@@whisp9r365 GN Steve explains why in the first few seconds after your timestamp. I'll break it down. It has to do with Intel's boosting behavior. For the first.... 56 seconds, I think? Intel allows more power to go to the CPU. That length of time is denoted by "tau", and an application going past that amount of time of continuous usage is called "tau expiry". GN Steve took that particular power number AFTER tau expiry, as he says, so the processor wasn't boosting as aggressively. I believe he also showed the 10900K power numbers before tau expiry as well, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Anyway, HU Steve took his power number before tau expiry in this video, and GN Steve's number for 10900K power draw before tau expiry should be very close to this number. I am confused on the F1 2020 benchmark 11:21 and how these numbers compare to the results gamers nexus had. I know that there are different settings being used though I could be missing something obvious I don’t see how the 5950x could beat the 10900k in gamers nexus video at around 19:50 but it’s the other way around in this. 5:28 - Holy spit. When AMD advertised top single-core performance, I was expecting like, realistically, maybe a jump to 5-10% better than the 10900K. Y'know, a mild performance boost over the 3000 series already nipping at Intel's heels. But this? Wow. Can't wait to see the rest of the video now. EDIT: Ah, and we run again into what I'm assuming are architecture optimizations. Does better in these games, does worse in these, does about the same in these. But like... damn, the games it does better in, it does REALLY better in. Phew. From a perpetual second place gaming-wise to trading blows and even managing some knockdowns? That's ducking impressive, and nothing at all to sneeze at.

Unpopular opinion but AMD has a huge node advantage over intel, these CPUs should be destroying Intel in every game.
@Paul_Rohde4 жыл бұрын
At the same wattage they would be. Intel has configured their designs to be able to pump up the current flow for clock speeds knowing they can't progress to smaller nodes. So the two are going in different directions and in some ways aren't quite comparable as you put it, with that understanding. 3000 & 5000 are on the same node, so the 5000 gain is quite impressive. I put that down to AMD knowing that TSMC yields are rather good, so they have been able to take a risk and design their silicon more connected knowing there won't be loss-cost hit.

The zen 3 price hike is because, amd can lower it when Intel launches 11gen, this will give amd a advantage for better price to performance. Smart

There's definitely a strategy to being more expensive but best. People will have this in mind for the next year, and if the AMD parts go on sale then people will feel better about their purchase.

And I fully expect AMD to release XT versions of these CPUs with a slight clock speed increase to get them even closer to the "fabled" 5 GHz mark every1 seems to want, while also giving Intel's brand new Rocket Lake chips very little chance to reclaim the gaming performance crown. So even if RL is faster than CL it'd likely barely be enough faster to definitely retake the gaming performance crown. Only time will tell but for now AMD definitely deserves this win.

Some motherboards have a possibility to leave some cores on AUTO, while overclocking all others without syncronizing cores. So you get more performance in multicore workloads and also have 2 cores boosting over your fixed OC frequency. All I had on my x570 elite is giving different CCD-s different OC per core, The best performing 2 cores I have are on 4.45Ghz OC on my 3900x, 4- are on 4.3GHz, and worst ones are on 4.2GHz, all on 1.33V with load balancing. 8233 points score in R20, I had 8000 on 4.25GHz all core OC. I love AMD for how they let us tune the system, with every bios update tons of new settings arrive, I bet 5950x will remain the king for AM4 socket. Wonder what optimization they will use in 6950x to get that IPC improvement with DDR5 :)
