As fast as it was, the 1080ti is about equivalent to the 3060 with 1less GB of vram. NVIDIA being greedy due to their market share and weak competition, merely boosted the 1080ti for 1 extra generation. The 5700X3D deserves a shoutout here as well. The 5800X3D is technically better, but the performance difference is marginal, and the 5800X3D costs maybe 60% more than the 5700X3D if you can even find a 5800X3D.

The 5700X3D is likely a binned, slightly failed 5800X3D. Only reason for the better one, is score chasing or tinkering as it likely has more headroom for overclocking and other adjustments. For most users who just want value and longevity, the 5700X3D is indistinguishable in experience.

I did a 5700X3D upgrade build for someone this year who wanted to reuse a DDR4 kit from a Skylake(!) build to save some cash. Lots more flexibility in the budget when you can get it so cheap and it's close enough to the 5800X3D to be in the same league. I think the hardest part about doing an AM4 build now is, retail availability of motherboards. So even if the 5800X3D is really good, it will become more economical to build on new platforms very soon anyway.

A month later a 7800X3D was in there as the deals kept coming in. Almost every AM4 rig was sold off that way and upgraded for very very little out of pocket. 7600,7600x,7700x and three 7800X3D all replaced my good AM4 X570/5000 cpu systems because the market would still buy them up. I just waited for very very low prices on AM5 hardware to appear before making each upgrade. Like my last two new CPU's were purchased for $220 7800X3D and $150 7600 on the local market. If you go enough time between builds, the benefits of platform longevity with AMD becomes less relevant. The thing about AM5 is, anyone who built a system on a 7600 for example now has the luxury of being able to wait for the hypothetical 11800X3D in a couple more years and just drop that in the same build. So you can do that major upgrade in between for a whole lot less.

even though 5800x3d came out in 2022, its architecture is zen 3 2020, and its socket is from 2016 (8 years) and yep wow it's still doing well in 2024))

How do you not get it? On top of what everyone else has already said, you do realize the 5800x3d is keeping up with modern cpus despite being TWO generations behind right? It would be like comparing ryzen 3000 series to 7000 series, with the 3000 series having comparable performance. Do you get that?

lol well being able to see a massive overall at about 6 years into it cycle still competitive 2 generations later. And in my case I’m on an 5700x3d average 6% behind 5800x3D I’m able to play on 4k and still max out everything with a purchase price of 183$ is pretty mad! Some getting the chips for as low as 130s on aliexpress and mostly in this economy! It’s a sleeper for sure! Very good for value

i bought my mobo+cpu+ram 6 years ago. Now, same mobo, more ram (added extra 16), replaced 2600x with 5700x3D. Amazing.

Damn so proud of my little 5800X3D buddy in my PC. Still kicking hard to this day. So no need at all to upgrade in the near future (well let's wait for the 9700X3D). Thx buddy and Steve!

recently upgraded to AM5. x570 Asus ROG mobo to the x870 MSI tomahawk, and 5800x3d to the 7600x and recently playing cyberpunk on both. Boy, this newer CPU, even in the 7000 series, is outperforming the 5800x3d. I loved that chip. They both give me my 120fps I like to play at. But the 5800x3d was doing it at 71c and the 7600x is doing it at 60c. I also suspect this has a lot to do with the better RAM in the newer mobo as well, since I transfered over the same GPU (4070 Ti Super) to the new build. I undervolted both chips. I put a SLIGHT overclock on the 7600x because I wasn't happy with how little it was boosting in the game, but now it is perfect. Really impressed by these new AMD chips. I can't WAIT to get the 9800x3d, but I will be patient and try to grab it without rewarding scalpers. Again, thanks for all your work, your channel is amazing.

TLDR; Don't bother with 9700X if you have 5800X3D or better. X3D of any generation is best chip for gaming for most games, even 2 generations old. The results shown here are mostly minimal at 1080p and will be further reduced at 1440p and above. If you're at 4K DLSS/FSR3 Quality (1440 rendered) or 1440p native or higher, you're probably looking at a 5-8% increase in performance AT BEST for an $800-1000 platform upgrade investment (CPU, motherboard, RAM), and only if your GPU can actually push those frames (so 7900XT/4080 or better). Rule of thumb is 25% improvement MINIMUM to actually see ANY difference. In other words, SAVE YOUR MONEY. The PC gaming market is currently stagnant, and even 4 year old CPUs and GPUs are still very relevant. AMD, Intel, Nvidia, and even game developers have gotten even greedier than before, and are attempting to milk us for every penny they can. DO NOT LET THEM.

Has any KZbinr done a 5800X3D and 7800X3D on windows 10 vs 11 with the new update that supposedly boosts performance? We STILL have no clue if the X3D parts get the same boost as the non-X3D parts after Microsoft fixed the branch prediction thing.
