It's amazing to see how some customers react to mechanics telling them something else is wrong with their vehicle. They don't get it that the reason we tell them about problems like that is that they are a safety issue. Not just for them but anyone else they may meet on the road. I had one of our sales people bring their car in one day for an oil change and noticed with the car on the lift that the left front tire had the steel cords coming out through it. He had no idea the tire was that bad.

+Adam Moore, the people of our area do tend to help each other. I have MS, and two-plus years ago, when we 'got nailed' by that 42-inch snow, my neighbors off of PA144 (Hammersley), asked to borrow my '79 Jeep Wagoneer, "propane powered plow vehicle", to plow four other neighbors out, and in exchange, they'd lube,oil, and filter it, plus plow my driveway, and run down to the Weis in Renovo, for groceries to feed our whole mountain. Within about four hours, there were eleven neighbors in my living room and kitchen, all stuffing our faces, and enjoying my geothermal heat, and windmill with battery storage - powered TV and DishTV. We're lucky to live where we do:-D

@graymodeler5 жыл бұрын
GW S There is only about 14 pounds per square in on a hose with nylon cord that is rated at much more than that. Also the surface area of the repair is probably less than a square inch so it probably has only 3 or 4 pounds on it. I have had a rotten Chinese hose fail on me however. Lol

@@graymodeler Yeah something that short would't freak me but I did one that was about 4 inches and it started to kind of bulge after a bunch of heat and cool events. I also might have just been imagining it. But I thought maybe because the patch hose had a thinner wall, all of the pressure in the system would find that weak point and.... well, it never failed but I wrapped it anyway.

There you have it ! A temp sensor that shows up on the scanner equipment and your everyday mechanic couldn't figure out the sensor was failing. Simply amazing that a few shops couldn't determine this fault. I've always said, if it's business to be in business, your chances of full service are slim because most of the focus is on supporting the overhead expenses and when an issue comes up that requires patience and time, it's not part for the formula. This is likely why many shops won't get technical as the time to do that isn't making them enough money. Maybe those shops need to readdress how they retain a customer base and they won't have to always be looking for new ones. I'm sure there's no way this customer will return to any of those shops he went to previously and couldn't find this fairly inexpensive repair.

Nice job! Great idea with the 1" hose. I've fixed a few early '00's Chevy trucks that way (not with 1" hose though), since they have that goofy plastic deal going into the heater core. Absolutely useless setup - they should've just connected the hoses direct to the core like they have for 50 years prior. I forgot to comment on the last vid about that coolant blast! That was nuts! Was a HUGE volume of liquid caught on camera for a split second - it startled me for a second, since I was so focused on the video, HAHAHA! I've had that happen twice myself on Ford 3.0 liters - can't remember exactly where it was, but was next to the radiator or front of engine if I remember right. One time was the little coolant overflow nipple on the filler neck. There was no fixing that, except for a new radiator. That sucked. My Autel is SOOO SLOOOOW on Nissans. Was able to perform an idle relearn on a supercharged 3.3 in a Frontier once. Just takes FOREVER to get everything to boot up. It worked, though, thankfully. Used car dealership had butchered the screws to the TPS, so I had to extract them, stripped and bent, and install new ones, and set the TPS. While I was there, i cleaned the throttle body. Nice wheel bearing! I remember the first time I had ever seen a hub bearing was on my '94 K1500 - was on my way to work, and noticed extra pedal travel and lots of noise - knew something was failing, but I had to get to work! About 3 miles from there, I started hearing noise like BB's hitting the side of the truck - it was the barrel-shaped roller bearings being spit out of the bearing! I had to pull over to let the brake rotor cool down - my brand new brakes were SMOKING hot. I eventually made it to work, with the top of the front wheel cambered out at least 15 degrees!! Every co-worker I ran into said the same thing to me when they saw me, " Hey man! Your left front wheel is ready to fall off!" HAHAHA! Hitched a ride via AAA at the end of the day ... 😁

@mikechiodetti67375 жыл бұрын
My 06 V6 Nissan Frontier has a "Dummy Cap" on top of the radiator and a pressure cap on the white "Surge" Tank in back of the battery From The Factory. Nissan set it up that way, at least for the vehicles built in Oct 2005, registered as a 2006. Be careful about switching them! The small hose coming out from near the top of the radiator below the dummy cap goes to the surge tank. There's a larger hose from the surge tank to the heater AND it crosses from the passenger side to the driver's side of the engine and goes into an aluminum port at the water pump. The T'stat is in its housing where the lower radiator hose coming from the radiator is connected. This is also near the water pump. The upper rad hose from the radiator goes to a steel pipe that fits into a cast pipe with an "O" ring sealing the two. All this on the passenger side. Then the cast pipe goes around the back of the engine, an to both cylinder heads. You've replaced the only temp sensor on the engine in back of the passenger side head. Be careful of the cam sensor connector near the coolant sensor. It's a "Unique" connector! Nissan doesn't sell it, but I bought one online from Bonanza for $22.99. Hope this helps for next time.

When you do the bearing, I want to watch. I "might" have one going out. Still need to "test, not guess!" When wheels are turned left and backing up slowly, there is a slight moaning coming from that side. I'm hoping it's the brake pads, but again, "test, don't guess!" Good Video.

Mike Chiodetti...backing up, while turning left, and hearing a slight moaning, usually means that your wife was standing behind you, and you didn't look! That one is an easy fix! It's not ghetto if it works reliably. 1958 VW Beetles had a problem: their throttle cables would snap right at the carburetor. There had been a recall, but the American using the particular one my dad bought 2nd hand in November of that year, hadn't heeded it (he'd only used it to shuttle back and forth to the 1958 World Exhibition in Brussels). So late spring 1959 it stranded my mum and dad on the side of a German motorway. My dad ended up unbraiding the end of the throttle cable, knotting the strands into a little loop. He then, as my mum wore her hair in a bun at the time, threaded a bobby pin through that loop, bent the legs over the fork-like lever on the carburetor cotter pin-style and twisted them tight around the throttle cable, allowing the gas pedal to operate and my parents to continue their holiday. Afterwards they did take the car to the local VW dealer/mechanic, who concluded the fix was good enough for my dad to continue driving the car while he checked if he could still fix it for free. The importer wasn't very keen on the idea, but agreed to talk to Wolfsburg in Germany and they, in turn, were sort of wishy-washy about it... long story short, the car drove fine for another 17 years and a total of 146847km before the gearbox gave way and it was considered no longer worth fixing (also given the front floors were almost completely rotted out; we had pieces of 3-ply in there to avoid stepping through the car as we got in).

Great job Ivan:I'd have done it the similar way. I completely understand the customers budget woes, been there so I know what that's all about. I recently worked on one these Nissan Pathfinder with a V8. I didn't believe it at first thinking someone put a V8 badge on the front doors. I was mighty surprised to actually find a massive 5.6litre V8 under the hood of this thing. Ivan have you seen one with a V8? I had to rebuild the rear suspension system in order get the vehicle to pass a safety. The rear suspension was in rough shape,seems a lot of towing was part of this vehicle's life. The owner says its a bit of a gas hog which I can imagine. Have a great God blessed day and I hope to meet you,Keith and Eric O one day.

Forgot to add this. Below the "Dummy Cap" is the hose that goes to the "SurgeTank" as I said. That hose cannot be blocked by a pressure cap. I'm not 100% sure, but I remember reading somewhere that small hose helps to equalize the system pressure. Ok. With all the hoses on this engine, you'd think that hose would not be needed, but all the other hoses at the front of the engine are just that! The upper and lower rad hoses go to the engine, so that one hose allows coolant to go back to, or come from the "Surge" tank to/from the radiator. If I'm not mistaken, the pressure cap is 1 bar or 14.7--15 lbs. Your Pathfinder has the exhaust chains/tensioner whine. As I looked at mine all apart, I definitely saw an engineering nightmare/screwup! Just my $0.02 worth.

Great video, love this channel and always learn something from you. Maybe i can return the favor, Nissan is an Asian car and they require phospated organic acid technology, (POAT/HOAT) coolant. That stuff looked like generic "universal" coolant that is no good in any car except in emergency top off and due to the incompatible add packs can actually damage water pumps, heater cores, radiators and engine coolant passages with sludge, precipitates and insulating gel. TST Seminars has a presentation by Donny Seyfer on KZbin about coolants that is worth the 2+ hours of time to watch. Happy new year to you and yours.

Hope they do that bearing asap as other repairs point;ess if ditch it . Super dangerous when knocking your pads off disc as bad that one probably is :-S Plastic fittings in the coolant system is pita, can be spendy if not easy patch up like that one, such a simple thing can leave car totally unusable without awkward obtain parts if unlucky .
@ryanmurray90175 жыл бұрын
A better way to repair the broken plastic junction, is to use brass fittings. Cut all of the plastic out and replace it all. This way, you eliminate the brittle plastic.

Your coolant bottle said "Concentrate". Don't you need a 50/50 mix with water for maximum protection from freezing or boiling.

Yes, but I'm guessing that he's got mixed coolant in that jug..

If you have heat coming from the vents at idle you won't have air bubbles in the heater core. That's what I have discovered
@saxdogg695 жыл бұрын
What?
@zoneb6095 жыл бұрын
Wth, with bubbles you shouldnt have heat at idle.
