I quit college at USCD in 1972 when I was 18, to join the Hare Krishna movement. Best decision ever for me personally. I appreciate Joe and David's balanced views and observations. I thought the exact same thing about Kirtananda as Joe expressed - the guy never looked right to me. Kirtananada was the son of a Baptist minister and had spent time in some type of mental hospital, before joining the Krishnas. It was somewhat known that he was gay before he joined, but since he had taken vows of celibacy, it was assumed that he had given up any sexual activities, based on spiritual strength - If that was the case, his abstinence didn't last for more than a few years. At that time in the '70s, there were no types of background checks, and anyone could join who was willing the follow the devotional principles (vegetarian diet, no sex outside of marriage, no intoxication, no gambling) and the rigorous schedule of early rising for the first meditation (4:30am) and two hours of chanting daily. It was all voluntary, and anyone was welcome to give it a shot. I personally followed the disciplines for 3 years in a temple, and it was great. It gave me a confidence and realization that God is real and lovingly present, within and without. It also gifted me with a fearlessness in living life - which worked out well, as I've gone through some crazy stuff over the years - but that's life in the material world for everyone, to various degrees. I still practice chanting happily at home. Not all kids were molested. and not all by leaders. Some were molested by the older boys at the boarding schools; something which happens unfortunately at many institutions / boarding schools. There was a fringe element that committed the crimes as discussed; that was a deviation by a few. For the most part, much good has manifested by those and for those who did not deviate from the principles as laid out by Prabhupada, the founder. The movement continues to grow, especially in India, and also in Russia - a place where people have rejected godless communism for the most part. Some Russians have embraced yogic principles and practice and travel to India regularly. The present PM of India, Modi, highly praises Prabhupada as one of India's most glorious spiritual luminaries and teachers of the Vedic tradition ever, having established 108 temples worldwide in 12 years, after having started in NY alone and almost penniless, in 1965. Even more impressive if not miraculous, during that same 12 year period, he translated and published over 70 volumes of Vedic literature, starting from his time of arrival in Americal at age 69, until his passing at 81.

@@ogaraconor The Catholic church certainly has not been exempt from it's share of corruption and scandals over many centuries. There were Popes in around the 10th century who had their critics put to death by being boiled in oil. There also may very well be pockets of the church leaders past and present, involved in ritual satanic child abuse, or/and individual garden variety pedophiles who were individually perverted and just moved from parish to parish without serious consequence. Hopefully, that happens less now. That being said, I'm sure there could be very sincere and genuine priests and and congregation members in the church who have dedicated themselves to God, within that tradition. God / Holy Spirit lives within each heart as witness, guide and friend, and knows who is who. Sincere people are always protected and guided by God. Phony people will be attracted to other charlatans to mingle with in the name of religion, but will have their actual motives and mentalities exposed over time. God is loving and gracious, as is real religion. Hate, perversion, greed, and power mongering don't represent God in any way.

I lived with people who lived there and they were initiated by kirtananda. I married and lived in the Hare Krishnas and decided to let my daughter choose to want to learn about Hare Krishnas. I protected her from everyone. Never trusted any gurus or anyone not even her own dad. In my experience the director is correct. Hare Krishna philosophy is pure but there are real scum who have taken advantage of being in this religion/cult. There are some amazing pure beautiful souls in the Hare Krishnas and you easily see who they are. They’re not the big wigs. They’re the little people. It’s always the little people who are pure and saintly. Avoid personality cults and personality gurus. But underneath this crap the philosophy is amazing and the humble pure devotees are also amazing

The same thing happened to the Hare Krishna movement that happened to the followers of Jesus Christ movement (called Christianity). No different. When the true master is alive, he/she draws the purest souls who are eager to spread the teachings and live a pure life. You could just have easily explored the Catholic Church, the Protestant churches, the Mormon church, any any OTHER spiritual movement and your title would have been "Money, Power and Death: the Dark Side of the Catholic Church/the Prosperty Church Leaders/The Mormon Church" and on and on and on and on. The CORE teachings of ISCKON are still intact. Any time you have a movement of ANY kind and the leader passes away, there are ALWAYS the power seekers WITHIN the organization who DILUTE and, thus, gradually POLLUTE the movement. I am an American who joined a Hindu-based yoga group which was founded by an Indian who came to America (ashram) and became one of the most well-known yoga masters in the world. We started out small with mostly college-educated "hippie-types" TOTALLY committed to "finding God. We chanted Sanskrit chants throughout the day no matter what we were doing. In the beginning, the guru was with us daily teaching and inspiring us to live pure lives. We lived the monastic lifestyle, and the community was structured like the yoga ashrams in ancient India were structured. We all were initiated and took Hindu names just like the Hare Krishnas did. The community grew and grew and had small satellite groups all over the U.S. and Canada. It was really clear from the jump that there were those who formed the inner circle and wielded more "power" because of their close proximity to the guru. They became the main program leaders. The leader is still alive, but the organization evolved into a yoga and HEALTH center, because a lot of people with money wanted all the health benefits of the yogic lifestyle but didn't dig the deeper spiritual aspect of our community. NOTHING founded by a truly pure soul STAYS absolutely pure, because DILUTION (that is, the intrusion of those with big egos, impurity of mind and intention, greed, etc.) eventually brings POLLUTION. Just after Master Prabupad passed away, I went to one of their centers to attend kieran (joyous devotional chanting ) with the center in my hometown. They had a life-sized statue of their master sitting on a throne as a tribute to his presence in spirit. But the center leader sat front and center and -- to ME -- was obviously enjoying being treated as if HE was Prabhupad incarnate. He was too WESTERN (Translate that into "corporate-type" white male with shaved head, naked upper body whose body language would have fit in perfectly in a New York corporate board room where HE was CEO AND COO). Our center has our guru's guru come from India to be with us for over 4 years. He looked a lot like Prabhupad and the whole adoration scenario was present in our ashram also. We sang the Hare Krishna chant too, but we had OTHER Hindu chants as part of our repertoire. He went back to India and passed away several months after leaving us. The gradual spiral downward into WORLDLINESS instead of OTHER-worldliness began, and I haven't been back in over 25 years. The magic is gone. But I got what I needed to get from the experience and my personal life is enriched because of what I had experienced. The only reason I am writing this is to make the point that what happened to the Hare Krishnas happens again and again and again and again. Christianity today bears almost NO resemblance to what the original followers of Jesus experienced when he was alive and in their midst. That's LIFE.

Radhanath swami also has been claimed to have spread the teachings of Black Tantra (black magic) to other iskcon "gurus" Investigate him, Bhakti Tirtha Swami was found to be practicing black tantra as well at New Vrindavan, he was close to Radhanath. These fake Gurus in Iskcon are Demons and Abuse children and Women and Murder men who try to stop them.. Don't get involved in Iskcon, it's a mafia organization. This is True! I've been through Christianity, the JWs, buddhism, islam sadly bit then suffism, aspects of Judaism, zoarastrianism was.. basic. And then the Vedas and it blew my mind. Experientially I found tangible truths in Vaisnavism but was sorely disappointed with the behaviour of some devotees. This is one crazy fake guru they're talking about and there were many others Cultish behaviour in how so many devotees turned Iskon into a cult based on status, influence and money/ power. The philosophy is beautiful but I saw too many of these fake gurus doing alot of illegal things AND giving interpretations of verses that they weren't qualified to and that served just them and their Agendas. Prabhupadha was the last official guru in the disciplic succession and that's how it should have always been. When I raised this, I was ignored and then ppl started actively avoiding me. I wasnt hurt but surprised how ppl could not see what I did Or see and choose to pretend It's a shame really? I think I'm a good judge of character so cannot fathom how so many continued actively in the movement. It's sad how guys join to meet 'hot girls' etc. it's just nothing to do with what the movement is all àbout. Love not lust.

What's not being mentioned here is that the Hare Krishna's were a strong movement in India before it coming to the west and of course it goes back thousands of years. There are numerous groups or temples that don't belong to the organization ISKCON which people refer to when speaking of the Hare Krishna's that's something that's missed when they talk about organizational issues. It's like when a group of churches that may be Methodist or Baptist or whatever else do horrible things and all Christian churches and communities get associated with that. I'm also not saying ISKCON as an organization is bad or good I'm just pointing out that it's one group of many that come from the same line

This guy that he is interviewing doesn’t know much at all. He might be a Director of the movie but I can guarantee you since I have been with the movement for over 50 years and I was in management for a while plus I lived in New Vrindavan West Virginia. I can give a much better more clear picture. A lot of what he said is true, but he got a few things wrong which are important. For example, he said, the spiritual master of the movement Srila Prabhupada Appointed 11 gurus, but that absolutely was not true. He only Appointed 11 men to continue each with their own territory to become ritviks Which means priest. They’re only job was to make sure things run smoothly according to the way it had been done in the past. To basically oversee, but they were not supposed to be micromanaging. They were not supposed to be taking worship and sitting on high chairs. They were not supposed to be Raking in a bunch of money from their followers. They were not supposed to take any disciples for themselves. Everything was to be done on behalf of Srila Prabhupada And his movement. All 11 of them got into cahoots with each other a very short time after Srila Prabhupada left this world. And they hatched a plan. A very devious plan convincing others in the whole movement because of their charisma and authority… That they were left to be spiritual, masters, or gurus and take their own disciples. From that day forward a tremendous amount of deviations took place, and so many other horrific things. I work directly under Kirtanananda in the 80’s. I could not put the pieces together back then, but I saw things and was perplexed. I had already become a disciple Srila Prabhupada in 1975 and was never a follower of these 11 and never agreed to what they were doing. I tried to stay there as long as I could to get to the bottom of things and help figure out what’s up and try to correct it somehow. I was not on Internet back then, so it was very difficult to figure out things as far as what was going on. Finally, I had to leave and over the next five years or so I started realizing what had gone on. I have learned a heck of a lot over the last 40 years since I removed myself from living monastery type life, and I have continued fervently with the Krishna consciousness practice personally. I have been shocked and learned many truths, and I am very clear minded about all of it. So many of us have worked very hard on a daily basis to expose, what has actually happened. We try to keep the pure essence of the teachings and the Vedic literature without deviation and help those who are innocent income for that reason. At the same time yes, we try to expose as much as possible for anybody who is willing to listen. It’s the same kind of thing going on in the world today . All over the world people have been living a lie and have been controlled by the Cabal… Corrupt governments everywhere all working together under eight dark web of criminal elite. There was actually a conspiracy in our movement and they had poisoned Srila Prabhupada. Since then, they had taken many followers, and collected a lot of money, and started their own nonprofits, and things happened that most of members did not even know about (And still don’t ) as they blindly worshiped them. And to this day it continues. Our very wonderful movement was infiltrated by a very bad element, and it is the belief of quite a few of us that one or two of them infiltrated from the CIA with the purposefull intention of destroying the movement from within. They were all convinced in one way or another to band together and be those 11 so they could profit with their positions. There are a lot of stories of abuse, and they changed the books which are ancient old literature. You can find this kind of thing happening in Christianity as well. The Bible was changed, and many of the books were hidden. The evil demoniac elite people have a goal to destroy peoples sovereignty and destroy religion and brainwash our young children all over the world through the educational system that they devise. And it goes on and on and on. I still follow Krishna consciousness independently, just like many of us who try to Reform the movement from within… That did not work. We were either kicked out or the situation became so bad we would have to leave and could not do a thing from the inside anymore. There are tons of us that really do have a story to tell. I’m afraid this person being interviewed doesn’t have a clue really who Srila Prabhupada was and what really happened. Although he did seem to know halfway some truths. I would suggest Joe Rogan to actually interview through research somebody that’s viable and can really tell the true story. I can help connect him with somebody who would be a true good source if he wants to do future interviews about this. There has been a whole committee of us and the main ones on that committee have worked hard and spent tens of thousands of dollars working with forensics. Voice forensics, and forensics regarding toxicity and poisons using hair samples, etc. We have two very well written hardback books with all the documented proof evidence chronologically what happened regarding everything. For anyone that’s really interested in the truth I would suggest give me a message and I can guide Joe Rogan further, who to talk to if he really is serious to do a show with better correct information. I also know about the Peacock film and I am friends with many of the people who have been either traumatized or kicked out or threatened, etc..

Locals referred to the guy as Swami Bhaktapad. There were always stories going around that there were bad things going on at the palace of gold. He was on house arrest in an apartment next to my school. My friend lived in one of those two apartments, I’m just not sure if he was there when the swami was. He was allowed out something like an hour a week to go get groceries. Saw him walking across the park to the store a couple times. Had friends that would go out there in the 90’s and I think some that still do. Quite a few for the festival of color. Girl I went to college with said her dad had been one of his bodyguards. Never verified it, but never had any reason to not believe her.

It is about twenty minutes outside of a metro area of 140k and it is rare it gets below freezing outside the dead of winter. I have received so many amazing things since joining. and literally every succes I've had in my life (financially, romantic, socially) has come from the scriptures that they preach. This movement saved my life and the best way to describe it is MAGIC. the relevancy that the Vedic scriptures have in today's age is uncanny.. I wrote this comment as a reply to another comment but I will share it here also: The first mention of the mantra “hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare hare krishna hare krishna krishna krishna hare hare” was in the Kalisantarana Upanishad which was written around in 500 CE and potentially was orally transmitted for many generations before then. There, Lord Brahma recommends to Narada to chant that mantra during Kali Yuga. He also said that chanting that mantra leads to the 16 Kalas being destroyed, revealing the enveloped Jiva as Para Brahman. In other words, that Upanishad claims that the mantra “hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare hare krishna hare krishna krishna krishna hare hare” is all that’s needed to attain total liberation. He also says that there are no rules associated with it. Anyone in any state, pure or impure, regardless of their past actions, moral character, etc, can simply chant those sixteen names over and over (he says 35 million times) and be liberated. This differs from the instructions given by the Hare Krishna movement regarding the mantra who start their chant with “Hare Krishna…” rather than “Hare Rama…”, prescribe moral rules, and chant the mantra within the context of Krishna Bhakti. None of these elements are present in the original text that gave rise to the “hare rama” mantra. Lord Brahma also specifically presents the mantra as Lord Narayana (Vishnu)’s name. The mantra is a name of Lord Vishnu. Repeating this name of Lord Vishnu over and over is the prescription for liberation in this age according to the Kalisantarana Upanishad. Lord Brahma describes this method as the highest method for liberation in the entire Vedas. He says there is nothing superior to it in the whole Vedas. If you take this statement seriously then you would have to regard simply chanting those sixteen names as superior to anything found in the Bhagavad Gita, the entirety of the yoga system, the Om mantra, anything found in the Puranas, anything found in the Srimad Bhagavatan, etc. According to Brahma, to can safely ignore all of that and simply chant “hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare hare krishna hare krishna krishna krishna hare hare” in any state of mind, context, with any moral character and history, and you will be performing the most superior method known to mankind for liberation. This is a rather radical claim. However, what I love about it is that it is falsifiable. He gives a specific number. He says you chant it 35 million times and you become totally and completely liberated. Therefore, we can put it to the test and see if it’s true. Being a Gaudiya Vaishnav myself, the Hare Krishna movement started in the social reform and religious movement started by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in Bengal in the late 1400s. It was a movement to combat the caste rules, untouchability and ultra ritualistic Tantric worship (using animal sacrifice) which had become a norm in the post Buddhist era and these were alienating the populace and many were converting to Islam. It was in a period when the "Bhakti" movement was gaining force all over India and worship through music was becoming prominent due to saints like Ramanujacharya, Vallabhacharya, Goswami Tulsidas in Hinduism (specifically Vaishnavism) and the poets/saints like Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti, Amir Khusrau, Rahim Khan-i-Khannan etc in the Sufi Movement in Islam which also emphasized love and compassion and worship through music.

I came to know about iskcon in bangalore around 2015. I went there every week for 1 and half months. Then, one day, I bought around 8-10 books from there and read them all within 2 days as they were short books. But when i read prabhupada's thoughts about scientists, I was shocked. He called them stupid and ignorant, all of them. So i realised it's just another cult with different flavours. If you want to check, then please read the books available at the temples for sale.

The guy that made this documentary got tons of stuff wrong. I've lived by New Vrindavan my whole life. My father worked at the machine shop there in the 80s. If you want to know the real story read the book killing for Krishna. This documentary made it all about Kieth Ham aka kirtinananda being this evil guy but the people behind the murder was more than one ! There's people still in high positions in Iskon that helped plan the murder. Radanath Swami was a major player and he's maybe the highest guy in the movement today. With that being said New Vrindavan is a great place today with great people.

Complaining is easy but consistent effort to rectify the wrong part and revive the movement on the right track like the Pure devotee Srila prabhupada has given, needs Courage,Commitment, Sadhana, Sacrifice and sincerity at the lotus feet of Spiritual Master & God. Lets become the part of the solutions not problems. Because life is full of problems. Solution is devloping Krishna Consciousness.

One clarification. Prabhupada did not appoint successors. He appointed 11 disciples to perform ritvik initiations when he fell ill in his last year or so. In the scriptures he translated it's clearly stated that the spiritual master is not chosen. One becomes a spiritual master by qualification. In other words, that person must possess the qualities of a spiritual master in mind and body.

I haven't watched the show yet but I will even though it will obviously be sensationalised etc. I studied the Hare Krishna stuff for two years with the plan to join them full time and give myself over to them when I felt I was ready but it never happened because the deeper into them I got the more horrible things I would find out. For instance Prabu never passed away but was unalived by those closest to him and he never appointed them as gurus, they did that for themselves after they had poisoned him. At that stage he had said many times (there are audio recordings to prove all of this stuff including the poisoning) that he wanted to disband the Krishnas because he did not like the direction they had gone in etc and by then all of the children were being harmed, they were bringing homeless drinkers and drug addicts into it just to make up the numbers and they were walking around carrying machine guns etc. The message and Krishna conciousness is a great thing and I don't think even now that the Krishnas themselves were a cult but ISKCON did in the end become one when it all fell apart and it was all done by the same bunch of evil maniacs who do most of the bad stuff that happens here like wars etc and so my message would be follow the scriptures and messages if you wish and you will benefit from it but always remember that god is within and a part of you and you do not need a human to give you his message etc.

Once in Estonia a hare Krishna dude came up to me and gave me a book. I was like thanks man. But then he immediately chased me down and wanted money in exchange for the book. I was like no way and handed it back. He didn't look happy but what the heck I never asked for that thing.

So this one usually happens because they are told to not give it away free because something free (which is correct in principle) is not valued but they are a confused lot and use such stupid tactics. The Gita in pure form is worth a read although not the Iskcon version. It is a great philosophical book and still relevant to this day on how to lead an appropriate life even if you were a non believer.

Hinduism also have many thoughts of school like (1) bhakti = in which you choose your medium and pray to it like water, fire, Idol worshipping, etc and pray to it to reach ultimate truth. (2)Nirisvaravada = Hindu atheism ("Argument against the existence of god"). In this people believe in good deed and follow the logic but don't believe in existence of any god. there are many thousands of year old books written about it in Hinduism (3) buddhtv = in this people work on themselves by meditating to gain enlightment in search of ultimate truth of life, and following path of non violence against any leaving creature, in this people particularly don't believe or believe in God (4) tantrik = in this people perform various type of rituals for various kind of things (5) digambari = in this thay leave every worldly Desire even clothes and eat raw vegetables, harming any leaving creature as minimum as possible to reach Mukti (6) Aghori = in this there is not much information because of their Limited contact to outside world but they pray to God of destruction Shiva and leave on destruction they do whatever they want and play with human Ashes , eat non veg, eat human flesh during cremation, thay perform black magic , and many more. etc (7) Guru = following any role model that show you the ultimate light like your mother, father, any scientist, etc. (8) Dharma = in this people follow their duty in society like doctor Dharma is to treat its patient as good as possible, Warrior Dharma is to protect the week and its country, son Dharma is to serve their old parents during their hard time etc. (Doing your work joyfully in society) 🚩These are some mainstream thought of school in Hinduism there are many many more 🚩 NOTE:- the ultimate goal is mukti in which people get free from eternal cycle of life and death. dissolving in the ultimate truth and becoming one with it and during this process they get every answer of every question that they ever have.

I am a hindu but tell me guys wat difference is there in the hare krishna movement and catholicism ? Like i dont see a difference in the way they approach spirituality. Instead of meditating on mary and jesus u meditate on krishna thats it right? Maybe the stress on salavation has only one way is not there but i dont think christ even cares abt that nor is the figure of christ that cheap to care abt ur belief in his literal death and resurrection , its all church's dogma. Leave that one part and focus on his main teachings and one will have a grt life with meaning.

First of all we can't judge or screen these human faced monsters while they are approaching to a particular religious group and secondly u must realize that Christ and Mary are the MESSENGERS of the God but KRISHNA IS THE GOD and in hindu culture we medidate to forms of the GOD for ex: tridev not the preachers, we memorize the contributions of those divine beings(preachers) or them to be straight forward and the monster that has been discussed in the podcast is not anything new in the history of religious bodies it's like say if we have basket full of apples then there will some rotten regardless of which farmer grown them from whichever farm ok? So on this basis do you think making this social issue as religious is needed?

I joined hare Krishna in the early 90s and got the answers to all my questions, both spiritual and material. The knowledge and wisdom is at the highest-rated. But just like all other organizations there are some bad apples in the basket that did some demonic acts. But i tend to gravitate towards the teaching and leave the policitics to the the leaders to sort out.....At the end of all that hare krishnas is the best and fastest way to get out of material existence into the spiritual world . Nothing will be easy-going in this age of kali. Just look at how far theyhave progressed. They have reached in places that are so remote , like Africa south america . Caribbean. Russia . Etc. They have to have to spiritual driving force to accomplish so much so fast ... this is the lord Chaitanya movement and we are all simlpe instruments used in his process....hare krishna to everyone.....
