A couple of FYIs: 1. If you get the Porta Pros, also get the Yaxi earpads. Much more comfortable, and somehow opens up the sound more (they're a little muddy stock) 2. There is also a Porta Pro Communication model, which includes a gooseneck mic, and this mic is legitimately fantastic sounding, although it will pick up some ambient noise. And it's currently on sale for Black Friday.

I was going to mention the porta pro headset. Its my go to when I needs something wired quick. I have been wanting one for so long, super glad it finally came back!. I should really pickup a second for backup. When I had a temp pc setup I used it as my maininterface for work and play, can be driven by any half decent USB-C headset adapter. And yes the mic is LEGIT better than whats on most gaming headsets out there.

@@Simsonlover222I would argue that the Pro4/X has better tuning. The DT990s are more technical for sure. But if he’s a mobile DJ, I would say that the more balanced sound from the Pro4/X is preferable. Koss is the most underrated audio brand imo. Their sound signature well refined and despite their price, they do keep up with hifi audio. They're a diamond in the rough for us audiophiles.
@michaelcorcoran8768
@michaelcorcoran8768 Ай бұрын
I don't even know if we can say they're underrated amongst audiophiles or if they have a regal status. But yes certainly as a consumer facing product for normies they are wildly underappreciated. Between the KSC-75 the Porta pro and the KP-30HI I mean all three of those are legendary. I guess there's a sequel to the latter. I don't know if they're quite as revered but I think it they have much better build quality at least which was probably the biggest weakness of these products. But that's reflected in the price and the sounds is just ridiculously good.

They sound great, and are extremely comfortable. They are a perfect option for one ear on, one ear off gaming with friends sessions. I just let the game come through my speakers and send the chat through the one headphone. Occasionally I like giving my ears a rest and the KSC75 is the perfect headphone for me to do that.

I recommend trying attenuators and impedance adapters. It increases the signal/noise ratio, and you use a greater dynamic range of the DAC by being able to increase the digital volume. On the other hand, the volume knob has more travel for the same reason. An important point is that you can change the tone or hardness, increasing bass and attenuating treble, the more ohms the more attenuation. For very sensitive IEMs or those with very low impedance (8, 16, 32 Ohm) you can use one with 400 - 600 ohms without problems, if it attenuates too much for your taste, then use one with 75 to 150 or 300, there are ones with less ohms but you hardly notice the change. Don't buy the expensive ones unless you have money to spare... there are some at a reasonable price. If you can make some DIY, there are online calculators for these things like L-pad, symmetrical T-pad (balanced) or simply a series resistor. You don't have to go crazy with the cables either, the cheap ones harden over time but the expensive ones are pure audiophile jewelry. With IEMs you have to keep in mind that over time you have to replace the nozzle filters with other ones like them, you can buy them without much fuss, you just have to know which ones to buy... It's not because you're stingy, it's because the humidity ends up condensing and accumulating. The subject of ear-tips for IEMs is another world, you don't have to go crazy either, some are made of latex, liquid silicone, or spiral type (it has some fins to make more force). Merry Christmas!

They're not worth buying if you live outside the US due to different price and added shipping and non-availability. And the driver has issues as well, it cannot play complex music or be listened to loudly or handle low bass as well as other frequencies at the same time - it distorts into buzzing territory. And if they don't they eventually will. They are also flimsy and poorly made. They will break, the wire will split, you will have to buy new earpads after just a few months etc. Might as well just buy something else as in two years you will have bought 3 pairs.

Especially on a full tube amplifier, the Koss KPH75 really gives you an out of head experience. This is great for first-person games. Robocop Rogue City has fantastic audio design. As a kid in the 90s, I had tons of Koss headphones. I think my last set was in the early 00s. Imo the went out of fashion for 2 reasons. They were primarily sold of record/CD stores. When those declined, they didn't have a good outlet to sell at. Secondly mp3 and cell phones came with ear buds for free in the 00s. While the earbuds were usually awful, this limited the need for some cheap and light headphones from Koss. Idk if they still do, but Koss used to have proper audiophile lines too.

If you think that the KPH40's are good for gaming, I highly suggest getting the KSC75's and slapping them onto the Parts Express Headphones band; I've had a couple people say that it's nearing audiophile.

Finally headphones get recognition they deserve, they also have ksc 75 and sPorta pro models which are basicly Porta pros drivers on different chassis my favorite are ksc 75 because how easy it is to just put them in your pocket and go, the only problem ALL of the KOSS headphones is a cable it will 100% get hard break somewhere and you will have to replace it which really easy as long as you have soldering iron and a spare cable or you can even mod them add connectors like mmcx and have replacable cable

I had Koss PortaPro 25th Anniversary Edition back in the day. They sound amazing, but the mechanism is terrible. It pulled out hair constantly, hurt my ears, and broke after a year.

As a kid of the 90's, the Koss KPH40x is very reminiscent of the same headphone i used growing up. More specifically, they were the same ones that came in the 1990's chevy conversion vans with the VHS player and TV.

Was looking at the pros for a while for use in vr, you can detach the head band and use the top bit to attach it to a VR headset with something like zip ties.

Porta Pro were very popular back at the day. They can break quite easily, keep that in mind. But the fact they retained the same price over years is cool.

The KPH30is might be my favourite headphones of all time. However, they have a tendency to break at the thin part of the adjustment slide. It's nice that they're so inexpensive, but the waste of replacing them every half-year sucks. Imo, the KSC75s (Koss earclip headphone with a slightly different driver) do a WAY better job at imaging, so they're great for gaming. Koss pro tip: pick up some Yaxi pads. Yes, they even work with the KPH30is!

you wear these the wrong way in most of the shots but you acknowledged it :) when it comes to Porta Pros I had the version without the mic and the sound quality, clarity, stage and positioning was great, I think it beats most of the headphones that are 3 times more expensive. The annoying thing is that they spill and let in outside sound. Many people recable these to get even more from them. Styling is great, I had the classic black with blue and silver accents but KOSS needs to release these in an translucent shell, these would look great!!!

Bro the KOSS brand scales insanely well with expensive DACs. Almost any modern USB DAC released the past 2 years to today 75USD and up scales insanely good. I got an Auki USB DAC with this. Damn so clear. You can hear details and footsteps before you see them.

The kph30i's have a reputations for the headband snapping. There is a seller on etsy who will 3d print a custom replacement headband, but at that point it become more expensive than the porta pros.

I broke my gaming headset, so I rushed out and grabbed some cheap ($10 on sale) JVC closed cans with a built-in Mic. Thinking they would have to do until I could fix or replace the 'proper' ones. That was two years ago.

I love the KPH30i, they have crazy good sound quality for such simple and light pair of headphones. I'm not as big of a fan of Porta Pros, mostly because they are not as cheap at all, and the headset really plucks hair out of your head if you adjust them while on your head. The Koss KSC75 are also fantastic, if you want koss headphones that don't sit on your head.

Try KSC75 and even mod it with headband like KPH40. You just get incredible Gaming headphone just 20~30USD. Soundstage is wide and mid-treble focus tuning, which good for gaming, yet sound quite decent for music as well.
