FYI, there is nothing wrong with this parrot except that he's a caique. Caiques are the slapstick comedians of the parrot family. I almost wish I could get one, but I already have a difficult species that can become aggressive if I don't watch what I'm doing.

They seem to do the 'rub head against things' often, maybe he just got a little too enthusiastic with it and ended up on his head.

Yes they are clowns. Hilarius birds. But they also eat your furniture, clothes, curtains and they need constant attention just like 3 year old. Still love my little one 💞
@dr.altoclef92556 жыл бұрын
From what I've read caique parrots do this. The assumption is that this is how they clean themselves off in the wild...they rub up against wet leaves and such to get all clean. I'm guessing Pedro here got a little too enthusiastic about it? Also I've heard that parrots like attention, so of course if this new thing he's discovered gets him tons of praise and reaction from people he's gonna keep doing it because his owners make all sorts of fun excited noises when he does it.
@maulbrooks56995 жыл бұрын
they drag themselves along the ground in wet grass to clean off. This head standing and rubbing the head is to spread the wax from the base of the feathers through the feathers for water proofing. Australian parrots are more flexible and can do it by beak, but caiques tend to use thier claws and rub their heads

I make all sorts of fun, excited noises when he does it, too. Most sorts, anyway. Or some. Some sorts. Okay, a couple sorts. Anyway, I'm thinking of trying it myself. What could go wrong? At worst, I'd probably just get dizzy and clean the dust bunnies out of the corners of my house.

either a medical issue, or he is simply trained to do that by the laughing. animals tend to repeat things if they are rewarded for it. maybe he knows that laughing is a positive thing so he does that alot.
@maulbrooks56995 жыл бұрын
Nope. Caiques are just like this, they dont need any positive reinforcement to do it. They are highly intelligent and can be trained, but they do all these things in the wild - like dragging themselves on their stomach along the ground by their beak, or hopping, or kind of dancing with one leg out and then the other, rolling themselves up in leaves or cloth, and spending a vast amount of time on their backs or upside down. This rubbing the head and standing on the head is just a crazy way of spreading the wax from the follicles through the feathers. Just unique little birds

Oh no! I just read the comments. Is there anything wrong with him? If not, he's hysterical!
@dr.altoclef92556 жыл бұрын
No, apparently Caique parrots just...do that. I've read that it's how they clean their feathers in the wild, they rub against leaves and trees to get their feathers wet or something? I'm guessing he got a little too enthusiastic about it?

Is it possible that the parrot saw family members that do exercises such as: standing on the head and the parrot imitates you ? 😃 Otherwise from where the parrot learnt that? Efrat. Israel

If this action is a new development or recent (not a taught trick), I'm concerned that he might have nerve damage. This behavior is abnormal and a common symptom of nerve damage.
