsewhere, so although you can, most movie person doesn't go and get the data/erase/destroy the storage unit... @@harrymcmahon6876 It's not the only way to be a city in the 21st century of course. But unlike Lisburn, which was only made a city in 2002, Wells has been a city since the late medieval period, when city status was specifically due to the presence of a diocesan cathedral (at least in England).

I’m from the West Midlands and I know it’s rich coming from someone who lives there since we’re known for thick accents. But I could not tell what the farmer was saying just like Angel. But I have a mate who comes from Plymouth way and he said he didn’t need a translator for the Farmer. He understood every word which makes me find that scene even more amusing.

The gun used by the Woman who calls Angel a Fascist is actually a British Weapon called the Lanchester SMG, Built by Sterling and based on the German MP28. Used by the Royal Navy and RAF. looked a lot like the STEN and became the basis of the Post War British Sterling SMG.

The reason the dialogue between the two cops comes off as romantic is because originally the part of Danny was written to be a woman, and when they changed it to a male they saw the hilarity in the dialogue and left it

Hot Fuzz is my all-time favorite film. Having watched this move for well over a decade at LEAST once a year, I can tell you with near certainty there is only a single joke that doesn't get used twice (introduction, pay off). And it's the first joke of the movie. "Improved skill base with courses in advanced driving and... advanced cycling!" And Simon Pegg is never once on a bicycle in the rest of the film. I imagine that they had a scene where he uses the lady's bike near the end of the movie (the one that Danny hits with the car door) and does some kind of "catch-up" or chase, but as indulgent and extended as the final act is, I'm sure it was either cut from the film or cut from the entire production to streamline the ending for a joke that no one was prepared to remember (being the first of the movie, after all).
@michaelharvey11972 жыл бұрын
I think that the bike joke was enough done once . Any more than that & it would be too tired
@DapperDanLovesYou2 жыл бұрын
@@michaelharvey1197 Oh, I'm not saying it should have been done again. But I find it fascinating that there's a "call and response" to just about every gag. Even when Nicholas Angel talks about having a little cop car as a kid, they have a photo of it in his locker when he is moving stations earlier in the film.

In a way Nicholas Angel is an example of a well written "Mary Sue" character that can exist in a story successfully because of his obvious flaw that the film focuses on. He's brilliant at everything, absolute super cop but he cannot switch off and Danny is the character that humanises this machine
@Luuuna3 жыл бұрын
But he's not a Mary Sue - he's very talented for sure, but he also has well defined flaws that get explored rather than brushed aside, namely his inability to switch off and that he struggles to relate to others
@jaylex6663 жыл бұрын
@@Luuuna that's what I felt made the movie, that they didn't focus on super cop being just super cop. There was a serious side to the film and in the hands of good writers they managed to focus on those negatives and turn the story into something interesting. In say Kathleen Kennedy's hands Angel would be above reproach all the time and be smarter than everyone around him with no pay off. And in this film he kind of already is but the writers didn't make it all about him there was a support network around him and the payoff was uniting the police force and they were all better off as a result.

Hot Fuzz is a modern day, Arthur Conan Doyle mystery. It is very much like A Study in Scarlett. The writer gives you all the information you need to figure out whats going on within the first couple chapters and rewards you for paying attention by subverting you expectations the way a good writer should. Not only were you right in figuring out what is going on but you are also wrong because it is also exactly what you thought but also so and and so on. I appreciate this movie A HELL OF A LOT more after reading something like A Study in Scarlett.

Dalton is the most underated Bond ever. Living Daylights is a tight and effective movie and I love Licence To Kill. Dalton was offered a 3rd movie but after long delays caused by legal disputes between studios Dalton then turned it down suggesting that he was too old. He also turned down an earlier chance to be Bond explaining that he felt he wasn't old enough at that time.

Brian: She's drowning. Tim: Yeah. Brian: Is that the point of the game? Tim: Depends what mood you're in really. Brian: What sort of mood are you in then? Tim: Well, I got a letter from my ex-girlfriend this morning, 3 months too late, explaining why she dumped me. It was full of 'you'll always be special' and 'I'll always love you' platitudes designed to make me feel better whilst simultaneously appeasing her deep seated sense of guilt for dumping me, running off with a slimy little city boy called Duane and destroying my faith in everything which is good and pure. Every line or scene in the beginning gets a callback by the end. "You want us to go through the whole phone book, starting with Aaron A. Aaronson?" Later, "What's your name son? Aaron A. Aaronson!"

I know I'm a year late and no one will read this, but one of the guys from Monty Python has my favorite explanation about the difference between English humor and American humor. He talks about a scene in animal house where John Belushi runs past some guy who's playing guitar, he picks up the guitar and smashes it. He goes on to say that the American comedian wishes they could be John Belushi in that scene, the English comedian wishes to be the guy who gets his guitar smashed.
