@@DRTJon yeah I like it, I wanted to mount mine right where you have yours but I have a full panoramic sunroof there so that was kind of out of the question, so I ended up putting it at the top left corner of the windshield with the suction cup mount. my other truck in my profile picture I drilled holes everywhere for switches but this new truck I wanted clean simple no drill and the vo switch was the way to go.

Conformal coating or epoxy dipping the circuit board inside the remote should waterproof it.

Looks like a good solution but I do wonder about the durability of the wireless receiver connectors. You did a good job with what you had but they could have made that a bit more robust and easier to hook up. Also the remote control should be a bit more waterproof and rugged. You know that is going to bounce around inside the Jeep so how durable is it? I guess your can do a followup after using it for a while.
@DRTJon3 жыл бұрын
it is made to plug into their APEX and Badland winches, this is a hack so it just kinda is what it is they made it for a specific purpose and it's robust enough for that use. I wish the remote was better sealed up, but I've got a visor pouch I keep it in so it's never rolling around on the floor but it could still get dropped while in use which would not be good
@alia176 Жыл бұрын
awesome video mate, thanks for putting it together. I was wondering if I can just put a jumper between the switched and constant pins inside the module so that as soon as you plug in the module to the winch, you're good to go. Edit: I answered my own question and the answer is NO. I blew a diode on the PCB by doing this. Turns out that the Warn pinout doesn't match HF pinout so I'm not able to simply plug the HF wireless module onto the Warn solenoid pack connector. Back to the drawing board.

Just out of curiosity. The remote receiver could it not just plug right into the winch where the controller normally goes? I understand you want it to do a remote system but just asking.

It's a different plug but I did hook mine up by making jumpers and soldering to the back of the plug. I also put a switch on the winch so it couldn't be activated by mistake. This way harder than it needs to be.
@DRTJon3 жыл бұрын
You can certainly figure a way to make it work wired, but that was beyond what I wanted to get into as far as the scope of this video. The wire and wireless that come with the kit are both made to easily plug into any HF winch.

I ended up just opening mine and using gasket sealer and then gasket sealer around the outside seam and zip tied it to the winch Incase it falls off I won't lose it it already comes water resistant submerged 4 feet up to 30mins don't know why they couldn't come up with some way to lock the wireless adapter to the winch that's why I zip tied it Incase it rattles loose.

What is the wireless range of the remote?
@DRTJon3 жыл бұрын
It’s going to greatly depend on where it’s mounted and where you’re holding the remote. I’ve not had any issues from the driver seat or within at least a 40’ range line of sight from the front with how mines mounted. I’ve had a few times where I’ve had another object between remote and receiver and had it cut out but that’s totally avoidable. For example I was winching myself onto a trailer once and walked around behind while holding the IN button and it cut out when I got behind the Jeep - obviously there’s a lot of obstruction there! I haven’t done much scientific testing but that’s my first hand real world experience.

Just did a quick search on Badlands. Badland Winches are manufactured in China, mostly by Ningbo Lianda Winch Co. and Ningbo Antai Winches Technology Co. They are branded as Bandland Winches by retailer Harbor Freight Tools. Harbor Freight Tools sells an in-house brand of winches that are sourced directly from outside manufacturers. Warn are mostly made in the USA except the VR line but completely controlled by Warn as far as specs, inspections and what not. I was recently pulled out of a sticky situation by a Badlands winch so they are capable anyway.
