I am a Muslim and I have to say that this guru has spoken more sense than anyone I have ever listened to. The way he scholarly presented the history of Christianity and Judaism was especially interesting. I think this is what is lacking in most religious communities and this is why we get so many misinterpretations and deviations with time. It's a shame that the interviewer doesn't have the mental capacity to understand anything other than a "yes" or "no" and have a reasonable conversation. I think the real coward is the person who doesn't explain his true motives and doesn't have the humility to respectfully ask questions and accept answers from their guest. I think this guru was being kind and compassionate by forcefully trying to reason with this dude but it seemed to be like hitting a brick wall.

I would be more careful with that kind of assumptions about Muslims. The Muslims I have associated with throughout my life were very good people who were following their religion. I don't think that Christians are better than anyone else. And the point that "they don't give a shit about their own religion" can be applied to probably 80% of the young people in Europe and America who are so called Christians. Nobody cares about Christianity either and most of the people nowadays are atheists. It's true that Islam has its limitations and it's difficult to be applied nowadays but that doesn't mean that Christianity is perfect. What about all the child molestation and abuse that is going on in the Churches or what about the problem with child pornography which is coming from the western world. I don't think that if Christ was here, he will have anything to do with all this nonsense.

I generally don't waste my time commenting on KZbin videos, but this was a very irritating interview. The host was making no attempt to "get a better understanding of the Hare Krishna movement" as stated in the description, but was simply using the typical religious fundamentalist technique of trying to get a person to adhere to their ideology and then condemning them if they do not adhere to it. "Is Jesus the son of God? Yes or no!" That is not a line of questioning that leads to better understanding, it is simply an attempt to compartmentalise the interviewee. The interviewee is clearly not a Christian, he's a Hare Krishna guru, so why try and force him into an acceptance of Christian theology, as if this is the first time he's ever met a Christian? It clearly panders to the hosts perceived audience. Hence the idiotic questions and the insistence on "yes" or "no" answers, rather than engaging in a nuanced and intelligent conversation. Yes or no questions are appropriate for simple conversations, such as "Would you like a glass of water?" not complex issues like gay marriage or the nature of the self and its relationship with God. That requires a few more words. Unfortunately this host is not possessed of the necessary intelligence to discuss such issues in any depth.

Jesse treats all his guests this way. I find it amazing that a particular kind of guest goes in circles when asked a simple question and another kind of guest can answer without hesitating. This host didn't even want to listen after he asked each question. He jumped from one big question to another and demanded quick answers. He never even asked what the basic philosophy of Hare Krishna was about. This Guru had every reason to be upset. Actually the host clearly tried very hard to embarrass the guest. To prove his own belief is the only way maybe? He probably thought by asking yes or no questions and demanded an answer right away would get the answers he wanted. Real life is much more complex than answering only with "yes" and "no". Real religion has many fine nuances which the guest has tried to address. I was hoping a healthy conversation around 'Hare Krishna' and his teachings, instead Jesse kept comparing it to Christianity and Judaism. Wake up, Krishna happened more than 5000 Years ago. There is no comparison and no yardstick here. Look at the beauty of 'Hare Krishna' movement a man like HD Goswami for almost 50 years following Hare Krishna, but still following his Jewish practices. The problem is that the host, Jesse, is trying to understand H.D's perception by fitting his answers into his own context of understanding. H.D, recognizing that his answers to a narrow yes/no format could easily be misunderstood, tries to offer precurses to his answers to help broaden Jesse's (and the viewers) context of understanding so misunderstanding doesn't occur. H.D is trying to answer in a way that aims at Jesse's preconceptions but Jesse not recognizing this rejects H.D's answers and falls back on trying to understand from his own narrow context of understanding. Can't blame H.D for getting frustrated.

Jesse did his homework on Howard Resnick. Jesse is a lot smarter than you think. Resnick is going off on his own along with a few others and trying to create Krishna West....a deviation from Prabhupada's vision. I am quite certain that Jesse knew about Krishna West and the divisions it has engendered within ISKCON. Jesse is no dummy. Why does Resnick have "no position" on homosexual marriage when Srila Prabhupada spoke against it? Jesse asked the right question. If Resnick wants to create his own religion then he may do so but should not do so under the aegis of ISKCON when his positions on some subjects contradict those of his spiritual master. In fact Jesse was much less strident in hiscquestioning of Howard Resnick then many devotees of Srila Prabhupada would be. A pure devotee [and I am not suggesting that I am one] would have pinned Howard down on the discrepancy of his view with Prabhupada on homosexual marriage. Would a catholic priest contradict the Pope on a core issue of doctrine? Jesse also asked the right question when he asked why Resnick [as a Jew] is coming to another spiritual tradition [Gaudiya Vaishnavism] and seeking to change it to a modernistic ethos. Resnick [it appeared to me] fashions himself a "scholar" as he [Resnick] referred to himself as such. Srila Prabhupad was not in favor of advanced education with its speculations, intellectual flights of fancy, metaphorical understandings, relativistic moral perambulations, scholastic comparisons of religion. Rather Srila Prabhupada gave us a simple formula in Bhakti Yoga; to wit, chanting the holy name and worshipping God.

It's a shame that Mr. Peterson, the interviewer, couldn't go into this with an open mind. After opening with a brief biographical question, he immediately did exactly as HD Goswami, one of my spiritual teachers from afar, claimed and "put him on trial." The fact of the matter is that this behavior Mr. Peterson displayed of spiritual judgment is one the things Gaudiya Vaishnava and ISKCON alike are trying to prevent. The whole point is that there is no incorrect path to God. The guru himself said that he has remained a Jew even throughout his spiritual path of a Vaishnav or ISKCON devotee. Try living his lifestyle - wake up at 3 AM, sleep at 9 PM, chant the names of the Lord 2 hours a day, preach the message of love and peace, he does not take part in meat eating and animal slaughter, he does not eat food that is not offered to the Lord, he does not drink alcohol or smoke, he does not gamble, he is a celibate, and genuinely aspires to come closer to God and is in fact, sacrificed his material life in search of the spiritual truth. Let me know if you can live like this for at least 50 years before pointing fingers. Also, he follows a separate religion and follows it's scriptures. He's more Christian than most of the Christians you see today. Hard pill to swallow but you'll understand if you actually loved God. If Christianity had a complete philosophy, he wouldn't have left it. Had the religion he is now following not have complete philosophy, he would not have joined it. Like I said, it's a journey everyone goes through. I can only request you to be compassionate and encourage people to follow bonafide religions. I'd encourage you to follow your own religion perfectly, that's the greatest service you can do to Christianity and God.

This is some very low, "yes or no" interrogation type of interviewing. The interviewer gives an impression of having a closed mind, all the while repeating/interrupting the guest with "I'm trying to learn about ___ here..." Not everyone has the same point of view as you and not everything is either black or white. A lot of false duality fallacy themed questions or purely leading questions trying to steer the conversation to prove a preconception about the guest. But he is just "trying to learn here", mind you.
