That year Xterra had a fuel level sensor service bulletin depending on the VIN, which replacement was needed for an inaccurate fuel guage. That may have been done at some point and the fuel line just did not make it on all the way. Seen this before at the Dealer even if the recall was done a year ago and customer says no other work has been done. Maybe this info will help. Super rare though.

Ivan, Just a big tip for you and any Nissan truck and cars owners from 2005 to 2016 all models with automatic transmission (Xterra, Pathfinder and Frontier with VQ40 engine or Nissan / infinity cars with the V6 on it) you need to bypass the transmission cooler from the stock radiator to a external aftermarket one. the radiator that Nissan got from the supplier came with a material defect that with time breaks internally allowing coolant lo mix with the transmission fluid and end up filling up the automatic transmission with coolant and create a catastrophic internal damage that you only find out when the transmission started slipping and then fail. There is a lot of info about it online and the bypass just cost $40 to $80 depending on the aftermarket oil cooler that you pick and the by pass just take few minutes to be done, and your automatic transmission wont fail.
@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics6 жыл бұрын
Same as the second gen 4Runners. Good thing this one has a "real" transmission with none of those silly problems ;)
@Venomenon86 жыл бұрын
This is only for 2005-2010 5AT Xterra's, this defect has been addressed in the 2011-2015 models.

What I think happened from imperial information. We know the connection was hard to mate, henceforth the dude at the factory didn’t get it connected properly. Then friction held it on for years. Then along comes the Crown man and lubes the connector profusely. Add pressure from fuel pump and “POP” off comes connector. Glad it wasn’t a Cessna taking off 800 feet off the ground. To conclude, I’m probably hallucinating!

I love ones like this - no heavy thinking required. See leak, find leak, fix leak - done! I'd probably swear much less during my day if they were all this easy. 😁 As an added bonus, you were able to get it plugged back in without dropping the tank down. 👍 Last Xterra I had here was also missing a gallon of coolant, and a couple quarts of oil. Must be a 4.0 thing, lol. A single mom owned it - she broke down on the main road near my house - lost every single lug nut on the left front!! My buddy was here finishing up the siding on the new shop, and when he left, he saw her there, then came back and got me. We looked up and down the road about 500' trying to find at least one nut, but no luck. My buddy drove slow 2 miles back down the road, and ended up finding one! I couldn't believe it. Threw that one on there, & I threw on 3 nuts from my stash that didn't quite fit right. She drove slow, and got it to my house - it spent 3 days there, since the auto parts stores kept giving her the wrong ones! Gotta love it. Since hub bearings normally come with new studs, I believe that's why she had such a hard time finding them. Anyway - got it fixed and down the road. My good deed for the day. :)

-I'm pretty sure those caps were accidentally switched at some point. No reason for the overflow to have a spring-loaded cap. That leaves the coolant with a straight shot to the overflow as soon as it starts to build pressure, which is probably why the radiator's level was low.- Could be wrong though, Nissans are kind of weird. *Correction: The caps are in the correct spots. This particular Nissan only has a spring-loaded cap on the overflow.*
@bigmac9656 жыл бұрын
That IS weird. My first thought was that the caps were switched too. My old school thinking, I guess.
@streetskatedave6 жыл бұрын

@snoopdogie1876 жыл бұрын
Looks like a recovery system that was converted to an expansion system by the factory in the simplest way possible. Most of those expansion systems use specific radiators with no caps, only hose connections. Maybe Nissan had some left over radiators they needed to use up, so they did it this way. Either way, it will work fine. Just add some coolant to it. It might be tricky to get the air out of that system without a vacuum refill system.
@leebarnes6556 жыл бұрын
Been my experience that the usual spring loaded radiator cap can often have a defective return flow check valve that isn't right even when new. That tiny spring that holds the check valve up can't be too strong nor too weak or the system is charged with too much water in the cold phase or none at all. This defeats the entire purpose of the overflow tank which is to purge vapor from the cooling system. Nissian has done that nicely here. They got rid of that tiny spring entirely, past twenty years I've had to correct every one I've come across.
@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics6 жыл бұрын
I don't think the strength of the return valve spring in the rad cap is that critical at all. If it didn't open, your hoses would pretty much collapse as the system cools lol. And can't really charge the system with "too much" water...it's a fixed volume!

+Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics Radiator and coolant reservoir caps are switched! I'll keep watching and see if you notice it too! Sorry! If you get CTS codes, first check the radiator fluid. Check oil and other fluids. It should have a CTS code with the radiator low. Fill up the radiator before doing anything. Check ALL codes to prevent future trouble. Check important sensors while you're there. That radiator cap may supposed to go on the overflow and the overflow should be on the radiator.

I wonder if that mud dauber nest was blocking the fuel tank vent line,, the pressure has to go somewhere when the pressure expands.. those nests are like superglue and mud... they like to build then in fire extinguisher nozzles and outboard motor s. ect.. I had an outboard cover that had abt 3 pounds of dirt in it from nests. it was blocking the intake air,.,.
@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics4 жыл бұрын
Nah this was the high pressure fuel hose. No idea how it worked loose on its own!
@randy1ization4 жыл бұрын
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics what im saying though, if the vent line was blocked with the mud dauber glue, when the tank expanded the pressure blew the supply line off. he may have filled the tank on a warm day, and it was too much pressure, those dauber love to build nests in holes for some reason., I would call him and tell him to knock that mud off if its still on there . the only other logical explaination would be if the line got snagged on something .,spare tire carrier swinging around?

@@randy1ization I meant the tank itself would explode at a pressure much lower than 50psi... way before a high pressure hose would blow off 😅

There was a nest on top of the fuel tank, so I'm thinking a small animal was biting into everything it could find, desperate for food, and unhooked one side of the connector allowing the other side to pop when the car and fuel pump started up. To me that's more likely than the connector holding for 13 years with one side off. This is just a hypothesis, if you wanted to test it I guess you could leave an evap hose with one side off and see if you get a check engine light in the next 13 years lol.
