In the early 2000s, we bought a brand new Harley Davidson Twin Cam Fatboy. The Wife & I loved that bike. Back then our payments were $350 a month. a short time after we bought the FatBoy I got laid off from my job. We decided we had to get out from under those HD payments, so we sold the Fatboy. As a experienced Machinist, I soon found a new job and we saved our dollars and pennies until we had enough to by a used Harley Davidson FatBoy with cash. We were lucky to find a Bad Ass Fatboy owned by a Los Angles Police Officer who was asking $10,000 for a Custom 1992 Fatboy, with Harley Davidson Factory 57' Chevy Blue & Cream paint, Fat Bob tanks, PM wheels & Disk brakes and a stock Evo 80ci motor and cobra long shots pipes. After a little negotiation and whipping out an $8,000 stack of one hundred bills, the Bike was ours! 20 years later and attending the Sturgis Bike Rally for 17 years, we are still riding our 1992 FatBoy and still loving that Evo.

I have a pretty much bone stock 95 herritage softail. I bought it low mile and its as reliable as a 350 Chevy. It's my daily rider, along with a 71 FLH and I've done 700 mile days on it. Next winter its time to clean up the heads, new lifters and cam and carb. I've owned 3 Evo engined bikes and I think it's the best engine H-D has made. With mild upgrades you can have a 75-80 HP engine that you can ride coast to coast and will be reliable as hell. PS stay with the carburator, and if you buy a FI engine and it goes bad switch it back to carb. The old HD F.I. systems can be a nightmare.

Heres the latest on my 97 fatboy. I posted in here around ayear ago and have mine on my channel. The latest is, I replaced my mikuni carburetor hsr 42 mm last month. I took the oopriginal and rebuilt it and cleared the jets, it uses the 48 and 160 jets, and its saved for if I ever need it. The replacement mikuni I purchased which is new is on my channel also. The new carburetor worked out great Tires are new and recently drained the forks and refilled the fork tubes with my preference of oil. Nothing is over looked because I have more tools than your basic gas stations that do auto repairs. The starter bendix gear sometimes slips on my starter but I have a backup used starter I bought from fallen cycles on ebay. So I am completely on top of my 97 fatboy and as I said before I am keeping it for life

The Sportster is an excellent machine for all sorts of things! I've wanted one to build a street tracker like the one Mule Motorcycles built, just not a 1660cc kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5LRg6lpidF3pM0. The Carducci is a great looking machine as well and I really like how they've set it all up. They only downside for ME would be dropping the bike on that custom tank they build for it! 😂

Nice looking bike. Any tips on how to tell if a bike has been well taken care of? Aside from looking to be in good shape (looks can be deceiving).
@MOBStreet832 жыл бұрын
Thank You! Yeah, if you are looking for a bike ask them not to start it before you come see it. Listen to how well it starts, runs before it is warm. Ride it and see how it feels. Does it feel planted and solid or does it shake and wobble or feel uneasy? Check everywhere for leaks. If it is super clean that could mean they are trying to hide something. Check underneath by the oil drain plug and see if there is a little residual there or if it is spotless. Talk to the person and see if you can get an idea of what kind of person they are. Those are just a few things I do, I hope that helps!

Big difference between that and the TW. Lol. 1999 was actually a split year they made the 88 in 99 so you could get the 80 in³ Evo or the new 88. I had a fatboy 99 with the Eve O engine Those are sweet bikes. The fat boy is the The motorcycle that put Harley Davidson back on the map! Harley Davidson was getting ready to lose the franchise to the Japanese AMF. President Reagan said hell no and help subsidize harley davidson. The fat boy was one of the bombs they dropped on Japan so they named the motorcycle the fat boy and that was are way Of telling Japanese motorcycles were back in the business. I now have a street glide with A 103. I'm always torn on which bike and going to ride either the TW or the street glide.
@MOBStreet833 жыл бұрын
Valid Point! The Fat Boy story is one that is "Unofficial" according to Harley. But, that is the story I heard as well. I want the 1990 Fat Boy. That has been one of my most favorite Harleys of all time and I would love to get my hands on one, but doubt it will ever happen. I have the Harley for all the stuff the Tdub doesn't do and the Tdub for all the stuff the Harley doesn't do. They compliment each other quite well! Thanks for watching!

I own a 97 fatboy, orange and black original paint, and original engine and bars and wheels. The only thing that is not original is the drag pipes. No mufflers and no baffles. There is no harley that can be made today that would make me get rid of mine. Mine is for life time. Everything on these is fixable and remain as new even when they become 80 years old. It sounds identical to the mans fatboy in the video

@@MOBStreet83 Our fatboys look very close to identical. Center of my wheels came black and yours came with a lighter color. Mine came with short shot pipes, but I purchased some fish tail straight pipes for 99.00 for it and installed with clamps to the short shorts. I turned one fishtail sideways and the top one upright, because the pipes are too close together to run both upright. I did this because it makes the bike look like its for the more mature person as to where the short shots looked like it was some drag racing. I have a video on my channel of mine thats called 1997 fatboy prt2 that about the fourth video from the top. The beauty of these fatboys is the fact they can be dressed up to be same as the electra. The evo was the best engine for sure. I am an older mechanic and know what the good stuff is

@@MOBStreet83 I really wasn't thinking about sportsters they never cross my mind , but you're right they are ridged mounted. Dynas, early low riders and baggers are all rubber mounted etc and are rubber mounted A motors. Soft tails are ridged mounted B motors.

@@MOBStreet83 the Sportsters were solid mount until 2004 then they went to the rubber Mount frame. When Norton made the ice elastic frame for the atlas the bike lost 30 pounds in weight. When Harley rubber mounted to Sportster a gain 80 lb in weight. What's up with that?

Do you still own your Dad’s bike? Really nice bike though the only thing I’d do is order a front fender and have someone professionally match paint it… I inherited one from my brother who passed away. He had his since buying it new in 1998. The oil change on this particular engine is simple, a hose under the oil can with a single screw to drain three quarts of oil from the tank…Then swap out the oil filter… The EVO uses three quarts of 20-50w, I use full synthetic by Ensoil… My brother owned his and never parted with it even through three marriages he managed to keep it from being sold or part of a marriage agreement… His last wife said my brother wanted me to have it if he died and even wrote out a Bill of Sale and gave it to his wife before going into the hospital where he ended up having a heart attack while being administered chemotherapy and for a brain tumor and the. Stem cell therapy to revive his immune system. I’m honored to have his bike but I never thought he’d die and we talked through FaceTime on the Friday just three days before he died. He was kind of loopy and seemed ok and told me he got this and told me don’t worry and said he loved me. That’s the last thing he said to me before he died. I have a video of his bike on my channel. He did have the engine and transmission and sprockets completely modified. He worked at Harley Davidson dealers for 17 years and despite they had a policy about working on older bikes, they did all the engine work and installation of a six speed transmission with different drive sprockets to accommodate the boost of 89 horsepower the EVO engine was making. Appearance wise it looks bone stock but driving is where the bike acts way different from a stock 60 hp EVO. These bikes are easy to get a little bump up in power by just changing out the air filter and pipes then add different fuel jets to the Constant Velocity carburetor, that’s about the easiest way to get them to go faster however taking them to the extreme is Cylinder head big bore kit, hp oil filter, and of course a six speed transmission over the stock five speed because the six banger has that last highway gear that allows the engine to coast better at higher speeds…

Back in the day, around the late 90's early 2000's the comp sprocket nut would be slightly loose and cause a knock that sounded like it was coming from the top end. All you needed to do was remove it, add some thread lock compound and torque the nut again and the sound was gone. Don't know if they did that back then, but might be worth looking into.
