You make good use for your lathe. Things that last and make the Harley nicer than before. A rewarding day in the garage! Günter/Nürnberg

The person who invented the self-drilling tap earned their pay that day. What a time saver! Those pot metal caps COULD have been cleaned up and painted...... but SOMEBODY just had to make some lathe chips, didn't they?? :) You are becoming a certifiable chip junkie, Delboy! A Spiral Savant e Speciale...And we love you for it!

Really impressed with the material you used in this and several other videos. It seems tough as nails (shows no marks from the chuck) and machines so nicely without turning into a gooey melted blob. I could watch your machine work for hours. Masterful job Del and Penny. Many thanks. Peace to you always. ❤👍👍

Thanks buddy, can't claim any credit there, it's Delrin Acetol, an engineering resin designed for the purpose, it's usually heat resistant, durable and as you can see, wonderful to machine... not far away from the same stuff that pool balls are made from. Have a great week there, and thanks for all your support, D&Px

Sooooo satisfying. It's awesome to see virtually any material being worked on the lathe, but for some bizarre reason this stuff has an almost hypnotically tactile vibe through the screen for me. I know, I know, "weirdo!" lol shrug. Another subtle but worthwhile upgrade tidbit on the bike to note, excellent.

Nice job mate. Always look forward to your videos. With regards to the lathe, have you considered making some copper soft jaws for the lathe chuck? Made some for mine and they keep the work from getting marred, they work great. Just a thought. Keep up the great work. Cheers Paul (Australia)

Hi Paul, I do have some brass ones and have seen other machinists use aluminium ones, so yes, that's a great idea, not thought of using copper though... thanks for the tip!

What a great way to ensure the workpiece is square onto the chuck. I'd never have thought of that one. Possibly because I am as thick as two short planks, which may have something to do with it. Bless you :)

Great work as always. Can I ask how well will the Plastic hold the thread? Excuse my ignorance if that's a daft question
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 Жыл бұрын
No at all mate.. it's "Delrin", an engineering resin, hard and durable, and it will certainly hold the thread, works a bit like plastic number plate screws that don't rattle loose as the plastic grips better than metal without needing to be so tight.!

Impressive work Delboy. Like your compact lathe. Was a machinist myself, you make it look simple. Nothing like a custom part that lasts and fits correctly. Usually store bought axle nut covers are bigger than the axle. 👍
@Moonfleet41

Yeah, that pair i showed at the start are 1/4" bigger than both the axle and the nut, rattle about everywhere.....and being made from pot metal, they just rot in a year...
