There's no such thing as a quarter Jewish a person is either full Jewish or they aren't Jewish at all and a person is only Jewish by their mother unless they convert
@camg59496 ай бұрын
Ok that is the religious side of it which I believe in, but there's also the ethnic side of it. What else would you call someone who is descended from 5,000 years of Jews, practicing or not? My father is a Jew, my mother is not. I went through a conversion to become a Jew, religiously, but I am ethnically only half Jewish. What would I call my ethnic background if not Jewish?
@Artofyehuda6 ай бұрын
@camg5949 converting to Judaism makes you fully Jewish. But if your father is only Jewish Without You converting then you are not Jewish. Now if both your mother and father are Jewish what tribe you are from is based on what tribe your father is from. This is why Christians believe that Jesus was born of a virgin birth is problematic because he couldn't be from the tribe of Judah which they believe he is from. But you can ask any Rabbi and they will tell you this.
@camg59496 ай бұрын
then it's just an argument of semantics. I understand what you are saying, but what would you have people who are descended from Jews be called? White? @@Artofyehuda

It is a Jewish song for weddings and, I believe, other joyous occasions. A beautiful song that appeals to all of us. Never knew he performed it until tonight. And how marvellously he did. Gosh, this song by Harry Belafonte is a celebration of what it is to be human. This makes it even more than the beautiful song it is. It is an appeal to all of us to leave behind what we have learned separates us. To unite and rejoice, no matter who we are. This is revolution through music. This is Harry Belafonte.

While Harry Belafonte (may his memory be for blessing) definitely played a crucial role in popularizing "Hava Nagila" in the U.S. during the 1950s, this joyful song has resonated with Jewish audiences ever since its first performance in Jerusalem at a concert celebrating the end of World War I. The song became an immediate hit within Israel and was soon shared with - and embraced by - other Jewish communities around the world.

Separate the misguided marxist/communist beliefs from the artist. These beliefs can be understood in the context of black Americans during segregation, and in later life from the comfort of freedom (not suffering the consequences). The Soviet Union/Russia and China happily supported the misguided and actually oppressed to destabilize the West.
