Weezer released a great album this year (White), plus their previous one (Everything Will Be Alright in the End) is fucking amazing! This band keeps on rocking and I'm stoked for whatever Rivers has prepared for us next.

Oh man, it was hard as fuck being a Weezer fan when they released "Beverly Hills" (to this day, probably their worst single). Back when I had a girlfriend she was the biggest Weezer fan and she said Blue album and Pinkerton were classics, Green album and Maladroit were good (maybe not great, but still good), Make Believe was okay, Red album was mostly bad, and she didn't even get Raditude. She was done. Keep in mind Weezer was her FAVORITE band. I think they had released Hurley and Death To False Metal at that point, too, she was like, "I haven't even streamed either of them." Fast forward to today and I'm commenting here wondering if she's heard Everything... End or White album. I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm obsessed with my ex. Haha, JP. *looks suspicious*

DUDE! I just got their white album the other day. Holy shit, the Weezer that made blue album and Pinkerton are back, baby! I'm not kidding the first track, "California Kids", alone is better than anything on Maladroit. It plays like a better version of "Pink Triangle" or "Falling For You" that actually would have fit better on the blue album! That's just me getting started, too. There are a couple of nods to post-Maladroit Weezer but these are actually acceptable and comparable to "Pork And Beans" in quality (probably better than that), which had given me false confidence in the shit red album. I don't think Hari Kondabalu will like the album, but pretty much everybody else is blowing their stack on it.

That being said, I don’t think he can be solely credited for Weezer’s success in their first two albums. Rivers Cuomo still wrote every song in that period and chose the direction the band was gonna take in their second album, hailed as one of the greatest of all time. I think that the initial negative reaction to Pinkerton compromised Cuomo’s way of expressing himself through songs, starting to write more impersonal songs since Green and more Pandering songs since Make Believe in fear of getting shit on again by singing his heart out.

@@philatio1744 Interestingly, even apart from individual songwriting credit (as mentioned by another commenter), one could argue that Sharp led to "Pinkerton" overall, in the sense that Cuomo had been working on "Songs From the Black Hole" as the follow-up to "Blue", but because of the development and release of Sharp's "Return of the Rentals" album, which he felt was too sonically similar to "Black Hole", Cuomo scrapped that album and started work on "Pinkerton" (the leg surgery was another influence).

Weezer Red Album could have been their comeback album. It had a lot going for it, some of Rivers' best / most sincere material (relating to this vid he was actually starting to sound his age) and good production. Then they kinda reverted back to the highschool angst.

Weezer never got bad, they just started putting out albums with too many bad songs on them. Every album has it's great tracks. Maladroit is strangely overlooked even though it's a great album. Other tracks like "unspoken" are some of the greatest ones they ever recorded.

What I can't stand about the Weezer fanbase is that someone can enjoy EWBAITE or White more than Blue or Pinkerton, but merely out of pressure from other fans, they feel obliged to rank Blue and Pinkerton as the top 2 by default. Weezer could release the greatest thing that music has ever seen tomorrow, yet the highest it could ever possibly rank is 3rd.

The songwriting on Pinkerton is a lot more intimate, the guitar work has so much more bite, the production isn't as polished. Blue Album has better pop songs, catchier hooks, more crisp guitar work. I like EWBAITE a lot. It's right under Blue Album for me, but I just get a lot more out of those first two albums.

My started off with classic rock like rush Styx the Beatles the who and still my fav band of all time is led zeppelin! I have about $300 I'm memorabilia I spent with my own and also 96% of the people there were were people in there 30s-40s but anyway I'm a huge fan and I love your work hari!!!!
