Kevin, a piece of advice: mobs can't jump. If you dig a trench one block wide and one block deep, then put a one-block-high wall on the other side, mobs are blocked from crossing it from the trench side, while the player can easily jump across. Alternatively, you can dig a two-block-wide trench that's one block deep on one side and two blocks deep on the other. In real life, this kind of one-way barrier is called a Ha-Ha wall ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ha-ha ) or a salter ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salter_(trap) ). In Minecraft they make good defensive moats and animal pens, since they let mobs cross one way but not the other, while the player can come and go as they please.

Minecraft will attempt to spawn a diamond vein every chunk, but the ores can be overwritten by structures such as caves or lava pools. Kevin has a stronghold, which can also overwrite them. So, it is not true that every chunk has diamonds.
@Sandrina422 жыл бұрын
Your luck is not necessarily terrible, when mining for diamonds one just usually stripmines and doesn't clear out the entire chunk. Shorter and more strips are therefor probably better than one long strip cause you basically get to see all the chunk on that particular y-coordinate.

I’d like to think my last comment on chunk borders (F3+G) contributed somehow, so I’m gonna go for another one. Here’s some info on mob spawning behaviour so you can make a more effective mob spawner or grinder if you’re interested. Some spawn conditions: -It needs to be dark and there needs to be room (duh :P ) -The player needs to be a certain distance away -The mob cap must not have been reached yet On that last one: The game takes all available space for things to spawn and has a certain limit for how many things can spawn there. This means your mob spawner will be more effective during the day, as the surface will not be dark enough to spawn things, meaning mobs will be more concentrated underground. This also explains why there were so many mobs present when the barrier was turned on a couple episodes ago. They either couldn’t spawn outside the barrier or they would be killed outside it, leading to more mobs inside Turning a spawner into a grinder: I’m not going to spoil too much here, but I am going to tell you these things can be automated and optimized to be very efficient if you want them to be. I’d recommend using water to guide the mobs and a deep pit to damage them with fall damage, just to give you some ideas. If you can manage to tweak from how high you drop them to the point where they barely don’t die, you can farm xp this way as well. (Have to kill them yourself for that.) I trust that you, Kevin, military genius and conquerer of the one chunk, will be able to materialize a masterful mob grinder in no time at all! Or with a little practice because these things take time. And if you’re stuck at some point or if you don’t think designing one of these yourself is a fun process, there’s plenty of guides online to help you along the way. :)

as someone who has less than 50hrs experience in Minecraft because it came out when I was in college so I never played at all until the last couple of years, I have so much to learn from people in Kevin's comments lol

Make sure your wall is 2 blocks tall in case skeletons spawn, because they can shoot you over the wall you have now. Also you don't need the torches in the air, mobs can't spawn on leaf blocks

Kevin, you could add an overhang to your perimeter wall. That would keep the spiders from climbing over it!

Zombies have a 1/120 chance to drop an iron ingot when killed _directly by you._ So iron is renewable, just not particularly fast. Also, if you get iron or gold armor from spawned hostile mobs, you can smelt it down for a single nugget.

Felt aesthetically frustrated when Kevin used solid glass blocks for windows instead of glass panes but told myself it's fine because he needed the thicker glass for extra protection. Then I pulled up the wiki and learned that glass blocks break line of sight for aggro with mobs while glass panes don't, so it legitimately is extra protection.

Petition to let Kevin upgrade to the "One Island" challenge. He is literally on such a little piece of land, how much more convenient for him would it be to use the rest of it? In fact, it might just be more inconvenient for him to wander deeper into a cave where he'll get massacred by something.

Kevin, love the one chunk challenge thing but, you are on a relatively small island. I think you should allow yourself the whole island or the whole of the what 9 chunks the island takes up, and even though you are not that kind of a KZbinr just make a series out of seeing how long you can actually survive the island. Or you could try one of those 100 day challenges that other people do. Maybe you should also try to get the Irish Lads back together for the whole survival island never leave the island/chunk thing, that would be a hilarious mess. Just some thoughts.
