I've been waiting for this video. Very informative and interesting. Thanks for putting this together. I picked up my Pelagos 39 about a week ago. As you mentioned, it's an awesome all-arounder. There's just something great about a simple three-hand watch.

I enjoyed this. I like the fact you do more than just review watches. For me that’s what separates you from other KZbinrs online, in a positive way. I recently bought the Rolex explorer and I’ve found it tricky to find quality 19mm straps. 20mm is definitely the sweet spot!
@xenon9887 Жыл бұрын
A suggestion. You can use a very quick Cape Cod once over to bring shine back to your brushing. People have had good success with this method. The cape cope removes so little metal, that if you just give it a few passes it will shine up without removing the brushing.

To fix the nato strap hole issue, give crown and buckle chevron adjustable strap a try. They are by far my favorite and most comfortable strap and being adjustable in length you can dial in your hole positioning. The material is great and also allows your watch to wear thinner being a single pass, but still substantial to secure the watch
@edrader Жыл бұрын
i use only single pass nylon "nato" straps. a true "nato" has no springbar on the buckle and therefore the only way you can lose your watch is if both springbars on the watch fail. maratac used to make the best single pass strap but there is only one place that sells them and supply is dwindling (county comm). another great single pass strap is made by marathon and can be purchased on prime

It isn't that one can't just buy a 21mm Nato, It is that I like to mix and match straps and it is annoying to get straps that can only be used on one watch.

@DaKing2369 Indeed: I put on a 22 elastic marine nationale ( not the costly ones) between 20mm lugs.Fits snug & easily adjustable. Don't Tudor sell the bracelet separately..OK , probably for half the watch' s price but in 5/10/20 years time?

Watching your first video sold me on this watch. I ordered it without trying it on. It's. Just. It. I wanted a perfect black diver and this watch fits that bill. The size is perfect. I love the snowflake and classic Tudor Sub markers, which this is an update of. This is not a down speced Pelagos 500m. I love the 21mm lug width because it gives it a nicer taper vs 20mm and 22mm would be too wide for the case size.
@HarrisonElmore Жыл бұрын
I agree with all your points, but 20mm lug width would’ve been pretty convenient! Hope you enjoy!

I would also recommend using a matte polishing stone. This is what a lot of jewelers use. Long smooth strokes in a single direction. Because it has a very wide surface you can make nice consistent strokes across the entire link. It takes out all those inconsistencies you get with the fiberglass pen or the eraser.

Having had this watch for almost a year myself; I can say the P39 is amazing, truly the best representation of a modern diver in all aspects. However, as many have commented, the hands have a very noticeable difference in lume quality. This is clearly apparent at night and is disappointing compared to my BB Pro (which uses the same lume blocks). I have spoken to my AD and they will be replacing the hands soon, when I hand in for service, and hopefully this provides the fix needed to make it 100%! Also, in regard to the dullness with the FG pen; you could try a quick polish though with a Cape Cod cloth (not aggressively, which will remove the brushing effect) to bring back some brightness. This has worked well for me when I refinished part of my P39 bracelet.

If you are looking for a nato-like strap where you don’t have to worry about being in between holes check out Nick Mankey’s hook strap. They have infinite adjustability, don’t have any fabric under the watch head, and are stretchy where they are super comfortable. My only big gripe is his current lead time is ~14 weeks, although supposedly he hire some additional staff to help him reduce lead time. Otherwise you could look at Erika’s for similar benefits although for about double the price

Almost perfect timing; I put the deepest scratch, so far, on the inside of one of the end links last night, while ironically putting on some protective stickers. I've used a pen eraser before to remove some light desk diver scratches from the clasp, but I haven't gone as far as to try a fibreglass pen, which I've used on stainless steel before. I like the putty idea to hold the link in place, I'll try that next time around.
@edipisreks5535 Жыл бұрын
Red scotchbrite is the way to go for brushed refinishing. Anyway, if you don’t like titanium for scratches, wait until you get some gold watches. It was an eye opener to me when the inside of a dress shirt obviously scratched my watches. Having said that, I only buy precious metal watches now.

While I do like the look of the 39 I let my go after 6 months , not a fan of the Ti unfortunatly , I dont mind wear and tear but the Ti unlike steel looked plain bad as opposed to a nice wabi IMHO. I also found it marred up very easily compared to steel. For re-finishing I found an anodized aluminum polishing block worked perfectly and left a factory finish. I already had one from a company called monster tech based in Germany.

I got rid of my pelagos when I realized that Titaniun (especially grade 2) is not capable of having the longevity that a stainless steel watch has. I work in a machine shop, my grandfather worked in a machine shop. He wore a rolex op from 1953 until the day he died in 2006 in a shop, and it still looks beautiful and can be polished up to look brand new. My Pelagos after 3 months had chips on the bezel knurling and deep scratches that will never be buffed out. I opted for titanium because I work with titanium, but I realized quickly that it is vastly inferior to stainless steel, at least the stuff that Tutor is using.

Funny I just purchased an Artem strap last night for my BB Pro. I’m hoping this one fits better than the Tudor OEM Hybrid rubber strap. Not a fan of the strap being the opposite side with the Tudor claps. It’s a unique look, but if your wrist is around 6.5in there might be more protruding extra length in the front.

The extra gap in the fit of the strap is not recommended as a 'snug' fit can put pressure on the pins and with the extra space can pop off the watch. it would be much better to get a larger size strap.

If you care at all about the value of the watch - don't do it. You can mess it up very easily, you'd be surprised how easy it is to round some edges of the metal, change the crisp lines of the original finish. ESPECIALLY when it comes to the case. Just look at the value of unpolished, untouched 20year old ROLEX watches vs butchered and overpolished. If you really want a full refinish send it to the factory and have them do it professionally.
