Throat is the distance from the blade to the back of the saw. Basically the size board you can run through it.

If you're itchin' to get a band saw and you're on a budget, this isn't a bad saw to start with. There are a lot of things this saw won't do but there's still a lot it can do.

ok now cut top section off, get some angle iron, and convert it to accept 12 -13 inch of material depth. and then buy an 80-82 inch 3 TPI blade and then your cooking with gas as you can mill your own logs then. 🙂
