I don't understand, "is it worth it?". Regardless of performance uplifts, the updates are coming for you eventually. A 10% gain in performance is nothing to sneeze at, and is actually crazy that it's even "possible". AMD has been gimped, and now their processors are even better - sweet. You will have to update to the newest windows eventually, like it or not. So let's take the win.

@@DollyRanch how many people really got on the WMR train though? That said, Microsoft has given us a roughly a year to prepare for WMR deprecation, 24H2 shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that would care. I do admit that unlike major service packs from win7 and prior days, I don't see how it's really feasible to avoid 24H2 forever in order to keep WMR from dying, modern Windows update just isnt built to be able to sidestep major updates for long.

I don't understand why people are still recommending using Windows in 2024. The advice for every Windows issue should be the same: Wipe your drive and install Linux... Or buy a Macbook instead of a PC if you don't plan to ever play games.
@techd9154Күн бұрын
Not upgrading to 24H2 is such a bad take! It's fine to wait a little while for bugs to be resolved but any amount of tangible performance improvement is worth the upgrade, considering you'll eventually have to upgrade when 23H2 is EOL. Most people do not have to worry about Copilot+ features, and if you don't want Recall which at least for now is OPT IN you can still uninstall it or disable it. You also should have tested 23H2 with September patches that has the updated schedular rather than continuing to use the preview patches.
@HardwareCanucksКүн бұрын
That was the point, maybe I didn't enunciate it well enough. There's no reason to jump to it now before we know what the overall impact is....the performance is random so therefore there's a good possibility that the games you play wouldn't see any impact whatsoever and meanwhile you'll have downloaded an update that really wasn't necessary.
@techd9154Күн бұрын
@@HardwareCanucks While true, its generally safer to wait a few weeks after a major release i.e. 24H2, that point was not clear. It would have been better to show that 24H2 is not needed to get the performance improvements if you install 23H2 September patches for the few games that see an improvement. 24H2 has a lot of improvements to Settings and continued deprecation of Control Panel, depending on who you ask that a good or bad thing. While not necessary for Gamers 24H2 does have some quality-of-life improvements, ignoring Copilot/Recall.
