I don’t think the sold out issue is caused by customers. I suspect the local ISPs came up with a plan to hoard and stock up the kits using Harare addresses. Now that it’s “Sold Out” they can make huge profits and retain the monopoly. Now we’re back to square one. Those who didn’t buy at first (myself included) are going to suffer. 😢

The problem with local network providers is that they are affected by loadshedding. Most areas Internet is very slow when there's no electricity. Whereas for starlink users as long as you have solar power you are covered

I'm using Starlink Standard Kit with Solar, it's working well. Or solar is not 24/7, it's more like a 13/7. So even before we started using Starlink it was like 14/7 so it's Power draw is not really affect our system that much. Ok average it's drawing between 35w-50w of power which is not bad definitely my desktop computer is drawing more power with it's graphics card.

Starlink to the rescue! The other providers have no choice but to step their game up. I’d never subscribe to a service simply because it’s Zim owned. What makes financial sense and provides a better service is what matters.

Starlink is designed for isolated and rural areas where fiber is not available. Zim is one of the only places in the world where the local fiber suppliers have inflated the price so much that Starlink is not only cheaper, but faster too 😂 I'm not usually a conspiracy guy, but it's not out of the question that ZOL would buy up 1000s of kits, saturate Starlink a and protect their monopoly. Would probably only cost them 50k per month to have a noticeable impact

I'm sorry that's how business works. Players like Econet got too comfortable selling sub standard packages at inflated prices. Having a major international company in the will hopefully make them evaluate their goals. The competition in this case should work in the consumer's favour as normal market forces come to play.

It's a terrible indictment of our ISP's that it got it got to this point. They had better shape up otherwise there will be another mass exodus soon. Pending approval, Starlink will be able to operate some Gen 2.5 and 3.0 satelites (once Starship goes into full service) a bit lower for better latency. Gigabit Starlink may no longer be theoretical in a few years.

Fun fact a particular greedy ISP in Zim starting throttling a once 100 megabyte a second sim while people were buying Starlink. It's like out ISP's are allergic to making customers happy.

No it doesn't work. You require roaming which costs $100 per month. Starlink fixed only works within 5km radius of registered address

Please do your research better. Most of the major African capitals are actually at Starlink capacity Kigali,Rwanda Nairobi, Kenya, Lusaka, Zambia Lagos, Abuja, Nigeria Maputo, Mozambique This is an African problem. We have poor internet connectivity, overpriced too. However counties well invested like SA, Botswana, Namibia will not experience those capacity issues. Also we are nothing compared to Nigeria in net user population. Lagos netizens alone can take the entire SADC 😂😂😂

@@maMoyo-am obviously all that is a function of how many satelites they allocated to an area, they ofcourse allocated a certain number based on how much usage they expected and Harare simply surpassed that expectation

They obviously count how many kits they sold to that area and decide if they can service all those kits with a reliable bandwidth, even if no one is using the kit, the area will be marked as at capacity, because the satelites they allocated to that area are not enough for the kits that have been bought in that area

Nobody's asking this: HOW/WHY/Is Starlink sort of actually running out of sim-cards? What was Econet even scared of after-all if the competitor can not scale up for the whole market? Only a very few handful of people (not everybody in harare) bought starlink, now they can't sell anymore in Harare... On the other hand Econet can serve the whole of Zimbabwe single-handedly, unlimitedly (sic). For me, Masiiwa remains a GOAT at his game, always beats the challenge - just wait you see.

First of all Starlink doesn't use sim cards. Secondly, Starlink is meant for remote areas but the fact that the local operators like Econet are shit a service that's meant for off grid living is now getting maxed out in a Capital city just shows you the failure of these local players. If they were Goated as you say we in the Capital we wouldn't have maxed out Starlink.

Brother there are a few things you need to understand. When they say it's sold out it means the capacity at the moment is full but the more they launch other satellites up there more room will be created for more users meanwhile econet will still sell you whatever even if they don't have capacity. At times during the day you can't call someone next to you. Starlink doesn't sell sim cards.ecobet has one satellite up there while starlink has thousands.econet was a ripoff. I use starlink now it's 200% way better that econet in every aspect affordability and quality. However I'm very grateful 🙏 for econet they helped us a lot especially considering the challenges they faced with our government
