Harbor Freight 7 ton electric log splitter 97113 , Modified for one handed operation.
I modified the 7 ton electric log splitter for one handed operation. It's much more convenient to use this way. I actually like this little log splitter. It's quiet compared to a gas powered splitter and I can use it indoors without having to breath in exhaust fumes. It's surprisingly powerful for such a small and light unit.

Yep this is better than the foot pedal mod I was looking for when I found this. Thanks for sharing I agree with what are the engineers thinking. Mostly thinking law suit if some dummy hurts or kills themselves so they have to capitulate and make things almost un-useable because of the modern education standards.

It a good splitter. Had mine for fifteen years. Only had to change the Starter capacitor,, As the 1st one shorted out. I put a wood Is clamp on the electric switch to hold it down constant. That gave me my one hand operation on the lever

I removed the button switch from mine and put an on/off toggle switch in its place. That way I can plug the unit in, flip the switch (like a light switch) and it is on until I flip it back off.

I just did the same thing. Make sure you get a heavy duty toggle switch

I was thinking about the. For the last 15 years I used a wood vice clamp to keep it on.

I like how you are in between the camera and the product so we get a great view of you butt and then shoulder. I like how your voice is projected away from the mike rather than towards it. And I like how you try and talk while the motor and hurt pump are screaming. Other than the production values a good idea.

Very clever re-engineering of the off/on switch. Report is that you may get hit in the face by wood using this; so wear a face covering protection.

Had 1 for 10 years never got hit in the face. It will shoot wood out across the yard. Don't let the children play around it!

YA MAN I CAMMED MY LOG SPLITTER

Moving the button and your cam idea is good. But your arm is always in the way as you showed how it worked. I decided on an easier mod on my unit...I use a bar clamp on the button so it is permanently on, then have all my wood to split ready and just plug the unit in. Do my splitting and the unplug....been using this way for 3 years and no problems..easy pleasy! The two speed works well...fast to take up lack space, then lever full down until the split starts, then back to fast speed to push the ram to finish...that's how I use the duel speed set up!

That doesn't work on the majority of machines. You need to release the power button for the hydraulic ram to return to zero.
@twoweary
@twoweary 5 жыл бұрын
@@dominangel23 I put a block of wood in the back to keep the ram from coming all the way back.

I don't want to be any where around my powersmart. The Log explodes SO i got a rope and a stick wedge the stick between the button where i pull down on the rope and tie to the stick and handle at the same time, With a rope looped to a flat piece of wood for a peddle

I have a 5 ton splitter and I like your button modification but I have two questions....what switch did you use and where did you get it?

Deepsouthdiggers I used the original switch from the splitter. I just moved it.

Marcel LeMay ok thanks, the switch on mine is recessed so I was looking for an aftermarket switch. Thanks again.

Deepsouthdiggers My switch was also recessed. Take a good look at your switch. If it's like mine, the bezel screws out around the switch making it like mine.

Just use a wood vice clamp to hold the button down. It will stay running tell you take the clamp off!

George Chambers . I can do that! Which part of the design would you like me to focus on?
@georgechambers3197

Well, I'd like to see the mechanical design. How the x y and z work. How you've connected the ways to the belting and motors. I have most of the parts gathered to build a cnc plasma and I have 3 other cnc machines. I have a 3D printer a desktop mill and a cnc router. So cnc is not a problem nor is the electronics it's just getting a design that is reasonably priced and not overly complicated. Your design looks like it could fill the bill. More info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

George Chambers If you're not already subscribed, go ahead and do that and click the bell icon. When I make the video, you'll get notified. I have some free time this week, I'll see if I can go thru it. Also check the description in the video, I believe I left a link in there to the build log on the hobby machinist forums. You can take a look at that in the mean time.

What kind of wood can it split
@marcellemay7721
@marcellemay7721 6 жыл бұрын
Trenton Any wood that a gas powered splitter will split. The only thing it won't do is split a crotch in a log, but even most gas powered splitters struggle with those.

I love how most of the videos on these things, tend to be on how to modify a unit to one hand operation. The manual states that the two-hand operation is a safety feature. Of course... I'll probably be doing the same damned thing; I've got short arms, and I really don't want my face that close to the action.

Move your camera, your arm blocked the view every time! HA HA...I fixed mine with a cheap wood clamp from HF to hold the button down all the time. Less trouble than your method.

You are standing in a very bad place, if the log splits too quickly it may fire out at the side and hit you very hard . Be careful it can be Dangerous.👍🏻🤓👍🏻
