Boat:
White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built.
The camera gear:
Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached.
Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera.
Editing:
Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff!
There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access.
Content:
I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining.
Comments and being at sea:
I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.

What a project! Congratulations on finishing it! Would you mind if I made a small suggestion? You probably drilled your holes the correct, easiest way, but in case you don’t know this information, it could really help with your next drilling project, You probably already know this information, I couldn’t tell from your video. First know I was an Instructor at Boeing Commercial Airplane company, and one of the classes I taught was how to drill through tough metals, like steel, titanium, and stainless steel. Use lots of pressure, lubricate it with a cutting oil, (if you can find it or any kind of oil will help, even cooking oil if you have nothing else), and chase the chip. BoeLube works best, and is commercially available. They sell several different kinds, I like the pink one best. Chasing the chip means getting that drill motor slow enough to produce the right kind of chips. If you are only getting little more than small particles when you drill, then you either have a dull drill bit, or you are running the drill motor too fast. If you run the drill motor too fast, you are heating the metal up and making the metal even harder and even more difficult to drill. Most people just want to run the motor fast thinking: this will get the job done faster. Not true. If you can’t dial the drill motor speed down to get the right kind of chips, you will need to “throttle it”. Throttling it means using the trigger in such a way you can get the slow speed you need. Not easy, but with practice, I know you can do it. From my experience I have found high speed drill bits work best, despite what some experts say. I also found speeds less than 100 rpm work best. In regards to dull drill bits, sometimes, even if they are brand new, they come dull right out of the package. Remember if in doubt, throw it out. Personally I just sharpen mine. Hope this helps you at least a little “bit.”

Tip; when drilling metal, some oil on the drill bit makes life easier. If you can keep a drip feed on it while drilling soo much the better, it will help stop the bit from sticking and acts as suds to lube and cool, like used on a lathe or milling machine.

Good job and well done, the young ones don't realize just how hard a project like this is for us older folk with all the bending and stooping. Congrats on the windlass. As someone's already noted, make sure the battery's really well boxed/strapped in place, when you're in head seas the movement that close to the bow will be massive. Also a suggestion based on our experience: Could you easily turn and refit the windlass relay/control box the other way up, so that its terminals/connections are on the underside rather than the top? MR's was originally fitted that way up, no doubt because it's easier to install the electrical connections, but we found the terminals corroded and water worked its way into the unit due to the condensation and splashes from the returning chain getting onto the unit and pooling around the connections, rather than dripping away from them; if you can't (actually, even if you can!) be sure to lather those terminals with lots of red electrical grease before you close the door on it.

Hi, Barry! I hope, you didn´t waste the broken drill bits! If you just sharpen them, you can use them again! The shorter, the more stable they are! A little oil at the tip helps too! And the holes should have a good bevel, for not cutting the insulation of the wires! Fair winds!

If you keep the Sikaflex or other sealers in the refrigerator it will remain usable for upwards of 18 months. You can freeze it if you like, but before you use it you'll have to let it thaw. You may also need to push a screw driver to break the seal. Saves you a lots of murlah and you'll almost always have some of this handy sealing compound for emergencies.

Barry, you might know that this lead acid batteries release gases, specially when they are halfway their lifetime , so where you put it is not ideal. You need to find a ventilation there otherwise the gases will go inside your cabin. They are noticeable Other option is to replace it with lithium.

Congratulations. I recently rebuilt a Maxwell Freedom 800 on my sons Beneteau 321. The top cover on the gearbox was broken and had been when he purchased the boat. The Freedom series are no longer made, but Maxwell still use the same style of gearbox. I can see it on your windlass. Top cover is slightly different (through holes rather than threaded) but usable.
