The funny thing is that it actually causes the opposite effect. Because your components will overheat all of your case fans will have to ramp up their RPMs to keep them at a tolerable temperature resulting in a lot more noise lmao

I removed all the fractal fans and replaced them with Be Quiet Silent Wings 3 (2x 140mm intake + 1x 120mm exhaust). PSU is a Be Quiet Straight Power 650W, and CPU cooler is Be Quiet Dark Rock 4. i use a Fractal Define R4 (without glasspanel). i put in 6 BeQuiet Purewings2 140mm fans. intake: 1 in the bottom (in front of the PSU with a fangrill), 2 in front; exhaust: 1 in the back and 2 in the top. the exhaust-fans were also combined with a 20% RPM throttle. All fans are then connected to the integrated fan controller (2 with a Y-splitter on each of the 3 fan plugs). And this is setup to medium (7V) speed. This is very low noise, and overpressure cooling setup. It works really good, even in games. It keeps the noise profile low, and the dust out. If more cooling is needed (like in the summer) you can just flip the controller to max (12V) speed and you have your airflow. I got the case for just 25€, because it was a used one, without any fans included but still had all dampening materials in place, and all screws and accessories were still included. And still the old Define R4 makes more sense then this overpriced and fail engineered case in any regard.

Because of you Dimitri I have always used Fractal on my personal builds. The frist one I ever bought was a Define R4. The one thing that the Define case went to was a lighter, cheaper door on the front while giving you a reversible swing on the R5, that I did not like. The swing option is great, the cheapness of the door, not so much, plus it squeaks. Than goodness I don't open it very often. As for a 5.25" bay, I like them for an Icy Dock and other peripherals, so I wish reviewers would stop acting like they are just for limited use of DVD's or have no significance, they do. Other than that, I still love your content as always!
@bangyahead1
@bangyahead1 4 жыл бұрын
The first thing you do is remove the top fan and have it as an intake at the bottom, use your AIO cooling solution as an outflow at the top. It makes no sense to have air, which is warmed by the radiator, as an intake at the top. That defeats the purpose of trying to cool the CPU. All other fans should be intake and the AIO as the outflow. The only reasons I want this case are because of the optical drive bay (because I still use a blueray player) and the fact that it supports SIX HDD and up to four SSD's at the same time. I never cared about noise.

Couple of yrs ago, I bought a TT Core V31, mostly for cooling, as I had an Antec Sonata for silence/ However, there's lots of mesh on this case, so great for airflow ;) I have 2 front fans, 3 top, and 1 rear - all running at low RPMs, as well I have a Hyper 212 CPU cooler. I don't OC my sys, but Toronto has been hot the last few summers, so it was more for keeping the case cooler ;) The V31 still has optic bay and drive cages, but are placed in such a way that front air flow is possible with air able to pass over/thru the drives for cooling ;) It was only $100 Cdn approx.. I'm happy with it. Thanks for sharing, D!!

I've found that with half decent airflow and quality fans, it's very easy to have a quiet pc. I used a Sama Maxcool case (very budget oriented case), replaced the included fans for 2 Cryorig 120mm fans on front intake, 1 Cryorig 120mm fan on rear exhaust, with a Cryorig C7 cooler on a Ryzen 2200G build for my parents. It was super quiet. So quiet in fact that I could not hear it during normal operation and we could literally hear the Dish TV box 15 feet away over the PC. Don't skimp on your fans and choose cases where the airflow isnt choked and you will have a pleasant time.

I've found open cases with well designed air filters work best for both cooling and silence. I've seen a lot of open cases that actually create the turbulent noise u spoke of in this review with the top air filter. Running a meshify c now with 2x140mm corsair ML fans as intake and 1x120mm ML exhaust and 2x120mm ML on phanteks tc12dx air cooler with fans maxing around 1000rpm and idling at about 500rpm. Definitely the best setup I've ever had for sound. No obvious turbulent air noise just smooth airflow under load and completely silent under light load and idle.

You ask, what was my approach to a silent build? I started with a Fractal Define R6 Blackout non-TG which is just an awesome case all around - then installed an NZXT Kraken X72 AIO on the top for the CPU and a Kraken X42 140mm AIO for the old 1080 GPU on the rear... both exhausting... I contemplated getting Noctua fans but decided to try the three included Fractal 140mm fans - two front, one bottom all intake and run a relatively low RPM on all 7 total fans (just the stock "silent" curve profiles)... the fans are good quality... they don't have to run hard and the included rubber mounting washers cut vibration... the Define R6 is an awesome case... I can hardly hear it under my desk and thermals just aren't an issue. Now if I was also going for something pretty to sit on the desk next to me that might be different but my goals were performance and quiet over flashy design so I just went with "what would Batman do?" lot's of matt black lined with sound absorption material sitting under my desk powering my world... I love the Define R6... if you're going to spend US$200 on a case then look no further in my opinion.

If you don't have hard disks, a noise-canceling case is a complete waste of money and effort. When your only noise comes from cooling, it's always better to go for better thermals and not create any noise in the first place.

OPEN DESIGN! I'm currently rocking an old school Antec 900, but with fans running at 1300 RPM it's silent. Granted, I paid a little extra and swapped the fans with Antec's excellent TrueQuiet fans and I'm rocking a hyper 212 EVO, but even under full load, you only hear the air moving through my system, and not the fans. The minimal air nose that exists is easily drowned out by whatever game I'm playing (seriously, people stand next to my computer and cannot tell it's on.) Great video, giant steaming pile of product.

You guys really need to redo the data points for temps on the Meshify S2. As people pointed out in the P600S video, the fans was mounted really high in the front, which lead to the CPU getting 99% of the fresh cold frontal intake air. With some minor adjustment I'm pretty sure the Meshify S2 will have a pretty chilled out GPU when comparing datapoints. Minor things like that really skews the whole review. Hoping you guys will redo that.

I am currently tossing up between this Corsair case and the Define R6 for my next build. There are design aspects of each that I prefer over the other. I agree that the price for the 678C is more than it should be. I regularly use a Blu-ray drive so I need a 5.25" bay and these two cases seem to be the only two decent ones around that would be a step up from the 450D I am currently using. Other than the Fractal, what other options are there with a PSU shroud, USB-C on the front and a good sized window that still has somewhere to mount an optical drive and a door to hide it when not in use?

Yikes this case is the stuff of nightmares. I've found that the best way to build a quiet system is to get a case with good airflow and pair that with good components and good fans. Good fans can seriously make a huge difference when it comes to your systems volume. All of the fans in my system are noctua NF-P12 redux and they're amazing. They're not inaudible or anything but they have a really neutral sound that is hard to discern from ambient noise, and in my system in helps that they're in a pull configuration behind a front mounted radiator so their sound is baffled. My GPU doesn't have its fans turn on until it hits 60c and so it's completely silent when not gaming. It does all get a bit louder under load but I think it's a tall order to have a quiet and relatively cool system under load.

OK so it's overprices, uninspired etc.. Then what do you recommend for a full ATX case?

I’m still loving my 750d airflow case at home. Even tho my mom and dad don’t use my pc. Left it at home cause I was deploying so it would get used and not be just in storage but safe at home I guess. These new cases are disappointing to me.

I bought this case a while ago because I liked the look and wanted something quiet - wish I'd seen this before. The case doesn't really make that much of a difference to and is really heavy

I suspect this case may have been made for non-heavy usage and non-gamers but still, I wouldn't call it lazy. instead, it seems to be more a rush job.

My try for a Quiet PC? 5 140mm Premium Fans in a Define (2 be quiet Shadow Wings as Front Input, 1 more on the floor providing fresh air to the GPU, 2 Noiseblocker eLoop as output in the back and on Top - the best fans around but they don't like an obstructed Input flow), as well as a SSD main drive with Bulk storage provided by a WD Red buffered by another SSD using Intel RST. Also a good single Tower CPU Cooler with an 120mm Noiseblocker eLoop, all Case Fans PWM Controlled by the Motherboard with custom curves, and an oversized semipassive PSU with good efficiency rating and a large Fan. Also the case doesn't have a Window as that reduces Sound Dampening, and no PSU Bracket as that would obstruct airflow of the Fan in the bottom. And the case is below the Desk and not next to my Ears. Worst Noise offenders in order: The FREAKISH loud Blu-ray Drive (if in use), stuff not buffered by the SSD like AV Scans, and the GPU - while decent (an KFA GTX 1070 EX, 2 large mostly quiet fans) and well supplied with fresh air - can be heard slightly under load.

Seems pretty good for the price. The PSU Department and top plate seem a bit airflow obstructing but that top plate has a reason at least. But for premium and if you have the money I'd still go with something like a Fractal Define.

I need a case with a 5.25, but so few have them. This is nice, but the door swing is too limited. Also, love your "I will just "be quiet."" I want a nice upgrade from the Antex P100. Not that I dislike it, but the sound dampening is cheap in the p100 case, and I need a denser foam option.

Don't those game need a 32 bit architecture? Or maybe you're running a virtual machine
@blazetownsend8785
@blazetownsend8785 5 жыл бұрын
@@pixel_vengeur391 32bit is built into every 64bit OS. Which is why I can play old games like Total Annihilation, star craft, age of empires II, and the like. There is a reason you have two program directories, one labeled x86. The fact that they kept cmd around is because of legacy support. Otherwise they would be using powershell almost exclusively. X86 support is built into every modern domestic CPU. Because of this, they are compatible with previous architectures. As a bit of history, the Pentium 4 actually only emulated 64bit support, which is why those processors did worse than the AMD counterparts. As a side note, and an edit to this post, not all old applications work on Windows 10, but it is related to Windows 10, and not the processor.
