I had my life saved by a hardhat when an impatient illegal on a job site decided my lockout was in his way. Cut my lock and restored power to an industrial AC unit I was maintenancing while my head was level with and between a multi horsepower 5 foot fan. The thing hit me three times, bouncing my head against the wall of the fan bay each time and absolutely carving into the helmet. Thing would have smeared my brains on the walls with ease.

@@WarpedYT It really was, it had me pretty shook. The crazy part was how fast it happened and the fact that the third hit knocked me out of the way AND marred so deep that the blade took my hard hat with it.
@WarpedYT5 жыл бұрын
I used to do a lot of industrial mechanical work, refrigeration, ventilation industrial processing stuff like that. And while I didn't usually wear a hard hat after the first year or two of working, I got into the habit of wearing just a regular hat, it's saved my face and my head so many times. mostly because while I was inspecting these machines I would get very focused on the problem at hand and diagnosing what was wrong, sometimes I will get my face a little too close to the blade or belt or moving part, and Bam it would hit or take my hat, better the hat then my face, so when you say you were shook I know exactly what you're talkin about.

@@WarpedYT Oh man, yeah, you know. I knew those motors had ~7HP+ ratings, but I just didn't have a gut level knowledge of how much force that can exert on a human. I didn't usually wear the hard hat either but I was in a petro plant so I had to be all safety'd up. I know what you mean about focusing in, I'm the same way when troubleshooting. It takes a lot of thought to run an accurate model a large complex machine in your head, and I was right in that kinda trance like focus.

I don't need them often but I do know from the couple of times I've been hit with one on it's a strange sensation to feel an impact that should hurt like hell, but doesn't. With that said, you should set up a rig to do very controlled drops and subject yourself to them and then describe what the impacts felt like as you review the slow mo. Would make for some awesome content and should be pretty safe with a controlled drop system.

@WarpedYT5 жыл бұрын
Thank you, very much appreciate it, been really tied up this year so I haven't posted many videos, I'm going to try to change that starting this month. Especially since KZbin has changed the way that they serve videos, it gives me a lot more creative freedom to bring other subjects to the channel. What they've done now is if you hit the Bell you get notified of every single video Tama if you just subscribe then you get notified of the episodes that KZbin thinks you will like..yep. but on the flip side it helps me not to worry if people are going to get upset if I don't cover a subject that they think I should or vice versa. But thanks for watching and thanks for your support it's very much appreciated
True, we all just have to get used to it, I have a lot of complaints from people that don't get notifications for videos, it took me a little while to figure out what was going on but I guess we just all have to adapt to the changes. Sometimes when something works KZbin should just leave it alone. I haven't watched TV in like 12 years but in this day and age I don't know many people watch TV, everybody watches KZbin or online platforms So I guess we gotta just deal with it. On the flip side I did see a TV program a couple weeks ago and the amount of commercials that they ran compared to the amount of programming was almost unbelievable, they had like five minutes of commercials for every five minutes of programming, it was a little annoying, that's why they recap every time they come back from commercials because so much time has passed you forgot what you were watching.

Hard hats aren't always for protection from falling objects. They can be a barrier between the flesh and hard objects, electric objects, sharp objects. I work on the telephone poles doing fiber and the main reason we wear ours in the bucket is so if we bucket up we don't hit electric wires with our bodies. The people on the ground of course wear them so if the bucket drops something.

@NeutronicalGaming5 жыл бұрын
I don't know if you've any interest in pushing this further, but from what im seeing the limiting factor for the hard hats is they have a low mass and are relying on the straps to provide a spring tension to keep positioned and to keep doing thier job, they flicked off and around the head alot, you could perhaps try a full face helmet, like a downhill cycling helmet, or a motorcycle helmet and see if they provide more consistent coverage ( less slipping! ) and if the rubber band effect of the hard hat is better than the coverage of a more full helmet perhaps with a force gauge on the neck? since you almost have one decapitated anyway. either way, nice video cheers.
