It's Heidi day!! Hello Heidi and Bonny ... I didn't realize today would be a dinner date with a heron - looked like it caught a tasty snack. Michelle did a stunning job on Bonny's picture. Amazing work of art. I live close to the American River in Northern California USA .. I have done a float tube trip down sections of the river and I love the scenery and the sound of the water moving over the rocks along the edges. I forgot to make a bucket list comment last week so I will add 1 here. I have pretty much done all the things I really wanted to do, I have seen all the oceans that touch the United States, I have seen live performances from Red Skelton and Loretta Lynn and Ron Gallagher and met Danny Thomas and a bunch of other things. What I want now is to see both of my grandchildren graduate from high school ... one does this May and the other will in 7 years so I am working like crazy to stay strong and healthy so I can pull that one off. Stay safe and enjoy every single moment of your life as best you can. You will have buckets full of wonderful memories when the time comes (if ever) to slow down and reflect. Enjoy your videos very much. I am retired and live in South Carolina. Originally, I was from Canada, and my mother was a late war bride emigrating to Canada from Liverpool in 1953. Your accent reminds me very much of my late mother. My Grandfather worked for Camel Lairds in Liverpool for his working career. I can still recall going to Gladstone Dock for a tour as a child. I can recall walking down to the Leeds-Liverpool Canal from my Grand Parents' home in Crosby/Waterloo. Playing with other children along the tow path. You asked the question of us what waterway do you like, I would have to say Trent Severn Waterway It is like a canal system here in Canada in Ontario, goes all the way from the Capitol Ottawa down to the south. When I had my summer trailer on Rice lake I used it a bit to camp out. I live near my favourite waterway, the longest river in Australia, the Murray River. At one time it was the inland highway for this part of southern Australia, during the latter 1800's and very early 1900's. Paddle steamers used to ply their trade all along it carrying cargo of wool and other things. But the expansion of rail and roads ended that era. There are actual locks on the river, though not as many as on your canal system. The full length of the river can't be navigated in one go as there are a couple of big dams that were built in the early part of the 20th century. It's a fascinating river to watch over the years, from the reduced trickle it was from the drought in the early 2000's, to the absolute force and power when it's been in full flood. It's always changing over time. Your rivers look so serene in comparison. Love your vlogs, and always look forward to seeing them. Blessings from the land Down Under! Dan

Wow, thank goodness the storms have wafted on by and there is Spring on the way at last. Bonnie and Finn were such a joy to watch and Bonnie’s portrait is fabulous, I will look forward to seeing it in a frame and up in the Rum Wench. I love the Kennet & Avon river and canal for the scenery which is so beautiful but I don’t think the facilities for boaters are that good, and they definitely need more water points and rubbish/toilet facilities on both! But every river and canal in the UK are all beautiful for very different reasons. I also love the Thames river as I was born near it in London and then moved to Wiltshire and began walking, cycling & boating the C&A canal and river, which was wonderful fun for me and my children. The only one down here in Wiltshire Heidi is the Kennet & Avon by which my cousin used to have a canal side cottage (and hard by Crofton Pumping Station) she rented from the Waterways Board for years after her hubby died. Used to love visiting her and a walk by the canal and then back for a cuppa and homemade scones or fruit cake with her two cats. Another good spot which west by some 12 miles from Crofton is the Barge Inn at Honey Street - its just the width of the tow path away from the canal, you couldn't get nearer if you tried! Favorite waterway - Banks Lake in Eastern side of Washington State near Grand Coulee dam. We take our Travel Trailer (caravan) there every summer and float on the lake. The temperature there can get to 100F. We love it!

Heidi, I am always so impressed with your boating skills, you just make it look so easy. Pulling that tricky twist around the corner into the lock with The Rum Wench was a sweet thing to watch, and I'm sure she appreciated not being bunged up against the wall. So, the waterways thing... I'm in Athens Ohio, USA, and there's a river about thirty miles north east of here with thirteen locks on it between Zanesville, Ohio (named after author Zane Grey's ancestor Ebenezer) and Marietta, Ohio (purportedly named after Marie Antoinette), where it empties into the muscular Ohio river. The Muskingum River, which meanders through some lovely countryside and past some historic towns (historic for America, that is); incidentally at one point not too long ago the Muskingum had the dubious distinction of being the fourth most polluted river in the country, with the Ohio taking the number one spot.... it's a very pretty river and doesn't seem at all polluted, but I suppose it's best to not eat the fish out of it, and stop swimming and get back in your boat when your skin begins to sting... Anyway. I'm a calm water canoe guy, with a homebrewed, cobbled up rowing rig set up on my 16' canoe, and I have canoed from the Ohio up through the first lock on the Muskingum, the Devola locks, but my bucket list trip is to load up on victuals and beer, and float the fifty or so miles from Zanesville down to Marietta over the course of a few days, using my cell phone as a drag anchor.... it's quite possible it would end up being the American counterpart to Sam Llewellen's "The Worst Journey In The Midlands', but hey, nothing ventured nothing gained. I just realized that I'm a virgin youtube commenter, it's surprising that I managed to last this long.... Thank you for your absolutely wonderful show.

Our favourite waterway is the Ashby Canal. It has special meaning for us as it was where we spent our honeymoon on a wonderful hire boat on a wet and windy August week, but we will remember it forever. In fact, Hood River in the Columbia Gorge, is called the Windsurfing capital of the world, or at least a Pacific Northwest. I am actually privileged to call it home. Michelle is so very talented. Some years ago we were blessed to travel from Australia to Amsterdam and do a river cruise to Budapest. The history and amazing landscapes are something I will never forget. But I also just love to kayak remote rivers in Australia.

My favorite river is the Arkansas that passes through our little town on its way through several U.S. states on its way to the mighty Mississippi. The headwaters of the river are less than 50 miles from here in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. No canals here for narrowboats, just white water rafting and kayaks for surfing the rapids. Beautiful portrait of Bonny by Michelle and great to see Nicki and Finley. BTW, did you give Nicki back her mop?

My favorite waterway is the Russian River. My Dad bought a cabin in Guerneville CA USA when he was 20. I’m 68 and the cabin is my older sibling! Still have it but what makes it special are the memories of going down to the River to sit on the beach or take a canoe ride. Kayaks are the popular boat now. We have redwood trees at the Russian River and Armstrong Woods is a state preserve protecting these ancient gorgeous and very tall trees. Sailing down the River in any vessel is gorgeous because of these trees. Guerneville has always been for those living a free spirit lifestyle. We have gone through Hippies and Bikers and now LGBT and some Millennials, since it’s only 70 miles from San Francisco, but always has been a place for artists. I love your vlogs because you are so fun and awesome and show so much beauty! ❤

Jack passed last October and we miss him so terribly. Jill is 16 y/o and I'm afraid not long for this world. She grieved for Jack months after he was gone. Most locks here in the USA are huge like that and have full time "lock keepers" to toss you a line and then secure your line. The canals in UK/Wales/Scotland have always been so attractive to me since on your canal locks, mostly, one can handle the locks or swing bridges any time and much more easily. Ha! We call canoes and kayaks "speed bumps". Ok, not so much. 🙂 That was when I had a twin-engine 40-foot boat. Here in the USA, I owned two different boats for a total of about 28 years. My very favorite trip of all was up into Canada to Princess Louisa Inlet along with a few friends on their boats ... NO cell service, just gorgeously stunning. Even tho it was at ocean-water sea-level, it felt like you were climbing up into the mountains on your boat. Miles and miles back in through the waterways. Michelle's art is stunning! Thank you. Is it in any way appropriate to say that my favourite waterway in the River Yarra (main river through my home town Melbourne.... A boring drain in the scheme of things, but has excellent facilities, a railway station, many bars and eateries, a massive container port, and in the headwaters, a significant number of wineries..... What's not to love about all that....... Love your work Heidi, keep it up...

The best river trip that I have experienced was a trip up the Hudson River aboard a Coast Guard icebreaker in December from Bayonne, New Jersey to Albany, New York and back again. It was a marvelous experience. That is a beautiful picture of Bonnie, thanks for sharing. Be well and stay safe. 😊

Don't you have some lovely friends? Michelle's painting of Bonny is unbelievable, so accurate, precise down every hair. I was sad to see such a short clip of Nicky's dog and Bonny playing, it was a wonderful sight. Perhaps, Finn is the key to Bonny actually getting to like big dogs, now that she has found what fun there is to be had. Your trip on the Weaver was a real adventure too, a canal boat is not the best choice on choppy waters, but you braved the waves, well done - John xx

I love the Weaver too. We moved from Merseyside a few years ago, and I couldn't believe how friendly every one is here, so helpful and kind. Northwich is a cracking little town, it has everything you need.
